Year to Eliminate 14
Summer of Service 15
Bulletin Editor Introduction 16
Dear Ohio District,
Hello! My name is Natalie Hagy and I am your 2013-2014 Ohio District Governor. I am so excited to be
able to work with all of you this year. I will be a senior at Hilliard Davidson High School come this fall. I sing in the
choir, play viola, play tennis, and, of course, volunteer with Key Club. When playing tennis, I usually play first dou-
bles with my twin sister who will actually be bringing you the Buckeye Key this year!
What exactly does Governor do? As the District Governor, I am in charge of running board meetings for
the District Board, help committees organize the District, promote the Eliminate Project and represent the state of
Ohio on the International Board. I have to make sure that tasks are being completed and resources are the most
up to date for the Ohio District. I also work closely with Kiwanis to help create the best experience for the Key
Clubbers.
As Governor, I want it be able to have the voices of the District Members be heard. There is no Key Club
without its members and you all contribute so much service to all of the communities in Ohio. You know what
needs to be made different in this District and what you want to see so please feel free to contact the District
Board! My contact information will be included in this letter and I encourage all of you to shoot me a quick email
or text to introduce yourself. Nothing makes me more excited than meeting new people!
I would also love to increase membership attendance to District events which include Fall Rally, District
Convention and the Ohio Tour to International Convention. These events promote unity across the District and
the more that attend the merrier the experience.
I am ecstatic to serve as your Ohio District Governor this year. I encourage all of you to relax and contin-
ue to serve your communities through this summer. You all have such great talents and I cannot wait to see this
bloom.
Yours in Service,
Natalie Hagy
2013-2014 Ohio District Governor

About Miss Cecelia Ferguson- Ohio’s Liaison to the International Board
I am an international trustee and I serve on the International Board of Key Club and make decisions that
affect our entire organization. I also supervise and bring information about these decisions to your district and
your two sister districts (Capital and New York) while bringing your ideas and voice to the international level.
About Cecelia: I am from Tampa, Florida and I will be a freshman at the University of South Florida in the
fall. I love my family, friends, animals, and Key Club! I enjoy spending as much time as I can at the beach! I col-
lect office supplies, especially if they happen to be Key Club merchandise.
About getting to the position of International Trustee: First you will need endorsement from your district at
district convention, meaning the House of Delegates will have to vote in favor of your candidacy for Internation-
al office. The House can endorse two international trustees and one international president or vice president (I
know it can sound a little confusing at first). After endorsement you will continue on your journey to International
Convention where there will be one round of caucusing; which consists of eleven rooms; a nominating confer-
ence where some candidates will be eliminated; a meet the candidates, where there will be question & answer
session on stage; and finally there will be one speech at the House of Delegates where voting will commence. I
understand this is a very long journey but having experienced it I can say it is so worth it!
If you ever have a question about Key Club, service, leadership, elections, or anything of the like, I’d
love to hear from you. I’m here for a reason… and the reason is to serve all of you, so that you can better serve
your homes, schools, divisions, and communities.

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR INTRODUCTIONS

Making service the star of the show was certainly not a problem for key
clubbers at this year's Ohio District Convention. Right off the bat, key club-
bers from all over Ohio came in with their spirits high and really got pumped
up at the spirit rally. It was really great seeing so many people so excited
about service! Everyone seemed to have a blast at the celebrity dance
and the photo booth was great. As the one working the photo booth, I en-
joyed getting to talk to each key clubber and see the fellowship that Key
Club creates. During caucusing and House of Delegates we got to see the
passion key clubbers have about leadership and how the Ohio District is
run. We elected our wonderful new executive board, and endorsed an In-
ternational Trustee candidate. We also made the District Secretary and Dis-
trict Treasurer a combined position for the years following 2013-2014. We
also got to recognize the outgoing board's year of service at the Governor's
Banquet and then danced the night away at the Governor's Ball. During
the sessions, it was truly humbling to see such an abundance of clubs and
individuals receiving so many honors and awards for a year of outstanding
service. I know that every key clubber that reads this will be dying to attend
next year's DCON, so I can't wait to see you there!

