piccolo

notes with diamond heads indicate "aeolian sound".that is, notes played with a very high factor of breathing sound.this is normally produced by placing the mouth somewhat furtheraway from the embouchure than is usual.

eb clarinet

notes with square heads indicate "blow sound".the mouthpiece should used. if the sound becomes too weak add sh-sound with the tongue. you can also pinch the reed to add resistance. only the fingerings in the eb clarinet fingering table should be used.

vibraphone

the vibraphone is to be played with knitting sticks with earrings or small metal chains attached to them. the pedal is never to be used. the two noteheads is showing that the two hands is used simultaneaoulsy. if there is only one accidental it is used for the two notes. the sound should be a blend between the metal sizzle and the sound of the dry lamell. it should not have too much of pitch.

travel conga

the travel conga is played with two heavy beaters.place one beater onto the skin.this beater is to be covered by cloth.in the other hand, the player has aonther beater.the player hits the cloth covered beater with the other beater and produces the beats and the notated tremolos.all tremolos are to be played with one hand.

the three staffs for the conga are from below :1. the placement of the first beater on the skin. the edge have a slightly lower tone than the center. the clef shows though center as a high position and edge as a low position [edge - center].2. the hitting location of the second beater on the first beater [up - down].3. the hitting location on the second beater itself [hand - tip].

comments on dynamic notation

all dynamic signs are within quotation marks and do not indicate the actualvolume heard but rather the intensity of the action.the crescendos should be played with little crescendo in the beginning andmuch crescendo at the end ("saving" much of the crescendo for the end).the diminuendos are to be played with a lot diminuendo at the

violin, cello

square notes are to be played as semi-harmonics where the finger touches the string very gently without depressing it. one could add one or two fingers behind the first finger to ensure that the string is well damped and to avoid all harmonics effects. the tone quality should be a sound as hollow and airy as possible without losing the difference between two pitch positions.the dynamics are produced not by bow pressure but by bow speed. it is recommended to use a lot of resin to get the sound right (not too smooth and soft).the part is to played entirely on the g-string (cello c-string) using a heavy bow (for the violin 60+ gram).
