Tree City USA Celebration To celebrate Arbor Day, Winskill Fourth Graders teamed up with City staff and Lions Club representative Ruth Rupnow to plant trees in Baus Park. It was a great event to inspire the students to take care of and appreciate the importance of trees.
Thanks again to Winskill Fourth Grade teachers and students for giving back to your community!

Public Works Work is underway on Jefferson, Oak and Walnut Streets with JI Construction from Livingston as the general contractor. The project will be a complete reconstruction with replacement of water, sewer and storm sewer mains, curb and gutter and asphalt pavement and sidewalks. As part of this project 10 homes that have sewer laterals that connect to a sewer main on private property will be connected to a new sewer main in the street. The entire project should be completed in September with tree planting to take place later in the fall. Wastewater: Keep Fats, Oils and Grease Out of the Drain! Fats, oils, grease and food waste cause major problems in our drains and sewers. When disposed of down kitchen sinks, toilets or drains, this waste congeals to form blockages which can lead to flooding and pollution. Fats, oils and grease (FOG) in liquid form may not appear to be harmful but when disposed of into the drainage system they mix with food and other sanitary waste, congeal and harden in the pipe. Over time this grows to form blockages. Using detergents or bleach may have some impact on clearing grease and other debris from the pipework beneath the kitchen sink, but these chemicals have little impact when they become naturally diluted in the sewer network. Gradually the fats, oils and grease build up in the sewer network until blockages occur. This is a significant problem. Please remember to cool it, can it, and trash it!
Brush Pickup Brush and yard waste pickup will be the first Monday of each month April through November. Please place yard waste in open containers or in bags at the curb, not in the roadway or obstructing the sidewalk. Brush should be neatly stacked with butt ends facing one direction.

Grass Clippings Please be courteous and do not blow grass clippings into the streets. The city has started enforcing an ordinance that prohibits depositing grass clippings, leaves and other yard waste on city streets and alleys. There are several reasons grass clippings and other yard waste should not be deposited in the streets including blockage of storm drain inlets and storm sewer debris accumulation that catch in the basin and can cause pipe blockages. Citizens need to take the necessary precautions to make sure that your grass clipping do not end up in the street.
