    Purpose of this panel: To create a space where a new generation of theatre artists and educators can interact withseasoned professionals. It was our aim to identify successful practices that must be preserved and to note emergingtrends deserving of attention. In this time of shifting leadership within the field, how do the seasoned professionalsenvision the future? How does the new generation of artists and educators hope to reinvigorate the field? With oursession, we aim to: discuss how the field is shifting ground to make room for tomorrow's generation of theatreartists and educators. ...create dialogue between veteran professionals and the next generation of leaders. provideguidance and insight to novice professionals in theatre education and theatre for young audiences.

    Meet the Panelists

    residenciesandalsoservesasProjectDirectorforanU.S.DepartmentofEducationArtsinEducationModelDevelopment

    andDisseminationgrantawardedtoChildsplay.AtUniversityofNorthCarolinaatAshevilleshewasaprofessorandthe

    TheatreforYoungAudiencesspecialist.

    EmilyFreemangraduated fromNorthwesternUniversitywithaB.A. inTheatrein2008. Sincethenshe'straveledthe

    countryworkingasaprofessionalteachingartist,director,andasaninternatTheJohnF.KennedyCenterforPerforming

    Arts,andTheAsoloRepertoryTheatre.Herpassionsincludedevisingwithyoungpeople,andexploringwaysforyouthto

    becomeacknowledgedandutilizedcitizensinthecommunity.EmilywillbeattendingTheUniversityofTexasatAustin

    thisfalltobeginworkingonherM.F.A.inDramaandTheatreforYouth.

    Molly Gittelman graduated from Arizona State University in 2008 with her MFA in Theatre for Youth. Since hergraduationsheworksforvariousartsorganizationsandschoolsasafreelanceteachingartistofdramaforages3-14.

    RussellGranetstartedArtsEducationResourceafterseventeenyearsofworkingwithNewYorkCitynon-profits.HismostrecentpositionwasattheCenterforArtsEducation(CAE):TheNYCAnnenbergChallengeforArtsEducationasthe

    DirectorofProfessionalDevelopmentandPeerExchangeuntilstartingArtsEducationResourcein2007.Russellscareer

    hasbeengreatlyinfluencedbyworkingcloselywithNYCspecialeducationteacherswhileworkingasateachingartist

    withNewYorkUniversitysCreativeArtsTeam.

    XanS. Johnson,Ph.D.,isafullprofessorin theDepartmentofTheatreattheUniversityofUtah.Joiningthefacultyin1982, Dr. Johnsonhasserved asDepartmentChair, asHead ofTheatre Education, asArtistic Director of thePioneer

    MemorialTheatre'sYoungPeople'sTheatre,andasHeadoftheChildDrama/YoungPeople'sTheatregraduateprogram.

    Dr.Johnsonisalsoapublishedplaywright,andfreelancesasascriptwriter,director,anddramaspecialist.Dr.Johnson,

    who also has a background in Drama Therapy and Child Psychology, headed the University of Utah Child Abuse

    PreventionProgram(U-CAPP)"Trust"TouringCompanyfor12years.

    Christina Marn, Ph.D., has her B.S. in Theatre from NorthwesternUniversity and her doctorate in Theatrewith aconcentrationinTheatreforYouthfromArizonaStateUniversity.ForthelastfiveyearsshehasworkedasanAssistant

    Professor in the Programin Educational Theatre atNYUwhere shewas the Faculty Supervisorfor theEDTCMasters

    ProgramforEducationalTheatreinCollegesandCommunities.ThisfallsheisthrilledtobejoiningthefacultyatEmerson

    College andbeginningawhole newchapter ofherlife andcareer inBoston. Christinaswork lies at theintersection

    betweenappliedtheatrepracticeandscholarship.

    JohnnySaldaaisaProfessorofTheatreintheKatherineK.HerbergerCollegeoftheArts'SchoolofTheatreandFilmat

    ArizonaStateUniversity(ASU)wherehehastaughtsince1981.Hehasbeeninvolvedinthefieldoftheatreeducationasa

    teachereducator,dramaspecialist,director,andresearcher.Mr.SaldaaistheauthorofDramaofColor:Improvisation

    with Multiethnic Folklore (Heinemann, 1995), Longitudinal Qualitative Research: Analyzing Change Through Time

    (AltaMiraPress,2003Ethnodrama:AnAnthologyofRealityTheatre(AltaMiraPress,2005),andTheCodingManualfor

    QualitativeResearchers(SagePublications,2009).

    XanthiaAngelWalkerbeganherCornerstonejourneyasanInstitutestudentinthefifthInstituteSummerResidencyin

    2008.AsofMay13th2010,sheholdsaMasterofFineArtsinTheatreforYouthfromArizonaStateUniversity.Sheearned

    aBAinTheatreArtsandaBAinGender,WomenandSexualityStudiesfromtheUniversityofMinnesota.Sheispassionate

    abouttheintersectionoftheatreandsocialjustice,andlovescreatingcommunity-basedtheatrewith youth. Xanthia willco-found Rising Youth Theatre in 2011: a community-based youth theatre company in Phoenix, Arizona.
