    Surround Sound Basics

    Overview

    Surround Sound Basics is an introductory seminar for sound engineers, mixers, sound

    recordists, post production people, systems and broadcast engineers and technicalmanagers. It provides the knowledge and skills needed to understand, evaluate and apply

    modern surround sound systems and coding standards in a production or broadcast

    environment. It builds the basis for production and engineering oriented surround sound

    seminars and is a Dolby approved training course.

    Basics of hearing and spatial perception, channel formats Microphone setups for surround sound capturing Signal routing, panning and mixing Key technologies: AD-conversion, clocking and

    and software coding Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus in an advanced

    broadcast workflow System design and integration in SD, HD and IPTV

    infrastructures

    TRAINER PROFILE

    Karl M. Slavik(Dipl. Paed. Ing.) is owner of ARTECAST, seniorengineer and consultant. He is working in the audio, video andbroadcast industry since 1981, holding different positions inproduction (sound engineer, video engineer and producer) andsystems engineering. He studied electronics andtelecommunications as well as vocational pedagogics with anemphasis on communications & audiovisual media. From 1999to 2005 he worked for the Austrian Broadcasting CorporationORF, where he was responsible for implementing surroundSound and Dolby technologies. Karl M. Slavik is a certifiedDolby Broadcast Consultant.
