Apply for Admission (Already applied? Skip to Step 2)Submit an Application for Admission online at www.glenoaks.edu

Applying online is easy and free. It’s helpful to know your social security number for purposes of financial aid. If you’d rather not provide it, please access the PDF of our paper application on our site.

2. Apply for Financial Aid. Begin by heading to FAFSA.gov to submit this free

application. The sooner you submit your FAFSA the more likely your funding will be available to you! School Code: 002263

Questions? Contact the Financial Aid Office at: 269-294-4260.

3. Schedule an appointment for the placement test.

Schedule a placement test by calling the Tutoring and Testing Center at 269-294-4270. You will need a PICTURE ID!

Students without scores on file will NOT be able to register for courses. Those with qualifying ACT/SAT scores or a prior degree can skip this step. Advisors are always available to interpret your scores, help you clarify your goals, and select proper courses for your program. You will not be registered before completing step 5.

4. Request official copies of transcripts to be sent directly to the Glen Oaks Admissions Office.

Official transcripts from high school, adult education, GED, and college MUST be mailed from the school/organization directly or sent electronically through Parchment/Docufide services.

High school transcripts are not official until after your graduation date and that date must be published on the transcript.

5. Sign-up and attend New Student Orientation.

You will need to sign up for an on campus orientation by clicking on “Registration for New Student Orientation” under the Admissions tab on the GOCC website. Students seeking classes only online may contact Admissions for further instructions.

During orientation you will learn about policies and procedures and campus resources/organizations, how to log-in to the Viking Zone, and meet one on one with Advising, Financial Aid, the Cashier, and Student Success Coaches. Also, learn how to pay for classes and/or set up your payment plan.

This is a MANDATORY step to getting registered for classes!

6. Purchase textbooks. Visit The Oak Store’s web page, at shopglenoaks.

com or contact the Bookstore at 269-294-4304.

* New students are not able to complete orientation or register within three days before the start of a semester.

Check out the Viking Zone (top of Glen Oaks homepage) for instructions on how to access your student portal (WebAdvisor).

COLLEGE GUEST STUDENTS: Please do not register for orientation; contact Admissions for further instructions.

GENERAL INFORMATIONAll new students are required to attend New Student Orientation and complete ACCUPLACER testing. New students will not be allowed to register for classes three business days prior to the first day of class. Current and former students in good standing may register through the start of classes.

You are required to meet with an academic advisor if:

• You want to register for more than 18 credithours.

• You are on academic intervention, restriction orsuspension.

Academic advisors are available to help you with:

• Education planning

• Transfer planning and college selection

• Goal setting

• Career path

• International students

• Disability

• Special occupational program

• TRIO program

PREREQUISITESStudents must complete prerequisites as required before enrolling in some courses. Contact your academic advisor for assistance.

Waitlist If a course is full, students can be added to a waitlist. If a spot becomes available, the first student on the waitlist will be notified via the student’s Glen Oaks email alerting student of the deadline date by which he/she must register for the class. After the date expires, the seat will be offered to subsequent students on the list.

Approximately two weeks before the term starts, the Waitlist option will not be available. Registration will then be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Schedule AdjustmentDuring the first week of the term, students can adjust their schedules if needed. After the first week and before the 100 percent refund date, a student must obtain permission from the dean of academics to add a class.

Drops from ClassesDropping a class during the refund/schedule adjustment period means the student no longer wishes to attend the class and wants to receive a refund. The drop can be done online through WebAdvisor and the drop will not be transcripted on the student’s record.

Withdrawal from ClassesAfter the refund period, students may withdraw from classes online through WebAdvisor on or before the last day for withdrawal. (See Academic Calendar information.) A “W” grade will be issued. Students cannot withdraw from all of their classes online. They are required to do a Student Withdrawal Survey in Student Services indicating their reasons for completely withdrawing. After filling out a withdrawal form, they will be withdrawn from their last class.

Payment in full for tuition & fees, enrollment in a payment plan, or third party authorization form must be completed within 48 hours of registration. By registering the student agrees to be financially accountable for all fees, fines, bookstore charges and any schedule changes that result in a balance due.

