IVYP: Stepping up in every season
Where families come to grow roots since 1971
THIS PAST YEAR has been a year like no other. I am so proud of the way IVYP stepped up to meet the challenges our community faced in the past year. Together, we met the emerging needs of our community while staying true to our values. We believe that we become resilient through healthy relationships. Throughout the year, IVYP nurtured relationships with children, with our families, and with our community partners. We responded, we innovated, we thrived. Thank you for your support as we continue to navigate our uncertain future.
Lori Lander Goodman, MSW Executive Director
From our Executive Director
BY BUILDING A RESILIENT and connected community, IVYP seeks to mitigate the effects of poverty, racism, and trauma so that all children and families can prosper and thrive. We are guided by our values and our vision. They help us to stay resilient, nimble, and adaptive through every season.

We are fl exible and nimble, leveraging resources in order to pursue new opportunities.Creativity…
Over the Summer… IVYP stepped up to support children and families
impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our Family Resource
Center distributed food weekly to hungry families. Our
Children’s Center reopened on July 20, 2020 to prepare
students for Kindergarten and in August, re-opened fully.
Our school-aged program launched an innovative virtual
summer program, including mindfulness, academic support,
and fun activities. As an agency we provided digital literacy
training to our staff so that they could better communicate
with caregivers.

In the Fall…elementary school students
returned to school — on
Zoom. We quickly realized
that many students did not have adequate study
space. In response, IVYP purchased and distributed lap desks
so that students would be able to “attend” school comfortably.
The Fall was dominated by our national and local elections.
In order to engage our community in the electoral process,
IVYP conducted a virtual and bilingual candidates forum for
GUSD school board candidates.
We commit to being curious about our impact by challenging assumptions.Curiosity…

We honor identities to create the opportunity for authentic relationships and nurture social justice.Respect…
During Wintertime…we had so many opportunities to address families’ needs in our
community. In December, we began a partnership with Cottage
Hospital to provide COVID education for hard to reach members
of our community. We distributed masks, hand-sanitizer, vitamins
and information in our COVID Prevention Kits.
In February, we launched our
diaper initiative. One in three
California families struggle
to provide clean diapers
for their baby. There are no
Government programs which
help offset the cost of diapers.
Thanks to a partnership with
UCSB, we began providing
fully cooked meals to families
each day. By March, almost
all of our staff had been fully
vaccinated!

We believe that no one person, no one agency can address our community’s problems alone.Collaboration…
By the Spring…we turned our focus to getting our community vaccinated.
In partnership with Cottage Population Health, IVYP trained
Vaccine Health Ambassadors across the region to engage
people in conversations about the COVID-19 vaccine. Our
own health ambassadors fanned out across the community to
encourage every eligible person to become vaccinated.

“In order for children to thrive, they need secure, safe, and stable connections with their caregivers. IVYP’s programs
provide that connection
directly to build family resilience.”
