YEAR 2012-2013: No. of university rank holders from the dept. - 8 (UG) & 1 (PG) Out of 68 UG students 55 got placed in software and core
companies. No. of industrial visits to various mechanical engineering
based companies – 07. Best project award was awarded to a final year project by TAFE
Private Limited, Chennai. Papers published by mechanical staffs:
Internal Journals – 05 & Conference – 15. 13 journals for subscription amount of Rs.41,000 were added. Totally three workshops are conducted by mechanical staff
members in various fields of mechanical engineering. Total workshops attended by the faculty -10. MoU was signed with Weston-Thomson India Limited, Chennai
and Barry-Wehmiller International Resources, Chennai. No. of visits of distinguished scientists/academicians – 7.
YEAR 2013-2014: Out of 69 UG students 34 got placed in core and software
industries. Papers published by mechanical staff in National and
International journals – 30. Two faculty members publications was awarded with best
paper and gold medal at international conferences on Advances in Tribology (ICAT’14) held at NIT, Calicut during 21-24 February 2014.

Six-week Technology based Entrepreneurship Development Programme (TEDP) on Welding Practice was coordinated by mechanical department faculty at SVCE.
Final year UG Mechanical students carried out 23 in house and 27 industrial projects.
CAD/CAM center was inaugurated on 29/01/2014 and it is effectively conducting 200 Hours software training program spread over three semesters on “Computer Aided Drafting, Modeling and Analysis (CADMA)” to enhance the skill levels of students in the design field and also helps them to meet the industrial requirements and their academic projects.
Along with CTRI – Weston Thomson, department is conducting Six-Sigma green belt certification program for students in order to improve the knowledge and better equip themselves for the industry (already two batches are completed successfully).

Anna University with effect from May 2009In April / May 2012 Examinations, we have obtained two university ranks who CGPA ranges from 8.66 to 8.90
The project titled "Electronic Ballot Box", executed by Mr.Meiyappan, Mr.Niranjan Balaji and Mr.Mahadev Subramanian from the 2008-12 batch of Electronics and Communication Engineering, has been selected as a best project under the Innovative Student Projects Award-2012 given by Indian National Academy Of Engineering and awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000/-
In April / May 2014 Examinations, we have obtained seven university ranks who CGPA ranges from 8.35 to 9.06.
