Physical Education Sports Day 2011 Friday 1st July welcomed Sports Day 2011 with fabulous weather and a sense of real
drama, with both School House and St. Oswald’s House vying for the House Cup, St.
Chad’s and St. Peter’s looking to end the year on a high. With Mr Warsap having taken
the microphone vacated by Mr Allison the announcements came thick and fast, the
overall lead swapping countless mes during the day. So many that, come the final result,
all stood with baited breath to hear the now infamous line, “and in second place…”.
So this year, again, congratula ons go to St. Oswald’s House on retaining both the Sports
Day Trophy and the overall Inter House Cup.
In victory or defeat, a great me was had by all. So to all those who competed, helped out
or just showed their support, thank you and well done.

St. Chad’s Sports Day Review
Friday 1st July. What a day to remember!
It started at 7.30am when all the House Captains started pu ng up gazebos and
decora ng the track with balloons and banners. Thank you to Mrs Radjenovic, Mr
Forsyth, Mrs Hobday and Mrs Amps also for your help with this! A er the Leavers’ Service
everyone rushed to the track ready for Sports Day. It began with the 100m sprints and we
had some great results beginning with Sharon Bawa in Year 7 winning the race! In Year 8
Brayan Benjamin put in an amazing performance winning the 100m as well as Sam
Becconsall coming 2nd. Mercedes Ola also won the 100m & 200m sprints, so a massive
well done to all of you.
Also in Year 8, Jess Amps came 3rd in both 800m & 1500m and Alanna Harris 2nd in both
Long Jump and High Jump. Charlo e Hilton came 1st in the 200m and 2nd in the 100m
and Felicity Ford came 2nd also in the 200m. Katherine Amps, Year 9 won the Long Jump
with a record jump of 4.74m, as well as winning the 300m in a me of 44.23s which was
also a record me. Lizzie Steele won the Discus event and came 2nd in Javelin (even when
on crutches!!). The Year 9 girls also won the relay. Fantas c performances from you all!
Obviously these are only a few highlights of the day and many more athletes performed
brilliantly for the House scoring lots of points! So, thank you everyone for turning up to
your event and being so organised as well as all the encouraging support you gave to
everyone! It really made a difference and 2nd place, only 22 points behind Oswald’s is a
wonderful achievement! What a great start to what is going to be a year to remember!
Last but not least, thank you to Mrs Amps and Mrs Hobday for the support and
enthusiasm that they put into St Chad’s!
Congratula ons to the other houses too, together everyone created a superbly enjoyable
day and a fantas c compe on

St. Oswald’s Sports Day Review
From September un l July, the perseverance, dedica on and enthusiasm shown by St
Oswald’s House has been inspiring. The year started with House Music, lead by Sarah
Webster, Ben Jones, Rebecca Adamson and Joe Mason, where Oswald’s won the Senior
Choir Cup and came second to School House’s excellent musicians overall. From October
onwards, Inter‐House Sports events took place, with several successes for the House. All
par cipants in these compe ons deserve thanks and recogni on for their efforts. This
year Oswald’s also won the Merits Cup for academic effort and a ainment ‐ another
impressive achievement.
The next big event was Sports Day. The preliminary events were contested by two
members of Oswald’s showing the spirit of commitment that exists within the House.
We’d like to say thank you to everyone who gave up their me to take part. On Sports
Day, the House performed excep onally. Some members broke school records and
deserve credit for their achievements, especially Ben Jones and Cara Grys who won,
respec vely, the Victor Ludorum and the Victrix Ludorum for Oswald’s.
We were also fortunate to win the Senior Relay Cup, the Field Events Cup and the overall
Sports Day Cup. Congratula ons to everyone who competed; winning by a margin of just
22 points shows the importance of commitment, team work, and a posi ve a tude
towards par cipa on demonstrated by the House ‐ as trained by Dr Webster in House
assemblies! These achievements were vital to the overall House rankings meaning
Oswald's were also fortunate to win the Cockhouse Trophy (the overall House
Compe on), which was a worthy award for the sustained effort shown over the last
year.
Although for Oswald’s the year has been fantas c, the accomplishments of the other
Houses are not forgo en. The other House Captains have been a pleasure to work with
and we look forward to working with them in what looks set to be an exci ng year ahead!
Finally we’d like to thank the previous House Captains and our House Master and
Mistress for their guidance and support, which has been invaluable. Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy

