Burnett (seven innings) worked around five walks as Pittsburgh beat the Chicago Cubs 3-0; Sean O'Sullivan (six innings) pitched Philadelphia over Arizona 6-0 for his first big league win since May 12, 2011; Mike Bolsinger (six innings) helped the Los Angeles Dodgers beat Colorado 1-0; and James Paxton (eight innings) pitched Seattle over the Boston Red Sox 5-0. The record of eight shutouts was set on June 4, 1972, according to STATS, when Oakland's Catfish Hunter, Detroit's Tom Timmermann, Boston's John Curtis and Houston's Don Wilson all pitched complete-game blankings. The only other days with seven shutouts were Sept. 7, 1908; Aug. 23, 1942; May 14, 1944; May 24, 1964; Aug. 26, 1968; Sept. 5, 2006; and July 27, 2013, STATS said.
