SONG  #1  PROLOGUE  (played  gently  underneath  dialogue)    

PREAMBLE   Far  across  the  vast  reaches  of  time  and  space,  beyond  the  view  of  mans  telescopes  and  machines,  few  could  have  known  the  terror  that  was  set  in  motion  thousands  of  light  years  before.    

    The  SUPERNOVA,  a  gigantic  blazing  star  50,000  times  the  

size  of  our  sun,  had  embarked  on  a  collision  course  with  planet  Earth.  And  hurtling  at  the  speed  of  light  it  grew  in  power  and  menace  as  it  demolished  all  that  stood  in  its  path.  

    The  heat  from  its  surface  was  so  intense  it  would  liquefy  

entire  planets,  consuming  their  energy  and  life-­‐force.    And  so  it  came  forth,  “the  Supernova,”  destroying  and  growing  in  power,  devouring  whole  solar  systems  as  it  continued  upon  its  cataclysmic  collision  course  with  planet  earth.  

    Who  will  stand  up  to  this  impending  doom  and  defend  

mankind?  Who  will  risk  certain  death  to  secure  the  planet  for  future  generations?  

      Is  there  a  hero  among  us  who  still  has  the  courage  to  

save?       Don’t  leave  your  seats!  Don’t  switch  off  your  cellphones!       Stand  by  for  “SUPERNOOOOOOOOOVA  the  Musical”  part  1  

 ACT  1    SCENE  1-­‐  BLY  SKY  OBSERVATORY/SUPERS  ACADEMY  

 PROFESSOR               Great  scott!  (looking  through  

telescope)      ASTRONOMER  2             What  is  it  professor?    

 PROFESSOR       I’m  not  sure,  but  whatever  it  is  it’s  gigantic,  and  it’s  

heading  our  way,  take  a  look.    

 ASTRONOMER  2   By  the  rings  of  Saturn,  that’s  enormous!

  Like  a  giant  fireball.  (Looking  through  telescope)      

PROFESSOR   That’s  no  ordinary  interstellar  fireball  Astronomer  2      ASTRONOMER  2   Then  what  is  it  Professor?      PROFESSOR               That’s  a  Supernova!  

   

ASTRONOMER  2   A  Supernova?      

PROFESSOR             Yes,  a  giant  supercharged  sun,  more  powerful  than  anything  in  our  galaxy,  and  it’s  heading  right  this  way.  This  is  an  alpha  level  emergency.  Better  get  “Supers  Academy”  on  the  line.  

   

ASTRONOMER  2   Right  away  Professor,  right  away  (phone  rings)      CORPORAL   Good  morning  Supers  Academy.  “Making  zeros  into  

heroes”  how  may  I  help  you?    

 ASTRONOMER  2   This  is  Blue  Sky  Mountain  Observatory.  We  have  an  Alpha  

level  breach,  I  repeat  an  Alpha  level  breach!      

CORPORAL   Roger  that  Blue  Sky  Mountain,  assembling  the  supers  as  we  speak.  (alarm  rings  out,  chorus  enters  stage)  SGT  Major?  

   SGT  MAJOR   Supeeeeeeers,  fall  in!  Left,  left,  left  right  left……………

it’s  the  last  thing  I  do.  Company  report.  Flyers?                            FLYERS   Sir  yes  sir!  (flyers  salute)    

 CAPT  Z                                                                                          All  reported  and  accounted  for  SGT  Major.    

 SGT  MAJOR                                                                        EXTRAORDINAIRES?  (Extaordinaires  salute)      RAZZ                                                                     Present  and  ready  for  extraordinary  action  

sir.      SGT  MAJOR                                                                        MINDBENDERS?  (Mind  Pose)  

   MINDGRIND                                                                    All  present  and  aware  sir.  (monotonous  voice)      SGT  MAJOR                                                                        ROGUES?  (Rogues  whisper  to  each  other)      DR  STRANGE                                                                    Ready  and  awaiting  your  command  Sgt  Major.(rolling  

bows)      SGT  MAJOR                                                                      Right  then  …aaah…hang  on  a  minute.                                                                                                            What  do  we  have  here?  You  two  there,  second  row  third  

and  fourth  from  the  left  step  forward.  (Sweep  and  Dig  step  forward)  And  exactly  what  do  you  two  think  you  are  doing  in  the  supers’  assembly  hmmm?  

   SWEEP                                                                               Please  sir,  We  want  to  be  supers  sir!

SGT  MAJOR                                                                        Supers??    You  two?    But  you’re  Sweep,  the  academy  janitor,  and  you  are  Dig,  the  academy  gardener.  You’re  ordinaries,  you  know-­‐  “born  without  super  powers.”    

 ALL   Ahahahahahaha……  

   

SWEEP                                                                               But  we  really  want  to  be  supers  sir.  I’m  sure  we  have  super  powers  somewhere,  we  just  haven’t  found  them  yet.  

