Matthew 18:1-4 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 And calling
to him a child, he put him in the midst of them 3 and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like
children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in
the kingdom of heaven.
Scripture Readings ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 Peter 5:6-11 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt
you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful.
Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your
faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the
world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in
Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever.
Amen.
Song Lyrics ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Verse 1:
Be still my soul the Lord is on thy side
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain
Leave to thy God to order and provide
In ev'ry change He faithful will remain
Be still my soul thy best thy heav'nly friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end
Verse 2:
Be still my soul thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past
Thy hope thy confidence let nothing shake
All now mysterious shall be bright at last
Be still my soul the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below
Chorus:
In You I rest in You I find my hope
In You I trust
You never let me go
I place my life within Your hands alone
Be still my soul
Verse 3:
Be still my soul the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord
When disappointment grief and fear are gone
Sorrow forgot Love's purest joys restored
Be still my soul when change and tears are past
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last

Verse 1:
Come behold the wondrous mystery In the dawning of the King
He the theme of heaven's praises
Robed in frail humanity
In our longing in our darkness Now the light of life has come
Look to Christ who condescended
Took on flesh to ransom us
Verse 2:
Come behold the wondrous mystery
He the perfect Son of Man In His living in His suff'ring
Never trace nor stain of sin
See the true and better Adam
Come to save the hell-bound man Christ the great and sure fulfillment
Of the law in Him we stand
Verse 3: Come behold the wondrous mystery
Christ the Lord upon the tree
In the stead of ruined sinners
Hangs the Lamb in victory
See the price of our redemption
See the Father's plan unfold
Bringing many sons to glory Grace unmeasured love untold
Verse 4:
Come behold the wondrous mystery Slain by death the God of life
But no grave Could e'er restrain Him
Praise the Lord He is alive
What a foretaste of deliverance How unwavering our hope
Christ in power resurrected
As we will be when He comes
Verse 1:
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in thee; let the water and the blood,
from thy wounded side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure;
save from wrath and make me pure.
Verse 2:
Not the labors of my hands
can fulfill thy law's demands; could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears forever flow,
all could never sin atone; thou must save, and thou alone.
Verse 3:
Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to thy cross I cling;
naked, come to thee for dress;
helpless, look to thee for grace;
foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.
Verse 4:
While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyes shall close in death,
when I soar to worlds unknown,
see thee on thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in thee.

Come ye sinners
Poor and needy

You will never come at all
Verse 4: View him prostrate in the garden

Venture wholly
Let no other trust intrude

Tho' Satan should buffet, Tho' trials should come Let this blest assurance control
That Christ hath regarded my helpless estate
And hath shed His own blood for my soul

My sin, O the bliss of this glorious tho't
My sin, not in part but the whole
Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!

And Lord haste the day when the faith shall be sight The clouds be rolled back as a scroll
The trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend
Even so, it is well with my soul

Praying with First Baptist Church A Prayer Guide for the week of July 5
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Prayer of the week:
Consider using the Apostle Paul’s prayer from the book of Colossians 1:9 as a springboard for your own prayer
time this week. If you’re praying through the church directory, this is a great prayer to use as you pray for your
church family this week.
“we have not ceased to pray for you,
asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We recognize our need for God’s help in all the areas of our lives. The categories and requests listed below are
intentional ways to pray for each other as a church family. For help in knowing how and what to pray for, look up
the Scripture included with each item.
Ongoing prayer items in the life of our church:
• Pray for opportunities and boldness to share the gospel with friends, family, co-workers (Matt. 28:19)
• Pray for conversions (John 3:3, Acts 16:14)
• Pray for the preaching of God’s word – for faithfulness, fruitfulness, and God’s glory (2 Tim. 4:2, 1 Cor. 2:4-5,
Isa. 55:10-11)
• Pray for the children of our church to hear and understand the gospel and be saved (Luke 8:8)
• Pray for increased one to one discipleship relationships in our church family (Matt. 28:19-20)
• Pray for unity in our diversity both on Sunday and through the week (Rom. 15:13, Eph. 4:2-3)
• Pray for continued growth and joy in the gospel (1 Cor. 15:1-5, 2 Pet. 1:12)
• Pray for growth in holiness, hatred of sin and growth in humility (Prov. 8:13, 1 Pet. 1:14-16)
• Pray for honest, loving relationships in our church (Col. 3:12-13, James 5:16)
• Pray for families: marriages to thrive, parents to teach/love/discipline carefully, and children to obey (Eph.
5:22-6:4)
• Pray that giving would be faithful, joyful, consistent, and sacrificial (2 Cor. 8:9)
Prayer items outside our church:
• Pray for hope and healing in our nation as we lament and grieve over recent effects of injustice and racism.
(Prov 6:16-19; Ps 77:1-3)
• Pray that God would help government leaders locally and nationally to make wise decisions going forward
that will help protect all people from evil and unjust suffering. (1 Tim. 2:1-2, Rom. 13:1-7)
7
• Pray for the safety and good health of medical personnel, first responders, and those working on the front
lines of contact with those who are suffering with coronavirus.
• Pray that God would provide relief for those suffering from the effects of the virus throughout the world, and
that He would draw people to His Word and to salvation. (Ps. 139:23-24)
• Pray for fruitful ministry in other gospel-proclaiming churches in our area even as we are unable to gather to-
gether for public worship. (Rom. 15:20, 1 Cor. 16:1-3, Matt. 28:19-20)
• Pray for our missionary partners around the world and especially those we are directly involved with: Mack
and LeAnn Stiles (Central Asia), Daniel and Brandi Spandler-Davison (East Asia), and Dave and JoAnn Brown
(Guatemala). Pray that the gospel would flourish and churches would be planted and strengthened through
their work. Pray God would strengthen their faith and supply their needs. (Ps 93:4, Col. 1:5-6, 1 Pet. 4:12-17)
Particular prayer items in the life of our church:
• As we lament the many harsh realities occurring throughout our country pray that God would grant us wis-
dom to know how to best glorify Him and to love one another well during this time. (Mt. 22:36-40)
• Pray that God would guard our church from fear, anxiety, and disunity. Pray that we would trust that God is
good and be assured that He is in control. (Mt. 14:22-36)
• Pray that God would stir our hearts to hope in His glorious return and our place with Him in the New Heaven
and New Earth where sickness shall be no more. (Rev. 21:1-4)
• Praise God for the many High School graduates in our church family who have finished well in this tumultuous
season. See the video on the church website to see what they’re all up to after graduation.

A Note of Thanks:
To my church family: I want to thank each and every one of you for your love, kindness, and caring dur-ing my time of bereavement. My husband, Harold, loved each of you, and as his mind deteriorated he remembered many of you. Again, thank you in every way that you touched our hearts. — Linda Sye
