Case Study #1 : CONTAINER FORKLIFT
APPLICATION :
A brand new Hybrid Drive Train has been developed by Dimac Red in collaboration with an Italian container
forklifts manufacturer for a 15-ton machine
TARGET :
Reduction of machine size and weight
Reduction of consumption
Homologation costs cut down
Performance matching or improvement
compared to standard machine
Confidential
SOLUTION :
To downsize the diesel engine ICE, a SuperCapacitor storage has been connected to the DC-Bus, allowing
to reach optimal performance during lifting and traction operations.
The ICE works close to its maximum efficiency point, supplying an almost continuous power to the net, while
the SuperCapacitor provides the peak power.

Case Study #1 : CONTAINER FORKLIFT
TARGET ACHIEVED :
ICE size reduced FROM 5.0L to 3.0L
Overall machine weight reduction of 10%
Homologation and certification costs reduced, as the new
machine has a lower class than the previous one, despite
lifting capability of 15 tons is kept
Fuel consumption reduced by 50%
Payback time 1.5 year

Case Study #2 : HYBRID COMMERCIAL VEHICLE
APPLICATION :
Development of a SuperCapacitor based storage system to be connected in the hybrid power train of a light
commercial vehicle. Aim is to support peak power demand during hard acceleration and braking phases.
TARGET :
Increase of performance during vehicle
acceleration and braking
Vehicle autonomy extension
Weight reduction
Ni-NaCl battery lifetime increase
Confidential
SOLUTION :
Downsizing the Ni-NaCl battery storage, adding a SuperCapacitor storage connected to the DC-Bus through
a Supercapacitor Management Interface – SMI.
The ICE and the battery storage work on a low-power rating, allowing fuel saving and increasing possible
route length. Vehicle start and stop cycle is managed through SuperCapacitor high-current charge and
discharge dynamics.

Case Study #3 : SPORT CAR START&STOP
APPLICATION :
Development of Start&Stop system for automotive industry. Due to Start&Stop regulations, bigger and
heavier lead acid batteries are needed to achieve performance required.
TARGET :
Reduction of on-board storage size and
weight
Cold cranking
Voltage stabilization
High reliability
Confidential
SOLUTION :
To add a SuperCapacitor storage connected to the 12V net. Supercapacitor has extremely high power
density and low weight, in order to manage the engine cranking.
A reduced lead-acid battery can be installed, to support low power to auxiliary vehicle load, such as
electronics, lightning, pumps …
Stand alone SuperCapacitor or fully integrated hybrid lead acid and SuperCap are developed.
