ROOF PROJECT

The church roof at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is at the end of its life... It seems that, in its 86 year old life, the roof has had two major repairs; over the years tiles have been changed and flashing fixed, but most of the tiles are the original tiles!

After investigation into the options, with the help of the Archdiocesan Office of Property Management, the most economical solution is to replace the entire roof. The underlayment is causing most of the problems as it is suffering from dry rot and no longer completely waterproof. The valleys between the nave and the transept are also leaking.

After a meeting of our Parish Finance Council, and in cooperation with the Archdiocesan Office of Property Management, we have now selected the type of roof that will be installed: a Villa tile style roof. It will look similar to the current Spanish tile roof, but made of galvanized metal coated with ceramic chips. This product comes with a 50 year warranty and can last many more decades.

After having received estimates from four different contractors, we have now signed a contract. The total cost of the roof replacement will be $260,000.

Work has begun! On Tuesday June 25, the workers brought the equipment and on June 26 started to work on the roof. We will continue informing you about this Capi-tal Project, and we thank you for your faithful support!
