WELCOMEThere are so many exciting things happening at Emmaus this term that I hardly know where to start. We've got weddings, baptisms and our ever-popular Pizza Feast. We're launching a new teaching series, a new youth club, a new charity, and a new collective on the Bushy Hill estate. We're also going away on holiday together to the Golden Sands of Lincolnshire from 27th July - 2nd August. The week at Focus is always one of the highlights of the year for Sammy and me and there's a phenomenal programme of activities for kids, youth and students. To book your place chat to Martin or Catherine Bennett. You might also like to join one of the many 24-7 mission teams we're sending out this summer to places like China, Turkey, Iceland and Romania. And don’t forget to book your place for the first 24-7 International Gathering in three years - it’s taking place in Dublin, this October 17th-20th. Book now atwww.24-7prayer.com/dublin13. C'mon!

COLLECTIVES

We express Kingdom family through Colelctives that meet in homes or on Campus. This is one of the means by which we live out our shared life in Chirst, growing in love for God, one another and our neighbours. These gatherings provide a context for a simple form of church, where everyone can be known, heard, valued, and equipped. Collective times combine food, fun and friendship. There are collectives for everyone including students, families, and young professionals and soon, Bushy Hill.

If you’re not yet part of a collective, speak to Sammy Greig or [email protected]

ACCESS ALL AREAS EMMAUS LOCALLY

Whether locally in our everyday friendships and community projects or globally through long term mission partnerships and short term mission teams, Emmaus has God’s mission to all people at its heart. We do not see this as an option but an essential part of our identity. Every Christian is called as a missionary, a ‘sent one’.

‘You will receive power from on high … and be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judaea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth’ (Acts 1:8)

The Guildford church has a good track record of working in unity. In the last decade all sorts of community initiatives have sprung up in the town and cooperation has certainly added to the impact. Christians are now on the streets 3 nights a week as part of ‘Street Angels’, those in debt are being helped through Christians Against Poverty (CAP) and hundreds of overseas students are touched each year by Friends International initiatives. The Town Centre chaplaincy oversees teams of chaplains in the council, police, department stores and even the market. This is just the tip of the iceberg – the church is very actively engaged in all aspects of the town.

Emmaus, in partnership with The Matrix Trust, has a number of specific initiatives, working on the Bushy Hill estate, into local schools and through the annual Ready4Action project. There are student links into the Academy of Contemporary Music and University and also the Family Outreach programme engages with local families who have specific needs. ‘Love Guildford’ reaches out from our Emmaus Rd Centre, ‘Allen House’ base, and is developing some strong relationships and there are links into Woking Football Club through sports chaplaincy.

EMMAUS GLOBALLY

As a 24-7 Prayer Boiler Room, Emmaus Rd has a key role as a training and sending centre for God’s mission to the nations. We want to see hundreds of pioneers sent out through 24-7 Prayer into unreached places. In particular Allen House is the main international office for 24-7 and also the Vision Course training centre. This explains why we often offer hospitality to visitors from overseas. Short term teams are also organized from here and this summer there will be trips to places like Iceland, China, Ibiza and Macedonia. ER people will be on many of these teams and lead others – check www.24-7prayer.com/mission for all the details.

We also support a growing number of partners around the world – people trained, sent and resourced from Emmaus. Phil, Anna and Oscar Evans work with the Glasnost Boiler Room in Skopje, Macedonia. Beth is based long term in a major city in North Africa and David and Joy James are working with gang members in inner city San Francisco. Through James and Julia Thomas we partner with ‘Justice and Care’, who focus on rescuing victims of trafficking and slavery and we also financially support 24-7’s ground breaking work in Ibiza.

So, get on board and we will help you find your place in God’s big plan for the world – both here in Guildford and beyond.

PRAYER

We not only believe that prayer works, but that it’s a living conversation with a loving God.

Emmaus Rd was planted with a heart for prayer and worship. As we continue to grow and experience more of God, we are committed to keeping prayer as a central focus, from participating in one of the upcoming 24-hour prayer seasons, to attending our weekly prayer and worship meeting.

WEEKLY PRAYER

Our weekly prayer and worship evenings take place every Thursday from 7pm to 8pm (sharp!). The meetings are structurally unstructured, with space for the prophetic and individual prayer. The meeting is a great place to get connected and to really dedicate time to prayer. We believe when two or more gather together in Jesus’ name he is there also. This meeting is representative of the heart of our church which is centered in prayer, as we pray and worship together we move the heart of God. Our vision in the prayer meetings is that as we pray together we can affect people, places and nations. All are welcome and all are encouraged to contribute.

24-HOUR PRAYER

We maintain a prayer room that is open 24-hours a day. We use it for non-stop prayer regularly which is organised through our mailing list and the @EmmRd Twitter page. The prayer room is a great place to be alone with God and express yourself in whatever way you are comfortable. You could also meet with a few others to pray and worship together.

If you have any questions about our prayer or would like to book time in the prayer room, email:

[email protected]

“Currently 'worship' means a very specific thing in church culture. Specifically, it refers to music. As a musician I find this thrilling. God created music and loves seeing creativity released in people. There is a strong biblical tradition of musicians and worship, singing praises to the Almighty. However, to broaden our understanding, the Hebrew word 'Avodah' is a great one to think about. It means 'worship and work'. Going about your everyday work with the attitude of a servant. Building the wall that's in front of you and praising God whilst doing so. THIS is what I want worship to look like in our church. One thing I have learned from travelling and leading worship is that no matter who you are, where you're from or what you've done, truly worshipping your heavenly Father will ignite your soul like nothing else can. Whether praising Him for His goodness or running to Him for shelter, people who are lost in worship are truly alive- it's what we are built to do.”

- Peter Burton, Emmaus Rd Worship Leader

YOUTH & CHILDREN

Here at Emmaus Rd we have a heart for reaching and discipling children and young people. We do this through a growing programme of Sunday and midweek activities including bible studies, youth clubs, football clubs, schools work and more. We also work to support families as they live out their faith together and create opportunities for them to spend quality time together. We are passionate about discipling those who already know Jesus and reaching those who don't.