St. Peter’s Sports Day Review
On Friday the 1st of July, the House Captains embarked on what is undoubtedly a bap sm
of fire! Despite the best prepara ons, the en re day was hec c but great fun, thanks to
all the hard work and support shown throughout the great house of St. Peter’s! We are so
thankful for all the enthusiasm shown through sport, chan ng and magnificent banners
made by a number of talented St. Peter’s ar sts.
Many thanks to those who put in massive efforts in our aid, such as David Husbands, Pam
Jacobs, the Randall Dream Team, Charlie Jones and Nathaniel Foster, and many more, all
of whom filled in, found replacements and ran their socks off! In spite of the vast efforts
put in by many, we did unfortunately collect fourth place at Sports Day and subsequently
fourth place in the standings for the House Cup, whilst St. Oswald’s proceeded to sweep
all the other available trophies.
However there was one victory they failed to grasp, this was the outstanding House
Captains relay in which St. Peter’s were victorious! This included victory over not only the
three other houses, but also the staff! The star of that race has to be Captain Charlie
Kingston who managed to triumph against his main compe tor Mr. Pinguenet, in what
has been said by many of the Sixth Form to be the most majes c one hundred metres
they had ever seen. And so, with that huge triumph in hand, St. Peter’s House now looks
forward to the coming year, as the slate is wiped clean, and a blue dawn approaches.

School House Sports Day Review
Sport’s Day, held on Friday 1st July, proved to be a fantastic day, being both the introductory event for us as new House Captains, and a dramatic conclusion to a year of zealous inter-house competition. Under our previous house captains our year had started in magnificent style, with victory at House Music 2010, yet despite much effort through the year in house sports and lower school merits, we went into Sports Day almost level on points with St. Oswald’s House. Throughout the day, our position varied from third to first, as the close competition meant no house could hold their lead for long. However, the relays brought our position full circle, and we finished Sports Day in a valiant third place.
Of course, St. Oswald’s deserve our congratulations for their impressive success across the board, winning seemingly every prize available. Well done also to St. Chad’s for coming second and commiserations to St. Peter’s, who came fourth.
We would like to give a massive thank you to all those who were involved in Sports Day in every way, shape or form. Whether you: organized participants and teams, showed your support by making banners and cheering for the competitors, attended preliminaries and contributed to our overall score, provided cakes, brownies or Cheerios, or helped set up & take down the gazebos, tables, you were all truly incredible and we can’t thank you enough. We must give a special mention to our Housemaster and Mistress, Mr Hughes and Mrs Walker, and thank them for their strong leadership and support.
This year has been a great year for School House, and now we begin a new year, as we look forward to welcoming new students to our house after the summer holidays. As a team we can once again rise to the challenge and make 2011-2012 the best era yet for School House!

