Adult Religious Education &

Saint Peter Catholic School

On behalf of the less fortunate in our community, the St. Vincent de Paul Society gives a hearty Thank You to the Saint Peter Catholic School students, teachers and parents for their efforts and major contribution of

canned goods during Catholic Schools Week.

Your items will be distributed to the poor during February, March and April. Your hard work and

generosity is an example for us all.

Ash Wednesday Masses

7:15 am, 9:00 am, 12:10 pm, 6:30 pm

Students from Saint Peter Catholic School will be attending the 9:00 am Mass

Abstinence -- Catholics 14 and older are bound to the obligation of abstinence. Abstinence is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and on ALL Fridays of Lent. On days of abstinence, meat may not be used at all.

Fast -- Catholics 18 to 60 are bound to the obligation of fasting.

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the days of fasting. On these

days, only one full meal is allowed. . In view of the significance of Ash

Wednesday, although it is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation, the obligation of

fast and abstinence must naturally be the priority in the Catholic community.

TEMPORARY SUSPENSION ON DISTRIBUTION OF PRECIOUS BLOOD Because of the rather widespread influenza threat, we are suspending physical contact during the Sign of Peace as well as

reception of the Precious Blood until further notice.

2018 Bishop’s Annual Appeal

DIOCESE OF RALEIGH

This year’s theme is “Instruments of God’s Service”

Charity Evangelization Worship

This theme serves as a reminder to imitate God’s mercy by providing love and support to those in need. Over 30 ministries

are supported by the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, and we invite you to explore the BAA site to learn more about the impact of

your generosity to the campaign. You may have already

received information in the mail. The generosity of others, through gifts to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, has positively

transformed the lives of many.

You may view the entire list on the Diocese of Raleigh website:

http://dioceseofraleigh.org

Please return your pledge/gift to the office or place in the

collection basket. If you did not receive your envelope, there will be in the pews and in the Narthex (Atrium)

It is important that we achieve our goal! Our Parish goal this year is $124, 674

Our Parish receives 100% back over our goal.

Please be reminded that the Blessed Sacrament is re-

served in our Church. It is customary & appropriate to genuflect when entering the pew and leaving the pew.

One genuflects towards the Tabernacle. One should head bow when approaching the Altar or Sanctuary area (ex: Lector, Extraordinary Ministers, & receiving Communion). Conversation before or during the Divine Liturgy is neither necessary nor acceptable, it should take place outside the Church proper. Please wait until you are in the Narthex.

PERPETUAL ADORATION OF OUR LORD And You!

Mark:1, 29-39 ... "he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed...

Folks, come to the parish "deserted place". Commit to Jesus for 12 hours for the Lent and Easter Seasons.: 12 weeks at one hour a

week. Sit face to face and talk to God about your joys, worries, needs. Give your love and receive LOVE.

Renewal of Marriage Vows CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 17 COUPLES

They will be CELEBRATING their 5-year increment anniversary in 2018 and enjoyed a special evening at Mass and dinner on Saturday. We wish you con-tinued joy and love. This has been a tradition on our church for over 25

years and is one of our happiest times shared.

Our special thanks to Father Jim and the many volunteers who prepared for the Liturgy of Renewal of Vows, worked on reservations, programs, name tags, put up the wedding pictures, brought music to the evening, cooked such a delicious dinner ,and served all our honored couples. God bless you all!

Lent begins February14,

Ash Wednesday! It's a time of simplicity, setting aside distractions, and diversions drawing back to the basics:

prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

We are called not just to abstain from sin during Lent, but to true conversion of our hearts and minds as

followers of Jesus Christ. The giving of ourselves in the midst of suffering and self-denial brings us closer to loving like Christ, who suffered and poured himself

out unconditionally on the cross for all of us.

Lent is a journey through the desert to the foot of the cross on Good Friday, as we seek Him out, ask His help, join in His suffering, and learn to love like Him.

Let us together enter into Lent with our eyes fixed on Easter.

In praying the stations, we imagine ourselves walking with Jesus on this journey. We then link our reflection to whatever is going on in our lives today. On our journey we experience both joy, days of stress, and possibly terrible suffering. As members of families and communities, we are witnesses to the joys and sufferings of others. Thinking of Jesus on the way to his unjust execution can lead to reflection on his care for the millions throughout the world who lack basic human needs such as clean water, sufficient food, or fundamental human rights.