Throughout this year, the Bay High Key Club has seen a lot of
success—both in service and at DCON. 21 Bay members attended the
convention, winning seven trophies, four recognition certificates, and also
saw a member be inducted as a Lieutenant Governor of Division 14.
Among their proudest accomplishments is their first place trophy for the
Major Emphasis Award. The club received this award for their fundraisers
for the ELIMINATE project, which in total raised $3,050, which averaged to
$50 per member. Other awards that Bay High School won included: first
place in the Video and K Family Service project, second place in Nontra-
ditional scrapbook, poster contest, Single Service report, and the service
project trifold board, and certificates for their Key Club Week, Kiwanis
Sponsorship, and the First Lady’s sock project. Bay has also done many
service projects throughout the year, making a combined total of over
800 hours, and raising more than $4,500 dollars for various causes. The Bay
Key Club has had a lot of success this year—and can’t wait to do it again
next year!

The clock is ticking and every second we are just a little closer to
International Convention! Key Club holds an international convention
every year so that the new international board can be elected, out-
standing key clubbers can receive awards for their distinguished service,
ideas regarding volunteer opportunities can be discussed, and so much
more. There are workshops each day of convention during which key
clubbers can meet new people from all over the nation and world, learn
about projects that can be taken back to any school, and develop a
better sense of what it means to be a key clubber. International Con-
vention brings like-minded, service-oriented, and kind-hearted people
from all over the world into one place so that we can celebrate what
we do as key clubbers each day! It is an exciting, high energy event that
is bound to leave you speechless and ready to serve your home, school,
and community.
This year’s convention is being held at the Washington Hilton in
our nation’s capital, Washington D.C., from July 4th-6th. The tentative
schedule is: Wednesday- registration and a meet and greet; Thursday-
opening session, caucuses, nomination conference, and a dance; Fri-
day- workshops, meet the candidates running for international board,
service fair, and a session in the conference hall; Saturday- workshops,
house of delegates, closing session, and a closing dance. Guest speak-
ers include Elizabeth Smart and Michael C. Anthony! The Ohio tour is
longer than the convention itself, lasting from July 1st- 7th. Our schedule is:
Monday- depart by bus and check in at the hotel; Tuesday- participate
in a service project, eat lunch at the Hard Rock Café, visit the Interna-
tional Spy Museum, and take an illuminated tour of the major monu-
ments; Wednesday- trip to the National Mall and meet and greet at
night; Thursday through Saturday- convention activities; Sunday- depart
by bus. The tour includes: Convention registration, souvenirs & materials,
Bus transportation, tour T-shirt, approximately 3 meals, 6 nights lodging,
and all admissions.
You don’t want to miss out on this amazing event! Not only will
you develop a deep friendship with those who you attend the conven-
tion with, but you will also learn how important key club is around world
thanks to the efforts of key clubbers like you. I can personally attest to
the fact that you will make new friends, find a service project to take
back to your school, make a difference in someone else’s life in some
way and have one of the best weeks of the whole year if you attend this
year’s International Convention.

Year to Eliminate
Page 14
I hope that everyone is aware that all parts of Kiwanis International and UNICEF are working hard
to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. With the help of our key club members, we can
make a difference in the future of the eliminate project. This year I hope that we can organize
more club activities and recognition for the eliminate project. Try to encourage some form of
fundraising in your school, every penny counts!

YEAR TO ELIMINATE
Summer of Service!
Page 15
My message for you all today is to never stop serving. As members of Key Club
it is your job to help make the world a better place. Although you are taking a
break from school, you should still try to keep up on your Key Club work. You
can’t forget the pledge you took as becoming a member of Key Club.
Maybe you can have a club meeting by the pool? Or perhaps you can host
a club picnic? Try to incorporate some fun, summer aspects into your sum-
mer meetings so that your members are more likely to attend.
You and your club should also try to have at least one big service project idea
for the summer. Last summer my home school Key Club, West Muskingum, pro-
jected a G rated movie on the baseball diamond. Parents, students, and chil-
dren could bring blankets and chairs and we all watched a movie together
under the stars. We collected admission and had a concession stand to raise
money for Eliminate.
It was a fun, safe way for everyone to see each other over the summer and we
raised a lot of money for a good cause.
I hope you all have a wonderful, safe, service-filled summer!
Yours in service,
Leah McInturf
