Kingswood dinner cabaret nights return August 26-27 with Summer Swing, an evening featuring the Atlanta Swing

Orchestra, Stage II’s finest vocalists and the culinary magic of Chef Steve Mayer. The evening benefits the Youth

Ministry of Kingswood United Methodist.

The 18-piece Atlanta Swing Orchestra performs in the tradition of the great touring bands of Glenn Miller, Count

Basie, Les Brown and others. They bring the best of the great American songbook of popular show and dance tunes to new audiences, helping insure that a uniquely American musical style and tradition carries into the new millennium.

Director Greg McLean, trumpeter, composer and arranger, is an Associate Professor of Music at Georgia State University and one of Atlanta’s most versatile musicians. To Kingswood’s delight, the band rehearses weekly at

Kingswood, filling the halls with that wonderful swing sound.

Stage II at Kingswood, part of the Worship Arts program at Kingswood and under the leadership of Dennis Lewallen and William Mahlandt, has provided Kingswood and the Dunwoody community with a long line of musical and theatre

events including the bi-annual A Little Knight Music productions—a Renaissance Christmas Feast, which celebrates the

season with Monty Python-esque fun combined with a delicious banquet prepared and served in the style of an old English royal court. The 5th Knight Music event is scheduled for December 9-10.

The centerpiece of the evening is Steve Mayer’s culinary magic. Steve is a former Executive Chef with over thirty

years’ experience in the restaurant business, beginning at age 12 in his grandfather’s Italian restaurant. After 2 years at Syracuse University and 8 years of cooking, he followed his passion to the International Culinary College of

Baltimore. He has served as chef for 10 different restaurants including the Award winning Sam & Harry’s Steakhouse;

Clyde’s Restaurant Group in Washington, DC; the Smolenski’s Group in London, UK; the W Hotel; and the Wrecking Bar Brewpub here in Atlanta. Chef Mayer’s menu for our summer fiesta is:

Sangria Punch (non-alcoholic)

Manchengo Cheese, Serrano Ham, and Apples

Chilled Gazpacho Soup

Saffron Paella

with chorizo sausage, chicken, shrimp, mussels, and calamari

Valencia Orange Flan

with coffee

Serving you skillfully and enthusiastically will be members of the Kingswood Youth Ministry, directed by Dondra

Davis, which offers students grades 6-12 a full program of study, service opportunities and faith-building experiences and challenges throughout the year. All proceeds from Summer Swing go to support this ministry.