 ALL   Hahahahaha…      CAPT  Z   Well  can  you  fly?      DIG   No  not  exactly,  but  I  did  jump  off  the  roof  of  my  house  

once.      ALL   Hahaahahahahaha……      MINDGRIND   Can  you  control  things  with  telekinesis?      SWEEP   Not  yet,  although  my  mum  says  she  can  read  my  mind,  so  

perhaps  it’s  in  the  family?      ALL   Hahahahahahahaha……        RAZZ   Any  extra  special  abilities?  Animal  morph,  elemental  

control,  shape  shifting?      DIG   Well….I  can  curl  up  into  a  really  small  ball,  look.  (curls  up  on  

floor)      ALL   Hahahahahahahaha…………

DR  STRANGE   Just  face  it  kids.  You’re  just  not  cut  out  to  be  supers.  You’ll  never  be  special  like  us.  Accept  your  place  in  the  world,  as  ordinaries.  

   ALL   Hahahaha  (Rogues  laugh,  Colonel  and  Corporal  enter)      SGT  MAJOR                                                                        Enough!  Here  comes  the  Colonel,  we’ll  see  what  he  has

   ALL                     Sir  yes  sir!  

   

COLONEL                                                                                Ahheeem!  (corporal  places  box  to  increase  height)  Jolly  good  show    SGT  Major  jolly  good  show.  At  ease  everybody,  at  ease.  Aaah  em,  yes,  I  have  called  you  to  assembly  today  to…….  What  was  it  again?  

   CORPORAL                                                     The  Alpha  Level  Breach  Sir.  

   

COLONEL                                                         Ahh  yes,  supers  it  appears  we  have  an  alpha  level                                                                                                 beach.  (everyone  confused)        CORPORAL                                                     Breach  sir,  Breach  not  beach  

   

COLONEL                                                                 Yes  quite  right,  an  alpha  level  breach  eh  what?.  (chorus    panicked)  

   ALL   Oh  no!      SGT  MAJOR                                                           An  alpha  level  breach  sir?  But  that  means  a  threat  from  

outer       space.

COLONEL   Jolly  good  old  chap,  I’m  quite  aware  of  what  an  Alpha  Level  peach  entails.  

   COPRPORAL   Breach  sir,  breach  not  peach      COLONEL   Ah  yes,  and  what  was  this  breach  again  

   

CORPORAL   The  Supernova  sir.      

COLONEL   Ah  yes,  the  Supernova.  A  giant  fireball  from  outerspace  eh  what,  and  it’s  coming  right  at  us…we’re  all  doomed,  doomed  I  say!  (all  shocked)  Unless  of  course,  there  is  a  super  among  us  who  can  still  save  planet  earth?  For  years  this  fine  academy  has  been  charged  with  the  security  of  the  human  race.  We  have  fought  untold  villains  and  evil  fiends.  (all  agree)  

  We  have  defended  the  earth  and  it’s  inhabitants  from  all  invaders.  (all  grow  in  courage)  And  now  dear  recruits,  we  face  perhaps  our  darkest  hour.  Who  amongst  us  is  ready  (all  yes)  Who  will  meet  this  foe  and  restore  security  to  planet  earth?(all  yes)  SGT  Major?  

   

SGT  MAJOR   Sir  yes  sir!      

COLONEL   Start  the  training        SGT  MAJOR   Compaaaaany  attention!      ALL   Sir  yes  sir!  (stand  at  attention)      SGT  Major   Company  present  arms  (  all  salute)  Stand  by  for  the

SONG  #  3  “ACADEMY  MARCH”  (Flag  raises  during  song.  Full  Chorus  Exit  after  song  Sweep  and  Dig  stay  on  stage)  

 Gaze  at  us,  Academy  of  Supers.  Each  of  us  are  chosen  for  our  powers.  And  every  one  competing  for  the  glory;  Glory  to  protect  the  people  of  this  land.  

Brave  we  are.  You  will  not  find  us  wanting.  Strong  at  heart-­‐with  a  fighting  spirit.  And  each  of  us  with  strong  determination,  Cherishing  the  values  of  our  Superclan.  

Corporal  Honour.  Learn  with  honour.  We  are  sworn  to  protect  our  land.  Use  our  pow’rs  for  the  good  of  all.  Showing  discipline  and  fight  to  succeed.  With  honour,  we’re  agreed.    Sergeant  Major:  Clans  present  yourselves  and  state  your  strengths  as  a  pledge  of  honour  and  commitment  to  the  Academy.    Flyers:  Flyers,  we  soar  into  the  heavens;    Megaminds:  Pow’r  of  thought  gives  Megaminds  true  awesomeness;    Extraordinaires:  Extraordinaires,  most  special  of  the  Supers;    Rogues:  Causing  havoc  is  the  power  of  the  Rogues.    Colonel:  Proud  we  are  of  our  Superclans.  You  embody  the  Academy’s  true  heart.  Live  your  lives  as  we’ve  taught  you  to.  You  must  serve  for  the  power  of  good.  For  honour’s  sake,  you  should.    Dr.  Strange:  Ah.  What’s  this  talk  of  honour?  Piffle.  Honour  without  domination  is  pointless.  I  get  what  I  want  through  any  means  possible.  The  Academy  is  just  a  cover  for  my  wicked  schemes….hahahaha.

