Feedback from Participants
How have you applied the course content?
“I read the NOA because I know how important it is to look for specifics the prime federal funder has outlined. I now think about what "type" of agreement I am working with, i.e., contract, fellowship. I have more of a 'can do' attitude as opposed to a 'stressed attitude' I have a "lets get this right" attitude because I have knowledge to draw on to do it right. I value the entire research cycle now as opposed to just my small piece. It's made me realize how important the research is and the funding to the PI, UCSD, the community and beyond.”
“I have been able to give my PI some advice on her grants, and generally feel more confident.”
“I have used the NIH Prime award numbers to make determinations. I think about my customers' personality styles and their specific research to try and serve them better. It has changed my mind set to see "bigger picture" and lifecycle of my small piece. It has made me realize there is significant purpose and importance in the "little things" in my work that affects the big picture. It has made me think about what type of agreement I am looking at. I have read almost all the NCURA micrograph series booklets and incorporate them into my IDP plan.”

How have you applied the course content?
“I completed the course before I was in a research administration position. The course provided me with information that allowed me to move into a fund manager position. The course gave me a good foundation to build on as an entry level fund manager.”
“Ensure accurate grant management, create and implement internal audit procedures, remain current on applicable and pending laws, policies, regulations and trends.”
“I have a deeper understanding of restricted and non-restricted indexes, as well as direct costs and indirect costs. I was able to catch a shipment of human cells and plasmids that were going to go out without an MTA. I was better able to assist in the T32 application process this Spring. I have a better overview of the IPPS system. I know the resources available to me if I encounter an issue, plus I can better recognize that something IS an issue.”