Story by Felicity Ford (Year 8) Each year the school takes part in a fashion challenge, this year it was themed around the Ladies Day at Royal Ascot. For the compe on we each had to design a whole ou it appropriate for this occasion, we had to have pictures of the event and inspira on, as well as fabric samples. This year King’s had a huge number of students enter the challenge. The results of the challenge were amazing; our school won the school prize which was collected by Grace Threlfall and Felicity Ford, who also made great personal achievements. Grace Threlfall won 1st with a prize of £100 and whose design was made real by the College and shown on the catwalk. Felicity Ford came 3rd with a prize of £50. The King’s School also had another finalist in Faith Summon and Sam Beal, Irena Radic, Rachel Hancock, Freya Gibson, Tarusha Edirisooriya and Uma Sharma all got into the top 30! All the people who entered the compe on went on a trip to see the fashion show; it was a real‐ly good event. The standard of the clothes was really high and the work put in was a real eye‐opener, everybody who went enjoyed the day thoroughly. It was really nice to see the superb final pieces and it made everyone realise how much effort had gone in to them. In my opinion they were very beau ful and quirky and most of the pieces could easily be imagined in high street shop windows.. The clothes presented in the fashion show were the AS‐level and A‐level work of the students from the College of West Anglia, and Grace’s dress which was absolutely stunning. We learnt a lot from the trip, and I really think it will improve our tex les skills. I am really proud of eve‐ry‐ one who entered the challenge and collec ng my prize and the school prize was also a proud moment for me. All the entries were great, and would like to say well done to everyone.

Peterborough School’s Sailing Rega a Story by Ben Jennings (Year 7) Wednesday 6th July was the Peterborough Regional School’s Sailing Rega a. It was organised by the King’s School, Peterborough and was held at Lakeside. We got there in the morning and it was heavy winds and sunny. The race officer set a square course that was suitable for both new, and more experienced, sailors. The briefing was at 10.30 with racing star ng at 11am. A er launch it was windier than we thought but racing started. Twenty six boats were off the line and sailing, ranging from Picos, Qbas, Toppers, RS Vision, Op mists and a Phantom. The Phantom led the way followed by a clump of Toppers and the RS Vision. The race lasted about 40mins. Dr Webster and his team kept lap mes to account for the handicaps. Those in the lead changed posi ons throughout the race. There was a second race before lunch when the wind got up all the more. Boats were capsizing a lot but virtually all managed to complete the course. The shi ing winds made racing more challenging. A er a ring morning’s racing everyone came in to enjoy a Barbeque which had been organised by the King’s School staff. The final race got underway at 1.15pm. Rela vely soon a er the start the wind flew up wiping out a quarter of the fleet. To keep everyone safe the race was abandoned. It was decided that the two morning races would count towards the Rega a results, with no discard. Later that a ernoon, a few of the more experienced sailors and sailing coaches took part in the Challenger Race which did not count as part of the event.

Photographs from the 2011 Regatta and 2011 RNLI 24 hour sailing, fundraising event.
RNLI 24 Hour Sailing Fundraising Rega a Story By Mrs J Hobday Saturday 18th June, the start date for the RNLI 24 hour sailing at Ferry Meadows, was, as tradi on now has it, showery and windy. We were ambi ous in our aims: to keep three boats on the water each for 24 hours, to have fun and to raise lots of money for the RNLI. More tents were pitched than previously, fantas c BBQs were cooked courtesy of the Scaife family, and marshmallows were toasted for the enjoyment of all. Whilst that was going on the heavens opened, the wind picked up and our sailors dug in deep. Sailing during the night, in the dark, with just glow s cks to light your way can be a lonely task, but all were keen to keep going, even if certain individuals had to be helped into their boots (and boats!). The Sunday morning saw the wind pick up so that our most experienced sailors were put to good use, with frequent changes, and even enthusias c parents were allowed to join in, some mes adding much needed weight! Cold, yet happy, we were a good natured group as we cheered on our three boats at the end of the 24hours. Yes, all had sailed for the full 24 hours, all had had fun, and money had been raised. Aims achieved, we went home with an average of one and a half hours' sleep, ready for school the next morning. Final Posi ons (1st‐21st): Philip Trotman, Henry Morton, Anna Burroughs, Rebecca Adamson, Jack Thorndike, Elizabeth Hobday, Edward Adamson, Alyson Royle, Jonathon Burt, Stephen Webster, Carys Randeria, Elizabeth Farrell, Imogen Richards, Amber Norman, Josh Holroyd, Tom White, Alex Jarre , Ed Scaife, Cameron Pollock, Emily Strand, Ciaran Randeria
