    Thesewere the words spoken by Del E. Webb,president of the Del E. Webb Corporation, whomade his dream of a retirementcommunity, ful lofattractive homes and endless facilities for recreationaland creativeactivity,arealityfor people 50yearsor older.

    While Sun City is stil l a young community, itsstory of home construction is as amazing as itsgrowth.

    When Mr. and Mrs. SeniorCitizenare ready tomove into their new home they w i l l discover thatan entire neighborhood is completed and ready forother new home owners to move in. Yet they areunaware of the tremendous organization responsible for theplanningandbuildingof a single home.

    Building housesdemandsspecific planning. Beforea developer begins to bui ld the land must besurveyed, and maps must be drafted showing theboundaries of theareato be developed and the lotsspecifically measured for each home. T. E. Breen,vice president and head of the housingdivisionofthe Del E. Webb Development Company, and ahost of other top rankingofficials w i t h in the Webborganization, spend monthscarefully planning anddiscussing the complexprocessof housing development before putting any venture intoexecution.

    DIGGER prepares ditches for concrete foundations to bepoured for each home.

    CONCRETE is poured and leveled Into the ditches toform a solid foundation base for the homes. Workmenfollow the truck leveling the wet concrete as It pours thefoundation perimeter.

    PLUMBING is tested after the base has been filled in andsmoothed for the final pouring of the floor. SPECIAL machinery smooths the large floor areas.

    EXTERIOR walls are filled with specially-prepared insulation at the window and roof levels.

    TRUSSES spanning the width of the exterior walls areplaced and erected before sheathing.

    SKILLEDworkmen spread the mortar and level the blocksfor the exterior walls. FINISHEDcarpentry adds a finishing touch to the interiorof the homes.
