Summer Classes at MoNaS - Camps run on a Monday through Friday schedule. Workshops run for two afternoons from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. The cost to attend varies, as noted below.June 6 – 10, Science as Art CampGrades 1-2, 9:00am-1:00pm$75Join the museum as we explore the relationship between science, math, and art! Investigate science topics and use what you learn to create a new art project each day.

June 13 – 17, The Chihuahuan Desert CampGrades 3-5, 9:00am-1:00pm$100Explore the desert with the museum as we look at the geology, biology, weather, and cultures of the Chihuahuan Desert. The Chihuahuan Desert is one of four deserts of North America and is home to an incredible variety of plants and animals, wonderful geology, and diverse cultures. Learnabout the combination of factors that have come together to create this unique ecosystem.

June 27 – July 1, Plastics Unwrapped CampGrades 6-8, 9:00am-3:00pm$125Can you imagine life before plastics? No waterproof raincoats? No plastic buckets? Humans existed without plastics for millennia. Now, we rely on plastics to meet our basic needs. They help keep us safe and healthy. They impact our daily lives in so many ways, it’s nearly impossible to imagine a world without them. The Museum of Nature & Science and the Branigan Cultural Center are cooperating on a summer camp based on the exhibition Plastics Unwrapped. The museums are presenting a summer camp for 12 middle school students focusing on recycling, sustainability, and diminishing worldwide resources.

June 27 - July 1, Recycled Art Workshop(after Plastics Unwrapped)Grades 6-8, 3:15pm-5:00pm$25Led by local artist Sudeshna Sengupta, this workshop will use found materials to create works of art. Inspired by the exhibition Plastics Unwrapped at the Branigan Cultural Center, participants will be inspired as we turn trash into treasures using artistic techniques.

July 12 – 13, Our Changing Climate WorkshopGrades 6-8, 1:00pm-3:00pm$20Learners will explore the Earth’s climate system with investigations into the carbon cycle, and the difference between weather and climate. Learn about historical records of climate and the human impact on the Earth’s climate.

July 19 – 20, Brain Games WorkshopGrades 6-8, 1:00pm-3:00pm$20Explore the brain at the museum. On day one we’ll explore the structure of the brain and investigate the purpose of each section. On day two, we’ll look at how the brain processes information provided by our sensesand how you can trick your brain into seeing/believing things that aren’t really there!

Workshops at BCC - Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and are open to youth ages7 to 12. The cost to attend each workshop is $10.

Modeling at RRM - The workshop runs for two Saturdays, June 4 and June 11, from 9:00am to 12:00pm. The cost is $5 per participant, including materials.

Join our popular scenicking class again this summer! Participants willbuild a small diorama, learning techniques for laying track, creating hills and mountains, and various types of landscaping common in model railroad layouts.

Families are highly encouraged to take the class together. Children on their own must be at least 10 years old. Those accompanied by an adult must be at least 8 years old.

Beginning Ceramics encourages students to explore hand-building techniques while creating a variety of functional forms.

Intermediate/Advanced Ceramics explores trends in studio ceramics and sculpture, while allowing experienced potters to apply advanced techniques to the wheel, hand-building,and glazing.

Beginning Oil Painting is designed for students with minimal or no prior instruction, encouraging students to discover the mystery and richness of oil painting.

Figure Drawing uses live models for students to turn observations into their own compositions.

Printmaking explores a variety of approaches to materials and techniques in the making of prints or multiple images.

Collage incorporates a variety of materials to createabstract compositions.

Landscapes explores principles of perspective, three dimensional form, proper value relationships, and drawing techniques.

Still Life Drawing is the practice of rendering inanimate groupings of everyday objects on paper. This class is ideal for students with some art experience.

Youth Classes at MoA - Classes run four consecutive days (Tuesday - Friday) from 10:00am to noon or 1:00pm to 3:00pm. The cost for each youth class is $60. Classes are designed for specific age groups.

Course DescriptionsCeramic Experience introduces students to clay forms, tools, and non-toxic glazes through a variety of hands-on activities.

Comic Book & Story Art draws students into the world of comics and storybook art by creating books of different shapes, sizes, and textures as they develop imaginative plots and illustrations.

World Art Adventures explores the art, history, customs, and life of different global cultures through mixed media projects.

Animal Drawing & Painting focuses students on creating images of animals using a variety of media.

Mixed Media Madness allows students to be creative using found objects and a variety of fun materials.

Drawing focuses on the fundamentals of studio art, as students develop their observational and technical skills while experimenting with charcoal, pencils, and ink.

Painting focuses on the fundamentals of studio art, as students develop their observational and technical skills while experimenting with watercolor and acrylic paints.

Nature Drawing brings the outdoors in with a focus on landscapes and the natural environment.

Puppet Palooza allows students to design, build, and perform in their own puppet theatre!

Art Adventures is a great forum for exploring art, as students learn basic visual concepts using a variety of materials and techniques.

Kids Crafters features mixed media projects where students challenge their imagination by creating unique and imaginative works using recycled items, elements from nature, paper, clay, and more.

Sculpture uses various media including found objects, paper, recyclable materials, and clay to construct 3-D works of art.

The Science, Nature, and Art Program (SNAP!) encourages visitors to embrace their artistic creativity while engaging in activities inspired by STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Architecture, and Mathematics). This FREE family program is held in the atrium between the Museum of Art and the Museum of Nature and Science, from 11:00am to 1:00pm every Saturday.
