Orientation
Greetings to the Roswell High School Community,
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year at Roswell
High School! Whether you are a returning Hornet or
new to our school, I welcome you to the best high
school in Georgia for academics, athletics, and the fine
arts. As I start my second year as principal, I am very
appreciative that the students at Roswell High School
have a unique opportunity to succeed in a diverse and
nurturing environment supported by the very best fac-
ulty and staff.
A large part of the success Roswell students enjoy is
our PTSA. The PTSA works with the school’s leader-
ship to meet various needs and provide our teachers
and students the very best. Through college scholar-
ships, outreach programs, campus beautification, feed-
ing our teachers when they must stay late for a pro-
gram, and much more, the Roswell High School PTSA
always comes through. Thank you to returning presi-
dent Lee Hills and the Board as they truly put into ac-
tion the PTSA motto of “Every Child, One Voice.”
Thank you also to all of you for your support of our
school. Whether it is through volunteering at school,
supporting a booster organization, or simply taking the
time to learn more about what is happening in Hornet
Nation, all of us at Roswell High School appreciate
your support.
Please continue to call on me and let me know if you
have any questions, concerns, or comments.
I look forward to seeing everybody back in person on
August 6, 2018!
Enjoy the remainder of your sum-
mer.

Staff/Volunteers cannot accept drop off
items for students to pick up in the front
office or at the Greeter Desk.
Conflict Resolution: Parents who have
concerns about a classroom issue should
contact the teacher via e-mail or phone. If
no resolution can be found or if there are
still additional concerns, contact the depart-
ment chairperson. If the situation is still
unresolved, contact the appropriate grade
level Assistant Principal. Department Heads
and email addresses can be found on the
RHS website under STAFF.
Dress Code: Students are responsible for
knowing the dress code which is available
in the Student Handbook on the RHS web-
site. Dress code violations include, but are
not limited to, wearing clothes with an inap-
propriate advertisement or language; shorts,
skirts, and dresses shorter than two inches
below the fingertips; exposed undergar-
ments; form-fitting clothes; sagging, bag-
ging, and dragging trousers; pajamas.
P.E. Lockers: The cost is $5.00 per semes-
ter to be paid during class.
Lunches: There are four lunch periods.
Students are not allowed to leave campus
for lunch. Outside guests are not allowed to
join students for lunch. Students are not
allowed to use meal delivery services.
Searches: Student lockers, desks and all
school and classroom storage areas are
school property and remain under the con-
trol of the school at all times. These areas
are not private. Periodic general inspections
of these areas may be
conducted by school authorities for any
reason at any time without notice and with-
out student consent. If a search yields illegal
or unauthorized materials, such materials
will be turned over in person to the Chief of
the Fulton County School Police, School
Police Officer, or proper legal authorities
for disposition.
Student ID Cards: Students receive a new
photo ID card each school year. The ID
cards are required for entry into some
school events. Students should carry their
ID at all times while on campus.
School Closings: In case of inclement
weather, check local radio and TV stations
and the Fulton County website for infor-
mation on school closings.
Friday School: Friday School may be
required for disciplinary issues. Friday
School is held after school on Friday
afternoons. Students will be required to
arrange their own transportation home.
Absence: Any student who has been absent
from school must present a written excuse
before school begins to the attendance clerk
within five days of returning to school. The
excuse must include the reason for the ab-

signature. Students who have missed 10
days or more in one school year will be
required to provide additional verification,
including doctors’ statements.
Checking Out: To arrange a checkout, the
student must take a written request, signed
by the parent/guardian, to the Attendance
Office before school. Include the reason for
the checkout, the parent or guardian’s sig-
nature, and a phone number for parental
verification. The request will be verified,
and the attendance clerk will issue a check-
out pass to the student. When it is time for
the student to leave, the student will show
the teacher the checkout pass. The student
must check in and out through the attend-
ance office, not the clinic. Failure to check
in and out through the Attendance Office
may result in disciplinary action. There will
be no walk-in checkouts after 3:15 pm.
Sick Policy: Students who become ill at
school should go to the Clinic. If the student
needs to be sent home, the Clinic will call
the parents/emergency contact to make nec-
essary arrangements. The student will need
to be checked out through the Attendance
Office.
Pre-approved Absences: For all grades,
pre-approved absences are considered ex-
cused. Pre-approved absences are limited to
six days for an entire school year. Specific
guidelines apply; please discuss your plans
with the principal well in advance of the
planned absence.
Tardiness: A student is tardy when he/she
arrives to school after the beginning of the
official school day OR is not in his/her as-
signed class at the beginning of the class
period. Students who arrive late to school in
the morning must go to the
Attendance Office for a pass to class.
Food/Beverages: Vending machines are

