Unregulated Activities:• Unregulated providers do not undertake

personal care tasks in the person’s own home . They are not registered with the Care Quality Commission and therefore are not inspected .

Categories of Supported Living:• Sheltered & Extra Care Housing - mainly

for older people and it promotes inde-pendent living, e.g. residential homes

• Short-term Housing - mainly for people in a crisis, e.g. Homelessness Supported Housing, Domestic Abuse Housing, Supported Lodgings for Young persons, Respite Centers, Floating Support

• Long-term Housing - mainly for people who have been in hospitals for long periods and people needing greater degree of support

Market Research

• According to LaingBuisson, the home care and supported living market is worth £9.1billion (2016/17 figures). Supported Living is predicted to raise at a rate of 2.7% yearly.

• We research: what is in demand in the area, local area suitable locations and housing, and at what prices local authorities are willing to pay.

Dementia rates are soaring In the UK, dementia causes more disability in later life than cancer, cardiovascular diseases and strokes. One in six over the age of 80 has dementia and the trend is set to rise from the current level of 850,000 to over one million people living with dementia in the UK by 2025. By 2051, that will double to two million.

Many dementia sufferers remain living at home and, even if they have support from family and spouses, they need additional specialist care.

Promoting independent living

Government initiatives aim to promote independent living and to help people

to be cared for in their own home, but in a society where families are not always on hand locally for support, the reliance falls on trusted care solutions to provide this support.

A demand for services

• All the above equates to an increase in demand for services to care for people within the community and the resulting strain on public sector healthcare services, in turn, increases the demand for private provisions.

• To facilitate the explosive growth, the home care and supported living market and related services are currently estimated at £9.1 billion and are only going to grow to keep up with the unprecedented demand.

Why invest in a Supported Living?

• The supported living market is facing unprecedented growth due to government favoring more community type services.

• Independent living at home is promoted by the government and the public sector cannot keep up.

• The care business is non-seasonal, which makes for sustained cash-flow and easy financial planning.

• Supported Living is considered recession-proof as it is a need and not a luxury.

While Supported Living is a growing field with strong profit potential, it also demands a lot of care and forethought. In order to succeed, you have to take many steps to lay the right foundation for your business. You have to adhere to several regulations.

At Care Agency Media, through our start-up packages, we help to ensure that you understand and apply these in your business in order for it to run with minimal frustrations.
