CRASH COURSE ON SPANISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE FOR INCOMING

INTERNATIONAL ERASMUS + / EXCHANGE AGREEMENT STUDENTS From 17 to 28 August

Target students This crash course is aimed at international students holding an Erasmus+ mobility scholarship or an Exchange Agreement mobility grant who will be studying at the University of Oviedo in the academic year 2020-2021 and need urgent reinforcement and support in their Spanish language skills. The course is conceived of for foreign students under these characteristics whose entry level of Spanish as a foreign language is that of a beginner or of a lower-intermediate speaker.

TARGET STUDENTS: This course is aimed at university students or teachers who have learned Spanish as a foreign language or as a second language and who want to develop their skills when writing articles, reports, papers for conferences, PhD theses, etc., with the appropriate level of linguistic correction, clarity in presentation and adaptation to textual conventions.

OBJECTIVES: This course is aimed at enhancing students’ ability to produce academic texts.

TARGET STUDENTS

This course is designed for professionals in the field of Health Sciences who develop their activity in a bilingual English-Spanish context. The academic program includes subjects of medical terminology, strategies for effective communication (medical interview), grammar and vocabulary, and myths and beliefs in Latin American culture about health and disease. It aims to provide the student with the specific training that will enable him/her to increase or improve his/her linguistic competence in Spanish in the medical field.

TARGET STUDENTS

This course has been specially designed for the so-called “legacy speakers”, those who through family interaction were raised in a country of non-Hispanic language, but in an environment of great cultural connection with Spanish. These students have grown up hearing and possibly speaking Spanish in their family environment, but they feel more comfortable speaking the official language of their country. However, they are highly motivated to improve their "heritage" language and seek a reconnection with their family roots. In many cases they have a good level of oral linguistic competence in Spanish (usually in conversational or colloquial registers), although they often lack sufficient schooling in their heritage language and often do not know its formal register, having acquired it almost exclusively in contexts and situations of an informal and family nature. Thus, the theoretical content and practical activities contained in this program are intended to cover, to a large extent, those shortcomings.
