  • You Dont Want to Miss This ActivityThe 17th Annual Surgery of the Foregut Symposium will take place at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As in previous years, a first-class group of world renowned gastrointestinal surgeons, gastroenterologists and oncologists have been invited to share their expertise and updates on the most recent technological and therapeutic advances in this steadily evolving field. Since 1999, this 4 day course has become one of the most prestigious forums in the field of foregut surgery with attendees and faculty travelling from around the globe.

    The 2018 scientific session will feature a full day presenting the 5th International Congress of Fluorescence Guided Surgery, under the leadership of Dr. Takeaki Ishizawa from Tokyo, Japan. This is one of the most fascinating and promising developments in the field of surgery. The second day will be devoted to the surgical management of complex disease processes of the esophagus and will be presented by the Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston under the leadership of the internationally renowned Raphael Bueno, MD. On the 3rd day, the scientific sessions will concentrate on the most recent advances, controversies and developments in the field of bariatric and metabolic surgery. To continue our tradition, we will feature the Robert Herrmann MD Annual Lecture that will be delivered by Raphael Bueno MD, on Esophageal Surgery in the 21st Century, and the Walter E. Pories MD, Annual Lecture delivered by Jack Himpens, MD on the Evolution of Bariatric Surgery, from weight loss to metabolic interventions. In addition, and back by popular demand, we will host a fourth day of Live Surgery that will be presented at the David Jagelman Conference Center at the Cleveland Clinic Florida campus in Weston.

    bared sutures, and present complications of repair Evaluate new approaches to foregut disorders, analyze new techniques, and present technical pitfalls

    of re-operative foregut surgery Identify technical pitfalls when repairing parastomal hernias, familiarize with alternative approaches

    to ventral hernia repair, and review mesh utilization when performing laparoscopic vs. open repairs Present most common re-operative approaches, technical pitfalls of re-operative surgery of the

    esophagus and discuss how to identify and manage most frequent complications Present the current epidemiological data and tends of gastroparesis, discuss best non-surgical

    treatment modalities, and analyze the outcomes of most common surgical approaches Provide the audience with surgical approaches to esophageal cancer, distinguish treatment

    modalities based on pathological exam, and discuss outcomes and oncological approaches Recognize signs and symptoms of achalasia, assess how to best manage complications such as

    epiphrenic diverticula, and review the new treatment modalities Review the basic concept of fluorescent imaging techniques and alternative fluorescent dyes, and

    discuss different applications of fluorescent imaging Review the current standards for technical performance of various methods of primary bariatric

    procedures and what are the long-term outcomes Appraise how decisions are made in the operating room and how surgeons can apply aviation and

    sports industry skills improvement techniques
