General Instructions:

* Fire Barriers must be installed in accordance with installation instructions to maintain UL Rating.

* These instructions are for all horizontal Multiflex and Monoflex installations. For 7"-20" nominal joint widths galvanized

flanges are welded to the fire barriers as shown on the following pages. For 1"-6" nominal joint widths galvanized

flanges are not attached, follow instructions and notch flanges as required. Galvanized flanges are always required for

installation.

* The 7"-12" nominal joint width barriers are a single draped system.

* The 13"-20" nominal joint width barriers are a double draped system as shown.

* Typically, the same fasteners can be used to fasten the cover plate mechanism and the fire barriers.

* See separate installation instructions for straight runs of fire barrier.

* Wear heavy duty work gloves and eye protection during the entire installation process.

Packaging:

One kit with the necessary material for splicing.

Material Preparation:

Set the product out face up (the side with the UL label) and cut to length.

90° CORNER SPLICING INSTRUCTIONS

The following instructions are to be used to splice together two pieces of expansion joint fire blankets creating a 90° corner. It is

recommended that this procedure be performed prior to installation on a flat surface. After the splicing of the 90° corner is completed,

the installation procedure remains the same as described in the model size fire barrier type installation instructions.

Note: Fire Barriers must be spliced in accordance with splicing instructions to maintain UL Rating.

STEP 1

Lay each blanket segment on a flat surface. Measure and mark the joint width distance on the inside 90° corner of the galvanized

flange of each blanket to be spliced. This will be the splice zone. Remove only the tie pins within the splice zone of each blanket

segment (See Figs. 1,2,& B).

STEP 2

On the opposite side of the fire barrier at the galvanized flange blanket portion (surface mount or low profile flanges) measure and

measure and mark 3/4" in on the anchor portion of the galvanized flange a "V" CUT. Cut out only these marked locations on the

flange.

STEP 3

Cut off the pre-welded flanges in the joint width splice zones of the inside 90° corner (See Fig. 4). At the outside 90° corner, trim off

STEP 4

At the splice zone areas, inside 90° corner, cut back the top screen and foil areas. Carefully fold back the top screen and foil layer

exposing the fire barrier insulation layers. (See Fig. 6 & 7) Note: Monoflex (OFX) fire barrier does not have a top or bottom screen

layer.

STEP 5

Make a cardboard concave and convex template to create the splicing arch of the insulation fire barrier layers. The template will equal

the joint width plus 4". The template width is the fire barrier blanket width. The convex or concave arch is 2 1/2" from the diagonal line.

Mark on template the outside corners.

Using the cardboard templates to make convex and concave type archs, alternating at each insulation blanket layer, cutting away the

layer of insulation in the splice zone of each blanket segment. Be careful not to cut away the metallic septum layer (foil layers between

blanket layers) in cutting the insulation (See Figs. 8 - 13). Fold the septum (foil) layer back before cutting the next fire barrier insulation

layer. Make the opposite cuts on the other half of the splicing fire barrier.

STEP 7

Overlap the bottom foils bringing together the two blanket segments and flanges, then interweaving the septum (foil) and insulation

layers (See Figs. 14 - 16). The splice should not have any gaps. Overlap the top two screens . Install two pins joint sizes 10" and

smaller, three pins for joint sizes larger than 10". Install pins from the bottom of the slpice zone, through all foil and insulation layers

and both of the outer screen layers (See Fig 17). *Note: Monoflex (OFX) Fire Barrier does not have a top or bottom screen layer.

STEP 8

Note: Pinned together laying flat the fire barrier will not be at a 90° angle (See Fig. 18).

To install 90° corner splice into the joint cavity, fold fire barrier along the center line of the blanket bending into a "U" shape being

careful not pull apart the splice area (See Fig. 19). Drill the appropriate size holes and secure the flanges with fasteners with a

maximum spacing of 18 inches (Reference fire barrier installation instructions for mounting Surface Mount and Low Profile Flanges).