requested from the attendance office at least
48 hours in advance. The Certificate of En-
rollment is valid for 30 days.
Driver’s Licenses: Students must have an
Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program cer-
tificate and a Certificate of Enrollment is-
sued by the school. Students are eligible for
the ADAP form once they pass 9th grade

will be given on an established priority ba-
sis, which can be found on the back of the

the end of the first semester of the stu-
dent’s senior year. After submitting ap-
propriate forms, students who waive Per-

about the Personal Fitness Waiver on the
RHS website.
Testing PSAT: Students in grades 9th, 10th, and
11th grades take the PSAT at RHS on

88.00 to 91.99 semester numeric average.
Principal's Honor Roll: A student must
have a 92.00 or greater semester numeric

ceive an “R” letter or a pin at the begin-
ning of the next school year.
The Tom Zachary VIP Awards: Awards are presented by each teacher to

cal scholarships are also awarded to sen-
iors. All recipients are notified by mail.
Leadership 20/20: A full-day event that
recognizes students with strong leader-
ship potential sponsored by the Roswell
Rotary Club and RHS PTSA. Participa-

Juniors and Seniors Class Rings: Balfour will visit RHS in
the fall to assist in ordering a class ring.

dents arriving at prom after 10:00 pm will
not be admitted. A student bringing a
guest who is not an RHS student must
complete a non-RHS student waiver.
College Visits: RHS encourages official
college visits. Each student is allowed up
to six excused absences for visits each
year prior to May 1. To be excused, visits
must be approved three days in advance
and students must be in good academic
standing. Notes from colleges visited
must be provided to the attendance office
upon a student’s return. Students are re-
sponsible for all missed work. No visits
are approved during the final two weeks
of each semester.
Approved college visits for 11th and
12th grade students do not count against
exam exemptions.
Seniors Attendance: All attendance rules apply
to seniors. Seniors are required to have
parent-signed notes even if they are 18
years old. Please be aware that too many
absences may result in a student losing
parking privileges and may even prevent
graduation.
Class Dues: Students may pay class dues
at the start of the school year on the regis-
tration form. Dues cover cap and gown,
Senior Picnic, Senior Breakfast, other
senior activities, and provide discounts
for Homecoming and Prom tickets. Dues
help offset costs of graduation events.
Students who do not pay class dues are
responsible for the individual costs of all
senior activities, including cap and gown.
Cap and Gown: Order on Class Dues
Form or from GABalfour.com and will
be available for pick up in the front office
about six weeks before graduation.
Graduation Announcements: Can be
ordered at www.gabalfour.com.
Graduation Events: Information on
Graduation activities will be provided at
a Spring Graduation Parent Meeting.
College Letters of Recommendation:
Many teachers and counselors will pre-
pare letters of recommendation for stu-
dents. Requests are extensive during the
fall; please allow at least a two week turn
around time for recommendations. It is
suggested that students submit a resume
or activities/ achievement form with their
recommendation request.
Seniors do not take the PSAT, sched-
uled for October 10, so this would be a
great day to make a college visit!
Senior Pictures: The last day for seniors
to be photographed to be included in the
yearbook is Oct. 20. The last day to se-
lect their yearbook pose is Sept. 20.
Cady Studios will be at RHS on July 23
and 25. Schedule your appointment
at www.cadystudios.com.
Senior Scholarships: The PTSA has a
scholarship designed for you! We award-
ed six scholarships with varied criteria to
recognize our diversely talented sen-
iors. We will be adding more this
year. Look for the scholarship applica-

