Fr. Tom’s Desk Wow. The year is already 5 months old. We come to May with all of its activities. First Holy Communions, Prom, Mothers Day, MN Fishing Opener, graduations and Memorial Day Weekend - the official start of Minnesota summer season. May is also a month especially dedicated to the Blessed Mother. Let us pray that through her intercessions our parishes will continue to be places where God’s mercy and love are experienced. It has been one year since my amputation. I continue to mend and adjust to life with a prosthetic foot. We’re still attempting to get the correct fit to alleviate the irritation and pain that I sometimes experience, especially at the end of the day. Thank you for your continued care and prayers on my behalf. I am grateful for your support. As you’ve seen in the bulletin, the Parish Nursing Program is beginning. Diane Brophy and Tiffany Kimball are the organizers. They are reaching out to folks to serve as board members to help guide this ministry. This is an outreach ministry program - an extension of my office as pastor. Stay tuned to future announcements of the ‘how + what’ of their ministry. Please pray for them and offer your support.

Oil For Your Lamp Eight years ago John Muller was ordained to the Order of Deacons. The lamps of St. Mary’s and St. Peter’s began to burn brighter with his ordination. His deep prayer life, which he shared with his wife Mary Ann, began to help carry our parishes in our times of darkness and joy. His willingness to shoulder the burden of service imposed by Bishop Hoeppner was carried without complaint. The wake services and funerals he celebrated brought comfort to many families. The baptisms and weddings he witnessed became true Sacraments of love and initiation into the faith of the Church. There is no doubt that his being a deacon has inspired others to a vocation of service. Their devotion to the Blessed Sacrament will be missed. As “transplants” the Muller’s fit in well with the “natives” of Two Inlets. They will be greatly missed by both parishes. You see, Bishop Hoeppner assigned Deacon John to both parishes a couple years ago, and I was also assigned to both parishes when I was ordained. I will do the best I can to keep going the programs that Deacon John has begun. With the help of the Holy Spirit and determined parishioners, the two parishes will continue to burn brightly. May God continue to Bless Deacon John and Mary Ann Muller, and may their lamps be always filled with the oil of peace and gladness. To keep a lamp burning, we have to keep putting oil in it. (Blessed, soon-to-be-Saint, Mother Theresa)
