http://sunrisekfoundation.com/ Glaucoma has become my battle in
life and I have vowed to fight for Kyran and all other children
suffering from this heartbreaking disease. The fear the families
affected are living with every day is what is pushing me to make
sure that the Sunrise K' Foundation will get the attention it so
deserves. ~ Joanna Dogmoch 162 City Rd, London EC1V 2PD +44 (0) 20

3. About us We appreciate your donations to this cause, and
kindly ask you to spread the word about congenital Glaucoma and the
Sunrise K' Foundation so that one day we win the battle against
this debilitating eye disease A non-profit organisation, the
Sunrise K' Foundation was set up in 2013 and registered in Beirut
with the Registrar of Civil Court No 576L2013 and the Registrar of
Ministry of Interior Foundation No 4214L2013. The two primary goals
are to raise awareness of glaucoma in children, and to raise funds
to help London's Moorfields Eye Hospital, continue its excellent
research and support under the leadership of the acclaimed eye
expert Professor Sir Peng Tee Kaw. Congenital or Infantile glaucoma
can affect children, without warning, from birth. Early diagnosis
is key to treating the disease, although currently there is no
known cure. Everyday symptoms such as watery eyes, excessive
tearing, redness and enlarged pupil size are often misattributed
and thought harmless. Yet left untreated or caught too late, the
onset of glaucoma can cause incremental deterioration of a child's
eyesight, with complete loss of vision. Up to 25% of children
diagnosed with congenital glaucoma will go blind before they reach
adulthood. Our Mission DONATE NOW
4. About Childhood Glaucoma Childhood glaucoma, affecting 1 in
10,000 children, is one of the leading causes of childhood
blindness. The condition occurs when a child's optic nerve (the
nerve that connects the brain and the eye) is damaged. The disease
can be present at birth or diagnosed any time during childhood. The
eyeball is an incredibly complex organ. A fluid called aqueous
humour nourishes the eyeball and is secreted by a tissue called the
ciliary body. Unlike tears, this fluid leaves the eye via the
trabecular meshwork at the back of the eye. The job of the optic
nerve is to carry sight signals to the brain, so when it is
damaged, irreparable sight loss occurs. Glaucoma is the medical
name for this condition.
5. Research Department Moorfields treats a significant number
of patients in the UK and from the Middle East which was the
rationale behind the opening of Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai in
July 2007. By establishing a branch in Dubai, the hospital is able
to offer its services locally. This new branch of Moorfields offers
a wide range of ophthalmic services to patients in the Middle East
and beyond. It also works in conjunction with local partners as
well as with Moorfields in London, to contribute to research and
teaching in the region. The research mission of Moorfields Eye
Hospital and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology is to execute the
best fundamental and clinical research for the benefit of those
with or at risk of eye and related systemic disease. Together they
have delivered some of the most important breakthroughs and
discoveries in ophthalmology. These include the development of the
world's first gene therapy for inherited eye disease, novel
surgical techniques and anti-scarring treatments for glaucoma
surgery, and the development of treatments for age-related macular
degeneration using stem cell technology. Director of Research and
Development at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Professor Sir Peng Tee Khaw
is a globally renowned eye expert who was recently awarded a
knighthood for services to ophthalmology.
6. The Sunrise K' Foundation's regular galas and fundraising
events are designed to bring together people afflicted by childhood
glaucoma. The hope is that knowledge and stories can be shared,
connections can be made and vital funds can be raised. 2014
Following the success of the 2013 edition, the Global Gift Gala
returns to the United Arab Emirates of Dubai. Website Link