PAYMENT OF FEES/PROMISE TO PAYI understand that when I register for any class at Glen Oaks Community College (GOCC) or receive any service from GOCC I accept full responsibility to pay all tuition, fees and other associated costs assessed as a result of my registration and/or receipt of services, and I promise to pay for all assessed tuition, fees and other associated costs by the published or assigned due date.

I understand that administrative, clerical or technical billing errors do not absolve me of my financial responsibility to pay the correct amount of tuition, fees and other associated financial obligations assessed as a result of my registration at GOCC. I understand and agree that if I drop or withdraw from some or all of the classes for which I register after the refund deadline, I will be responsible for paying all or a portion of tuition and fees in accordance with the tuition refund schedule. I have read the terms and conditions of the tuition refund schedule and understand those terms are incorporated herein by reference. I further understand that my failure to attend class or receive a bill does not absolve me of my financial responsibility as described above.

FINANCIAL AIDI understand that aid described as “estimated” on my Financial Aid Award does not represent actual or guaranteed payment, but is an estimate of the aid I may receive if I meet all requirements stipulated by that aid program. I understand that my Financial Aid Award is contingent upon my continued enrollment and attendance in each class upon which my financial aid eligibility was calculated. If I drop any class before completion, I understand that my financial aid eligibility may decrease and some or all of the financial aid awarded to me may be revoked. I understand that the financial aid cannot be awarded for classes that do not count toward my degree and/or certificate requirements. If some or all of my financial aid is revoked because I dropped or failed to attend class, I agree to repay all revoked aid that was disbursed to my student account and resulted in a credit balance that was refunded to me. I agree to allow any financial aid I receive to be used to pay any and all charges assessed to my student account at GOCC such as tuition, fees, fines, bookstore charges, or any other amount, in accordance with the terms of the aid.

DELINQUENT ACCOUNT/COLLECTIONBusiness Office Hold: I understand and agree that if I fail to pay my student account balance or any monies due to GOCC by the scheduled due date, GOCC will place a Business Office hold on my student account, preventing me from registering for future classes, obtaining an official transcript, or receiving a diploma.

Collection: I understand and accept that if I fail to pay my student account balance or any monies due to GOCC by the scheduled due date, GOCC may refer my delinquent account to a collection agency. I further understand that I am responsible for paying the collection agency fee with all costs and expenses, including attorney fees, necessary for the collection of my delinquent student account. Finally, I understand that my delinquent student account may be reported to one or more of the national credit bureaus.

Consent: I authorize GOCC and its agents and contractors to contact me at my current and any future phone number(s), email address(es) or wireless device(s) regarding my delinquent student account(s)/loan(s) or any other debt I owe to GOCC. I authorize GOCC and its agents and contractors to use automated telephone dialing equipment, artificial or pre-recorded voice or text messages, and personal calls and emails in their efforts to contact me. Furthermore, I understand that I may withdraw my consent to call my phone numbers(s), cellular or landline, by submitting my request in writing to the applicable contractor or agent contacting me on behalf of GOCC. I understand and agree that I am responsible for keeping GOCC records up to date with my current physical addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers.

ENTIRE AGREEMENTThis agreement supersedes all prior understandings, representations, negotiations and correspondence between the student and GOCC, constitutes the entire agreement between the parties with respect to the matters described, and shall not be modified or affected by any course of dealing or course of performance. This agreement may be modified by GOCC if the modification is signed by me. Any modification is specifically limited to those policies and/or terms addressed in the modification.

New Student Enrollment PolicyNew students to the College are now limited to the date of registration/entry to three (3) business days prior to the first day of classes beginning of each semester/accelerated semester. New students are first-time GOCC students (including former dual-enrolled students), returning students who have not attended GOCC for more than three years, college guest students, and transfer students.

This policy became effective Winter 2016. New students who register late historically do not perform well academically, and this initiative is intended to ensure the students’ success. Students will be advised of their option for attendance which includes registering for half-semester courses which begin at the mid-way point of the given semester as appropriate or to prepare to enroll the following semester. Students do have an appeal process through the dean of academics and extended learning to request to be allowed to register later based on special circumstances. Students with special circumstances should complete the “Late Registration Petition” form, located on-line and in the Student Services area.
