What would be the one thing you would do to increase participation in USTA National Tournaments?

Full feed-in backdraw - 5th place potential

Make sure the tournaments are well run.

Cut back on league play for women

Better hotels closer to courts, with discounts.

Scheduling; Begins on weekend; more night events

Talk about them to other high level players in my area.

Have one tournament per month Nationally in my age division

Lower fee when draw is so small, sometimes only two other people in my draw.

guarantee at least three matches

Doing what you're doing. Ask people what they want.

less expensive; Subsidized travel expenses

Early local club notification

Page 14: Survey Results & Analysisassets.usta.com/...Survey_Results_April_5_for_web.pdf · The results analysis includes answers from all respondents who took the survey in the 27 day period

Offer prize money ; gifts

Have them over holiday weekends such as President's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc

Lower entry fees and eliminate the USTA website surcharge

possibly rotate the sites of the nationals every two or three years

more MXD events and more prize money would probably entice me to play more often

Reduce the length of time (days)

Market the events to grass roots...club players.

spread out tournaments...too many in CA and FL; very expensive travel

offer more tourneys and locations

Host them at a nice facility

more local events

have some social events for players and spouses

free up more time (only I can do that, USTA can't)

Contract with Tennis Channel to televise finals.

Reduce travel expenses - air travel is very expensive right now

Full feed in consolation to determine position 5

Have a standard followed by each club.

Doubles open til 1st day of singles play

Be more informed as to where and when

hard to say. I play for enjoyment. more local tournaments. I joined the Riverside Clay Court Tennis Association so that I could play their tournaments eventho I drive over an hour to get there. they saved clay court tennis in nyc and deserve ...

Encourage friends to join me in playing national tournaments

cure for rotator cuff disease, that is why I don't enter singles anymore

More senior tournaments on weekends

Move the location of the tournament

Center cat 1 tournaments around weekends. Especially for the 30-55 age groups.

consolation matches

INCREASE MY RETIREMENT PAY

Get the word out more

The Consolation Winner should receive the same point he would if he had won in the round he lost in the main draw.

Make more available in different regions of the country

retire (so have more time to play!)

provide housing

Begin play on Saturday

Page 15: Survey Results & Analysisassets.usta.com/...Survey_Results_April_5_for_web.pdf · The results analysis includes answers from all respondents who took the survey in the 27 day period

Week Ends; this is less time off work

make travel and acomodations less costly

make sure there are some category IIs in each USTA section

Doubles consoliation & age levels

have clear seasons for indoor, hard, clay, grass

Help with housing expenses

More clay tourny with consols

Educate prospective players that signing up for a tournament doesn't necessarily mean spending three consecutive 12-hours days sitting around the tennis facility. Too many people believe they "don't have the time" to dedicate to a tournament.

Market more to the general tennis population the fun and thrill of competing "on the tour"

Push club pros to help promote all tournaments.

Make Participant Party a welcoming party so all can attend

Pick geographic locations with choice of amenities

location. No travel

Offer more than four. Send email blast with yearly national schedule to all members.

more category II

More information about them and promoting them well before tournament play. Right now USTA web page is hard to navigate and many people do not know about these tourneys.

Quit my job! :-)

play in texas where it is in the middle of the country

Make them start on a Wed or Thurs and end on a Sun. PLay more than one round per day.

Husband wife tournaments increased

Consolation matches for doubles

Have more in travel destinations

more choices, more dates

Promote tournaments at the league level

market to former players

allow people to play more events within the tournament.

have more mixed

cheaper housing

reduce air fares

if you started one on friday, even week long ones, it would cut down the time lost at work for many players. if they made it to monday, they would deep into the draw. if they lost, they could be back to work on monday or tues.missing only a few days

Page 16: Survey Results & Analysisassets.usta.com/...Survey_Results_April_5_for_web.pdf · The results analysis includes answers from all respondents who took the survey in the 27 day period

Improved and advanced scheduling of matches

The only way would be to do away with NTRP program

More doubles tournaments.

Starting tournaments on a Friday or Saturday might be good, since not so many will be inconvenienced to play during the week

Make some team-based nationals

have trainers at the tournaments

more cat I events in TX

Increase more local tournaments

shorter length of tournaments

Reduce the cost by offering housing with locals.

many league players have no clue that there is such a thing

More matches in shorter timeframe

Consolation

Space the match scheduling or shorten the first rounds to a Super-breaker for the 3rd set.

set up a buddy system. doubles partners.

allow 2 losses in consolations if time, weather, and facilities allow.

Prize money for quarter finals and up

more prize money and beable to play in two divisions.

Use rankings for seeding & team selection

Offer more for those that work. I work so can't play the dates that are offered. I am on a teacher's schedule.

more category 2 tournaments ,with new locations

tournaments in smaller sections

Create a "partner list" ahead of time similar to Huntsman Senior Games

Less leagues

Add season-end section tournament for top 16 ranked players.

count all tournament played for the ranking

secnd round feed in to consolations

There needs to be more prizes and a reason why to play . I pay $30 in entry fee and $200 for travel and I expect a nice dinner, prizes, and a well ran tournament. There should be prizes and more acknowledgement for ranking of NTRP players.

For those age groups that do not have at least 4 players entered the fee should be lessened.

Start with increasing AWARENESS. Many players do not even know these tournaments and rankings exist. This should start with the section and I believe that a player should have to do something to earn their way, like hold a section rank. cont.....

Page 17: Survey Results & Analysisassets.usta.com/...Survey_Results_April_5_for_web.pdf · The results analysis includes answers from all respondents who took the survey in the 27 day period

better amenities for the players

Stop fooling around with the ranking requirements

Provide complimentary or discounted food

Make sure the refs know the rules and more importantly enforce them. If a tournament is paying for refs, then the refs should work. If they don't, then it is a waste of money.

i like the way it is now

More tournaments on age group

Better planning of multiple events, e.g., singles and doubles not scheduled only hours apart on same day.

Have More Combined Age Tournaments

Guarantee 3 matches

More National Tournaments in more locations. Don't do pro set for consolation-two sets and third set tie break.

Subsidize accommodation costs

Keep the senior leagues on a 60,70and over age requirement.

More convenient locations

Advertise at the League/Club level

Improve NTRP ratings

Give NO POINTS unless consolation matches are played

shorten tournaments for younger players (35s-40s)

Make the tournaments longer, having to play two matches in a row on two consecutive days can be rough!

full feed in consolations

better run events and locations

Have them closer to home.

lower the entry fees, condense the time for the tournament

start on a friday or Saturday with singles and doubles that way players can miss as little of work as possible.

have more 75, 80, 85, 90 and 95 tournaments

Men and women play together like to 40 Hardcourt Nationals.

Almost everything needs to be clay/soft courts. Human body not made for pounding on hard surfaces. Everyone knows this.

Offer full consolation at all events

more stand alone doubles tournaments

1. Have more Cat II tournaments in So Cal. 2. Have all CAT I &II tounaments include the men and women together.

Accessible location.

offer more housing

Page 18: Survey Results & Analysisassets.usta.com/...Survey_Results_April_5_for_web.pdf · The results analysis includes answers from all respondents who took the survey in the 27 day period

Make the dates and days better

More in my area. Travel is too expensive.

Work harder

More time apart from our business

quality facilities

Have more of them in the Southwest section.

consolation matches in all national cat 1 and cat 2
