Down-stand Raft FoundationRAFT FOUNDATION

A raft foundation is a continuous foundation in two directions,usually covering an area equal to or greater than the base are-a of the structure which it carries.

There’s 3 kinds of raft foundation : plain slab raft,slab and beam raft,cellular raft

But why down-stand beam and slab raft foundation ?It is suitable for lightly loaded structures on low bea-ring capacity ground. Compare to up-stand one, it re-quires much less excavation.

The movable plate of the pin joint above the footing is not aligned to any axis plate to prevent collapse

The pin joint can be used to build up spanningmembers into grid structure, such as trusses andgirders, which become a framework of struts andties, making large, relatively light, spanning framesfor longer spans.It allows rotation, do not transfer bending, whilefixed or rigid joint do redistribute bending stress intothe support.It avoids deformation of structure after shocking. Inthe case of Sunny Bay Station, it allows themovement along one direction.

Natural Ventilation with Water mist cooling systemThe water mist cooling system not only produce mist for instant cooling effect for the visitors,but helps cooling the bottom. On the other hand, the top of the envelope is heat up by the sunlight.As a result, air pressure difference increase within the envelope and achieve better natural ventilation.
