Swedish national foreword

This document recommends that 50 % of the surface in the rooms where people stay more than temporarily should have an internal illuminance of at least 300 lux during 50 % of the time when daylight is present and that the remaining surface should also have a certain illuminance. This corresponds to a target daylight factor (DT). However, due to Sweden's geographical location, higher target daylight factors are needed to achieve the same amount of daylight as in countries in southern Europe.

It is scientifically proven that daylight affects human well-being and health. However, it is not scientifically proven exactly how much daylight a person needs. Therefore, this document only indicates the values for the subjective experience of good daylight. People in northern countries, who have less access to daylight during the darker parts of the year, are forced to accept that it is simply not practical to always obtain as much daylight indoors as recommended by the standard.

Table A.3 in this document shows daylight factors corresponding to different external illuminance levels occurring at the various European capitals. This document contains a Swedish national annex with Table NA.1, which shows the daylight factors (D) that correspond to different external illuminance levels that occur at some additional locations in Sweden in addition to Stockholm.
