TODAY’S GOSPEL: Luke 13:1-9 There were some present at that very time who told him of the

Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And he answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered thus? I tell you. No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you. No; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."

And he told this parable: "A man had a fig tree planted in his vine-yard; and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. And he said to the vinedresser, 'Lo, these three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down; why should it use up the ground?' And he answered him, 'Let it alone, sir, this year also, till I dig about it and put on manure. And if it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.'"

TONIGHT AT 5:00 PM BAKU MEMORIAL MONUMENT FUNDRAISER

Allegro Restaurant 7295 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield

Donation: $75.00 Includes authentic Armenian Cuisine and music by Violinist Hary

Hovakimian and Alex Mazmanian with vocals by Tamar

For tickets, please see David Terzibashian in the church lobby.

We thank Gary Mazmanian for hosting this fundraising event at his res-taurant and we appeal to you to participate and help in raising the nec-essary funding of $35,000.00 to complete our task and erect this memo-rial monument recognizing the forgotten suffering of our Armenian brothers and sisters in Baku and Sumgait. The Armenian Genocide of 1915 has been recognized with a monument on our campus remember-ing the 1.5 million who perished. Likewise, it is incumbent upon us to commemorate this more recent oppression and the pogroms that de-stroyed the lives of over 200,000 peace-loving Armenians living in Azer-baijan who suffered great loss of life from 1988-1991. With the launching of our community appeal, all profits from this fund-

raising event will go toward the Baku Memorial Monument.

A Family Christmas Worship Christmas Eve, December 24, 2011

Carols and Lections at 5: 00 pm This year as Christmas Eve comes on Saturday, there will be a special service held early enough to allow even our young children to attend with their families. Deacon Rubik Mailian and Anita Arslanian have been teaching our Church School students Christmas songs which the children will sing during worship. Our older youth will offer the readings and relate the Christmas Story - The Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Yuletide refreshments in the lobby at 6:00 pm

Mark your calendars noting the time of worship and plan to attend as a family and celebrate together.

Sunday Offering / Collection The offertory - your monetary donation given each week dur-ing the Divine Liturgy - will be hereafter taken by the Parish Council and Ushers just prior to the singing of Der Voghormia. Our giving to the Lord and His Church is an expression of gratitude and thanksgiving for the many good works and blessings we receive in His name. Time and talent is one way we give to glorify God and help build up His church, but also our love is expressed through our donations, howev-er great or humble to assure that the mission of His church continues. After the curtain closes for your personal time of prayer and reflection, the offertory will take place; then with thanksgiving we in-vite you all to kneel and sing Der Voghormia with the choir.

V.A. Approves Armenian Cross for Vets' Graves

The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs re-cently approved the Armenian cross as an offi-cial “Emblem of Belief” to mark the graves of Armenian-American veterans. The effort was led by the family of the late Shavasp Hanesian of Niagara Falls, NY, who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. To date the Department of Veteran Affairs has approved more than 45 “Emblems of Belief.” The emblems representing the religious back-ground of the veteran are installed at grave sites by cemetery officials. Families of deceased Armenian-American vet-erans who would like to place the Armenian cross on the graves of their loved ones should contact [email protected] to obtain an application.