But  we  must  keep  a  sense  of  true  proportion.  Pride  and  self-­‐obsession  can  get  out  of  hand.  

Joined  we  stand,  protecting  people  of  our  land.  Honour,  combined  with  power.  Now  comes  the  hour  to  make  our  mark.  Supers  can  

ACT  1  SCENE  2    “SUPERS  ACADEMY”    

(Sweep  and  Dig  cleaning  up,  mopping  floors,  Corporal,  Principal,  SGT  Major  at  office  desk  poring  over  maps  and  data)    

                             SWEEP   (Leaning  on  Broom,  dreaming)  Kapow,  zam,  splat,  Penguinatron  to  the  rescue!  

   DIG   Penguinatron?....  What  kind  of  super  is  that?  (raking  up  

yard)      

SWEEP   He’s  a  penguin,  who  swam  into  radioactive  waste,  and  when  he  came  out  he  had  super  powers!  

   

DIG   What  does  he  do,  slap  villains  with  his  flippers?  Hahaha….      

SWEEP   No  dummy,  his  flippers  ain’t  for  slapping,  he  uses  those  for  flying.  

   DIG   hahah…Oh  right,  hahaha  a  flying  super  penguin…now  I’ve  

heard  it  all.      

SWEEP   When  I  become  a  super  I’ll  save  the  world,  just  like  Captain  Z    and  Mindgrind,  you’ll  see.  

   

DIG   But  Sweep,  Captain  Z  and  Mindgrind  are  supers.  You  know,  born  with  superpowers.  You  and  I,  we’re  just  regular  people,  ordinaries.

 SWEEP   But  that’s  just  it  Dig.  I  don’t  want  to  be  an  ordinary.  I  wanna  

fly  up  to  space  like  Captain  Z,  and  see  into  peoples  brains  like  Mindgrind.  Don’t  you  wanna  do  that  too  Dig?  Don’t  ya?  

   

DIG   No  Sweep….I  know  my  place,  and  it’s  to  be  a  gardener  here  at  the  Supers  Academy,  I  like  being  an  ordinary,  and  I  like  being  me.  

   

SWEEP     Oh  Dig,  when  I  become  a  super,  you  can  be  my  sidekick.      

DIG   Sidekick?  Me?  Really?      

SWEEP   Yeah  you  know,  like  Batman  and  Robin,  Captain  America  and  Bucky…it’ll  be  fun,  you’ll  see.  

   DIG   Well  I  guess  it  would  be  fun  to  be  a  super.  There’s  only  so  

much  grass  cutting  and  hedge  trimming  I  can  take.      SWEEP   That’s  the  spirit  Dig,  that’s  the  spirit.  Once  we’ve  completed  

our  training,  we’ll  be  able  to  find  our  superpowers  and  help  save  the  world!  

   DIG   Really?      SWEEP   Really  really!  Hey  Sgt  Major,  there’s  something  I’ve  been

SWEEP/DIG   Sir  yes  sir!  (stand  at  attention)      

 SGT  Major   You  two  are  not  cut  out  for  being  superheroes.  You’re  

ordinaries.  You  don’t  have  any  powers  and  you  never  will!  Your  jobs  are  to  sweep  the  academy  floors  and  tend  to  the  academy  gardens.  

   SWEEP   But  Sgt  Major…….I’ve  always  dreamed  of  being  a  super,  

flying  up  in  the  air,  using  my  powers  for  good,  fighting  evil.      COLONEL   Sweep,  I  have  to  admire  your  spirit  and  determination.  But  

sending  an  ordinary  like  you  into  battle  could  endanger  the  lives  of  all  our  supers.  

   CORPORAL   And  what  would  you  do  if  faced  with  a  dreaded  alien  death  

ray.      SGT  MAJOR   Not  to  mention  hand  to  hand  aerial  combat?      COLONEL/SGT/CORP   Or  a  supernova!      SGT  MAJOR   Now  back  to  work  you  two.  This  floor  needs  mopping  and  

that  hedge  needs  trimming,  perhaps  that’s  where  you’ll  find  your  super  power  hehehehe.    

