West End Show Success Sunday 19th April

It was a fantasticShow at Her Majestys Theatre in the West End of London last Sun-

day for those 8-17s who chose to be involved. For many of the youngsters this wastheir first time in London and there were tears at the end of the day from some as theyhad enjoyed it so much they didnt want to leave! They met youngsters from all overthe country who were also performing. A new pop group called Hola performed amini-rock concert before rehearsals began onstage - the crowd of youngsters went wildin the stalls. It was then it was time for HF youngsters to go up to the stage where theygave a fantastic performance fromMamma Mia! and Greaseand the crowd really

warmed to the heartfelt numbers. It was definitely an amazing, heart-stopping day thatno-one who was involved will forget. We will be able to offer this opportunity EVERYyear so watch this space for more details.

All below classes will replace usual lessons on the show weekend:

    Friday 3rd July

Friday evening rehearsal is a possibility for all schools. This will be a last minute request depending upon

the quality of all youngsters term attendance and work, so we are hoping you can keep between 6pm and

    9pm free that evening.

    Saturday 5th July Performance

Rehearsals before the show will take place for ALL HF students at The Space, The Wyvern Theatre, Swin-

don. For directions please visit........Please see page three for rehearsal times.

In the show MORIG youngsters will rehearse with props but OT COSTUMES. Costumes are to

be worn FOR THE SHOW I AFTEROO.

Youngsters may wear make-up if wished but this not compulsory if make-up is worn please put it on

your child at home before attending the show. Please ensure hair is sprayed, tied and clipped SE-

CURLY away from the face for the show in any style (unless we specifically request a particular style

for your child in term time).

This year the 4 to 17s groups will be taking Musical Theatre Examinations.

Youngsters will never take the same exam twice. A written report will be given with an indi-

vidually named certificate and a group will be awarded- Fail, Pass, Merit or Distinction (no

groups have ever failed with us!) in September. They will perform a drama, dance, singingpiece within their usual class group of 15-20 minutes each (strict time limit).

In all instances the examiner sits at a central table within the audience. This means that young-

sters feel as though they are performing without the scrutiny of an examiner in their view. The 4 to 7s will most likely not be

aware of the examiners presence. Trinity Guildhall College London is a government accredited and QCA approved exami-

nation board (one of the largest of its kind in the country). These exams help pupils and parents to benchmark the perform-ance levels of their youngsters combined with the standards of the Hampstead Factory teaching. Any exams of this kind help

youngsters to work towards a set standard and results are useful when applying for colleges/universities or any other form of

higher education, as government accredited/QCA results are taken into consideration on UCAS forms.

The presentation for each group will consist of a set piece in drama, one in dance, one in singing. Trinity requirements for

each exam are specific in pupil numbers and time limits and so presenting a complete musical from start to finish is not pos-sible (this happens in the autumn term). Candidates will be examined as a group (not individually). Each groups award will

be listed as soon as we receive it on our website

(www.thehampsteadfactory.co.uk) and in the autumn Hampstead

Factory newsletter in September. Each student will receive their

Trinity certificate (individually named) with a written report fromtheir drama teacher on the first day back in the autumn term.

private/shared Trinity Musical Theatre pupils are examined on

the same day as the groups.

Full Trinity reports from the examiner can be viewed

online usually a fortnight after the show and hard copies

will be given out along with certificates in the first twoweeks of the Autumn 09 term.
