Summer 2019
JMPC in Miss ion John McMillan Presbyterian Church
Our mission is to provide a way for the community to
Know, Glorify and Serve God!
John McMillan Church has been filled with mission
and ministry activity! At the church we planted a
SHIM garden & orchard. Several members traveled
to New Bern, NC in March to help with flood re-
lief. Another JMPC group went on a mission trip
in Chiapas, Mexico in July. Our youth went to Big
Creek, KY in July. Vacation Bible School was a
fabulous time
for 144 chil-
dren from
our church
and the com-
munity in June. We give
thanks to
God for all of
these experi-
ences that
allowed us to
be God’s
teachers,
hands, feet
and voices!

Volunteers

John McMIllan is blessed to have dedicated volunteers from the con-
gregation who help out by driving the van, staying overnight, purchas-
ing supplies, preparing a dinner, setting up the rooms and doing laun-
dry while we host homeless children and their families for a week at
our church. We also are blessed to have support from Ruthfred Lu-
theran, Bethany Lutheran, St. Louise de Merillac,Bethel Presbyterian, and Mingo Creek Presbyterian.
This past July we hosted 4 families—9 children and 5 adults. Our next hosting period is the week of
October 13th. This is an excellent opportunity to reach out and be a good neighbor to those in
need as Jesus exemplified in his Good Samaritan lesson. Please consider becoming a part of this Out-
Christmas Affair
Before you know it, the Christmas Affair will be upon us, Sat-
urday, November 2, 2019. Over 50 Crafters have been reg-
istered and a waiting list of crafters is forming. Watch for the
schedule for gift bag decorating in September and candy making
Gifts from the Heart
August is the time for getting kids and grandkids ready for “back to school” and the busiest time for tourism.
August 12th is the start of grouse season in Britain ( in case that comes up on “Jeopardy!”) AND time to start
or continue making crafts to donate to JMPC’s “Gifts from the Heart” at the “Christmas Affair 2019” a few
short months away! This year we may try three areas: 1) Black and Gold, 2) Only $5! and 3) an area for
anything else. Thank you for your generosity and creativity; it couldn't be done without you.

Music Notes
We will have a kick-off picnic on Friday, August 30, at 6:30 PM for our Chancel Choir and Celebration Ring-
ers. The picnic will be held at the home of Carolyn and Rick Brow. You are welcome to join us if you are
thinking of joining either of these musical groups. You can contact Carolyn Brow for more details.
This summer we have been fortunate to have many fine soloists to sing and play for our worship ser-
vices. Thank you, to all of you who have shared your musical talents with us. The Chancel Choir and Cele-
bration Ringers will resume in September.
SHIM Garden
The SHIM garden needs
your help. We need
gardeners to help us
harvest on Monday eve-
nings. Please come
even if you don’t know how to garden because we will
show you what to do. You don’t have to come every
week. Any help will be appreciated.
We are sending fresh, organic produce to SHIM every week
for their needy clients, many of whom are children. We
have picked broccoli, carrots, zucchini, tomatoes, peas,
beans, bok choi, and cucumbers. We hope to continue har-
vesting into October.
The beautiful orchard continues to grow. It will be at least
two years before we can harvest much fruit so we must be