   COLONEL   Yes  come  along  SGT  Major,  Corporal,  we  have  battle  plans  

to  make.  (SGT  Major,  Corporal,  Colonel  exit)      DIG   Perhaps  they’re  right  Sweep.  Perhaps  we  are  just  ordinaries  

after  all.  Perhaps  we  really  don’t  have  super  powers.  Lets  just  get  back  to  work.

SWEEP   I  can’t  Dig,  I  just  can’t.  Ever  since  I  was  a  child,  all  I  ever  wanted  was  to  be  a  superhero.  I  can’t  give  up  on  that  dream  now.    

   DIG   But  that’s  just  it  Sweep.  Perhaps  it  is  just  a  dream.  Surely  if  

we  were  meant  to  be  superheroes  we  would  be  in  the  academy  like  the  others.  

   SWEEP   But  what  if  we  are  supers  Dig?  But  we  just  haven’t  found  

our  powers  yet.      DIG   You  mean  like    late  bloomers?      SWEEP   Exactly,  If  only  I  could  find  my  super  power,  then  I  could  join  

the  academy  and  start  my  training,  if  only  I  could  find  that  special  thing.  If  only…I  could  fly.  

    SONG  #  5  “IF  I  COULD  FLY”     (Sweep  &  Dig)      

VERSE  ONE-­‐Sweep  I  don’t  have  no  super  powers  anyone  can  see  I  am  just  a  janitor  so  not  much  hope  for  me  But  if  I  had  a  power  then  I  wonder  where  I’d  be?  A  cape  and  tights,  my  name  in  lights  A  fan  club  just  for  me  CHORUS  I  would  fly  away,  just  like  superman  I’d  save  the  world  and  Fly  away  up  into  the  sky,  like  superheroes  Fly  away,  right  up  to  the  sun,  I’d  soar  Way  up  high,  in  the  sky  What  a  thrill  if  I  could  fly!  VERSE  TWO-­‐  Dig  You  don’t  have  no  super  powers  anyone  can  see  You  are  just  a  dreamer  and  a  super  wannabe  Stop  this  silly  dreamin  or  there’s  pain  I  guarantee  So  please  don’t  shirk,  get  back  to  work  I  hope  you  will  agree?  CHORUS  I  would  fly  away  ……………………..just  like  superman,  I’d  save  the  world  and  ………………………Back  to  work

DIG   Listen,  someone’s  coming  (Rogues  begin  to  enter)      

SWEEP   Sounds  like  the  Rogues.  This  could  be  trouble,  we  better  hide,  come  on!  (hide  behind  scenery  peaking  out)  

   ACT  1  SCENE  3    “ROGUES”  (All  Rogues  enter  stage)    

 DR  STRANGE   Get  into  line  you  miserable  lot,  get  into  line!  Now  listen  up.  

This  Supernova  development  is  a  stroke  of  pure  luck.  With  all  the  “goody  two  shoes”  supers  distracted  with  saving  the  earth,  it  will  be  simple  for  us  to  take  over  the  academy  for  ourselves.  And  when  we  begin  training  Supers  for  evil,  then  the  world  will  be  ours,  hahahahahaha  (evil  laugh)  

   ROGUES   Hahahahahahahahahahahaha(evil  laugh)  

   

DR  STRANGE   Enough!!!!  Only  I  do  the  evil  laugh      

ROGUE#1   But  Boss,  what  about  the  Z  men  and  their  flying  powers?      

ALL   Uuuuurgh      

ROGUE#2   And  those  Megaminds  with  their  mind  control

ROGUE#3   Not  to  mention  those  Extraordinaires  with  their  huge  range  of  weird  abilities.  

   

ALL   WE  HATE  THOSE  GUYS!      

DR  STRANGE   Yes  yes,  my  fellow  Rogues.  I  too  share  your  dislike  of  the  “goody  two  shoes”  supers.  But  now  fate  has  handed  us  a  chance  to  finally  defeat  them,  and  take  the  academy  for  our  own.  With  our  super  magnets,  we  will  slowly  suck  away  their  powers.  Why  before  the  end  of  the  day,  they’ll  be  nothing  but  a  bunch  of  ordinaries!  Hahahahaha  (all  join  in)  

   

ROGUE#1   But  boss,  how  are  we  gonna  do  it?      

ALL   Yeaaahh      

ROGUE#2   They  out  number  us  three  to  one.      

ALL   Uh-­‐Huuuh      

ROGUE#3   Plus  that  Supernova’s  gonna  destroy  us  all.      

ALL   Oooh  No      

DR  STRANGE   Silence  you  fools.  Did  you  think  that  I,  your  powerful  and  fearless  leader  would  bring  you  here  without  a  master  plan?  Did  you  think  for  a  minute  that  my  schemes  did  not  include  dealing  with  those  pathetic  morons  at  the  Academy?  When  it  comes  to  being  bad,  I’m  the  master,  why  I’m  practically  a  certified  PHd.
