Stadium orientation is important when it comes to outdoor stadium events such as football because of the sun. A north-south orientation is the best way to avoid any problems with the sun, and many NCAA Division 1 stadiums are built this way. It is consistent that most every stadium is built in such a way to avoid sun problems impacting the game on the field.
