It’s Summer, the hot weather is almost here and so is a fun-filled,

Texas-themed season of activities right here for everyone at the Club.

As we began another successful Byron Nelson Tournament, we started the festive week off with a Memorial Day Weekend bash and kicked-off some exciting new summer programs.

“Celebrate Texas” begins with weekend Dive-In Movies, Chuck Wagon Breakfasts, introductory junior golf &

tennis clinics and cowboy and cowgirl activities by the pool, plus hayrides, S’mores and story time with a real cowboy. Also added to the summer calendar is Texas themed art classes with Createria Studios and animal educational classes with the Dallas Zoo!

Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs and towels to enjoy the outdoor concert featuring the band “Cover Down” at the Annual Independence Festival on July 4th, ending with a spectacular fireworks display at dusk. Check out the “Celebrate Texas” brochure for a full schedule of events!

Also, our brand new, totally redesigned fitness facility has opened. Hopefully everyone has had an opportunity to see and experience the new state-of-the-art equipment and attend one of the innovative new classes that are being offered.

On another note, I would like to take this opportunity to inform everyone about an ongoing effort by the Board and a concerned group of members regarding the quality, offerings, level of service, pricing and customer satisfaction in the Members Lounge.

The Board and members have met with key management personnel to share these ongoing issues and to help develop an action plan. The action plan will be an evolving (dynamic) plan that we will build on as we go. Here are some of the initial items that should be making a quick impact.

• A Saturday and Sunday sandwich buffet with a couple of salads and cup of soup from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m, effective immediately.

• Work with the staff to anticipate golf groups set up policies & procedures and be ready to accommodate their needs.

• Improve communication of Members Lounge issues, offerings and changes through regular mentions in the Sportsline newsletter and emails.

• Continue our search to fill staffing needs in the kitchen.• More management presence on the floor during busy times

which involves modifying managers’ schedules to strengthen coverage.

BOG representative, Bill Bailey offered to be the point person to engage with Julio Garcia, Director of Club Food & Beverage to further define the issues and help develop long lasting solutions.

Some other noteworthy adjustments Julio is working on are to have a grill option for lunch and adding a sandwich bar or soup and salad choices during certain periods as a standard option.

Management has listened and are acting quickly to make positive improvements with all aspects of service in the Members Lounge. We “The Board” will continue to monitor the situation and keep you “our members” informed as we work and strive for a better experience in the Lounge.

Let us know what you think by participating in the member survey! It is very important so please help keep the response rate up and take the survey when it’s available!

If you have any direct questions, feel free to contact me or any of our board or committee members if there is anything at all that we can help you with. My email is [email protected] Sincerely,

BoB SHEMA

T he Survey Committee would like to thank everyone who took the time to provide feedback in the 1st Quarter Member Survey regarding the Club’s

operations. Your responses are reviewed and continually monitored by Club management and the Board to help ensure member satisfaction and improve the member experience.

There were three areas of the survey we paid close attention to: Communications, website effectiveness and Club Billing; Programming and Club Social Events; and the Member Lounge.Communications - overall responses where very positive with room to improve on website effectiveness and club billing. The good news is that the club website is currently being redesigned and the new software for the Resort and Club is schedule for the fall and will include improved Club billing.

Programming - Junior Programming, Club Social Events and Golf Events continue to receive high marks. Group Exercise, Fitness and Tennis trended a little lower this quarter; but with the significant renovations underway in these areas, Club management and the Board believe that these areas will dramatically turn around as the new facilities are opened.

Members Lounge - The survey comments addressing the Member Lounge reinforce that the new menu has been well received and that the staff continue to make a positive difference. This is supported by the increased use by members in the Lounge; however, there are two areas that can be improved; speed of service and value. The importance of improving these areas is a top priority of the Club team and is being addressed.Your feedback continues to be appreciated on the comment cards in the Member Lounge.

This is your Club and through your continued feedback, we will work to make The Sports Club the best it can possibly be for all the members!

Junior Golf Program

Our Junior Golf Program continues to grow at a rapid pace, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! We have made a lot of adjustments leading into our second season to ensure its stability and growth. Currently, we have nearly 70 kids in the program

and we are adding kids every week! We have hired a second Junior Golf Instructor to help assist with the kids along with a PGA/PGM intern. To better acquaint the kids, parents and our staff with each other, we have added quarterly socials for everyone to get together and ask questions about the Junior Program. Food, soft drinks, music and kickball games are a great way to break the ice while having a blast! We want to make sure everyone is looped into everything we have going on, so make sure to opt-in to the Junior Golf email list! To opt-in, please email [email protected].

Our New Staff Members

As mentioned, we hired an additional full time instructor to help keep up with demand. Tim Kunkle joins us from Top Golf Dallas where he was the Direc-tor of Instruction. Tim was trained by Tim Cusick at the Hank Haney Ranch and has been a longtime friend of the Club. We couldn’t be happier to have him! Also, we have an intern join-ing our golf staff from The Sam Houston State University PGA/PGM program. Sean will be with us through Halloween. Both Tim and Sean will be with us during our summer camps as well!

Tim’s Tipsthe question is often asked, ‘how do you start the downswing.’ the answer is ‘from the ground up.’

T he lower body is active as the upper body remains passive.

The shift in the downswing begins as your weight moves from the right side to the left with your feet, knees and then hips. Once the shift to the left has been made, your torso gradually begins to clear or turn as you approach impact. Using your lower body to lead in the downswing allows you to approach the ball from inside the target line at impact. This is the most powerful position you can be in. The result improves your quality of impact, distance and accuracy.

Davis Cup It was an awesome day of tennis at the Annual Sports Club Davis Cup. The weather was perfect and the level of competion was very competitive. The event consisted of four teams; Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and Germany playing in a round robin format for the title. It was great to see all the players dressed up in their country’s colors. In the end, the Cup was won by Spain who defeated Italy in a very close match. Congratulations to Vince Menard, Stan Smith, Kristian Riley, Becky Fuller, Shareen Saad and Tamara Faulkner. A big thanks to Chef Christof for creating such a great lunch menu and also to Jennifer Owen for all her help in making this such a great success!