College Visits and College Fairs
Campus Visits at Roswell – Sign up online! Visit
www.roswellstudentservices.weebly.com or check out the QR
codes around school. A pass to attend will be emailed to you!
In the fall, college admission representatives from around the
country visit the RHS campus. Visits begin the 3rd week in
August and there are hundreds of schools who come to meet
with our students! Juniors and seniors are invited to sign up for
these informative presentations. In the spring, sophomores may
participate in College Rep Visits. Oftentimes, the college rep-
resentative who comes to RHS and gives the presentations is
the person who will make the first pass at reading your applica-
tion essay. Make a connection with these College Reps at RHS
and keep in touch with them! Students are responsible for mak-
ing up all missed work. During the sessions, students may ask
college representatives specific questions, hear tips on how to
apply, and learn more about campus life. These are wonderful
opportunities that can help students narrow down their choices.
College Fairs All high school students, regardless of grade level, can benefit
from attending a College Fair. College Fairs provide an oppor-
tunity for students to “shop” for colleges. College Fairs give
students the chance to talk to admission officers and get the
scoop on everything from what majors are offered to life on
campus. Fairs can also help you rule out colleges, as well as
introduce you to new ones.
Counselor Caseload Assignments for 2018-2019
Can‘t afford to take expensive road trips or flights to visit all the college campuses you might be interested in?
College Rep Visits and Fairs may be your solution.
The Student Services Office houses Roswell Counselors, our Grad-
uation Coach, the School Social Worker, the Records Clerk, and a
Professional Assistant, all of whom are available to assist students
and families through a variety of ways — whether it’s related to
academic issues, personal and family concerns, homework re-
quests, student withdrawals, and everything in between, we are all
here to help!
Counseling assignments for 2018-2019 school year
We are excited to work with your student and look forward to con-
tinuing relationships and forming new ones. Fluctuations in student
enrollment require us to review counselor caseload assignments on
a yearly basis and make adjustments as needed.
Please keep in mind that school counselors wear many hats. To
help us serve you better, please schedule meetings with your coun-
selor by appointment.
Students arrange to see their counselor by completing a
Request to See Counselor Form in the Student Services
Office.
Parents, if you need to meet with your child’s counselor,
please contact them directly via email or call the Student Ser-
vices Office at 470-254-4608 to make an appointment.
Please note there are two counseling assignments, one for 9th
graders only and one for 10th-12th grade students.

Attention Potential College Athletes!
Rising juniors who are prospective Division 1
or Division 2 athletes should register with the
NCAA this summer: Students may register at any time, but we recommend
that they register before their junior year. The regis-
tration website is http://www.eligibilitycenter.org.
The NCAA Eligibility Center will evaluate a student’s
academic credentials once the following information
has been received, and the student has had his/her
status requested by an NCAA member institution:
Completed online registration
Fee payment
SAT and/or ACT test score on file from the re-
spective testing agency (not from Roswell High
School)
Transcript(s) from all schools or programs attend-
ed (request via Parchment.com)
In High School you don’t go to TAG
Science or TAG Social Studies TAG is a seminar that you take once a
week. This seminar will cover a topic of inter-
est to you (past subjects include Oceanogra-
phy, Ghost Hunters, or Photography) and will
also assist you in developing both short and
long term goals for high school.
TAG opportunities include AP classes, di-
rected studies, and internships. A TAG teach-
er will explain these options in more detail in
your first TAG class.
How do I know if I’m in TAG?
If you were in TAG in middle or elemen-
tary school in Georgia, you are still in
TAG, even if you haven’t participated in a
year or more. If you’re not sure, one of the
TAG teachers can help you find out.
When do I start my TAG seminar?
TAG registration typically takes place
during the second week of the semester in
the mornings and during all 4 lunch peri-
ods. Registration is announced during
morning announcements.
What is good about being in TAG?
Students can sign up for TAG seminars
with friends in all grades and on a topic
that they are interested in.
It shows colleges that students are willing
to go beyond a typical school day.
Opportunities include career internships
during the school day in a real workplace,
like a surgeon’s office or a law practice.
Students can take a directed study class,
spending one period every day studying a
subject they really want to research. Stu-
dents have studied fashion design, comput-
er programming, piano, and more
Students have an advisor who can assist
them in developing a four-year academic
plan, making course and career selections,
and preparing for admission to col-
lege. TAG advisors will make every effort
to assist students by working with them,
their parents, and/or their teachers.
Participating in Dual Enrollment this fall?
Make note of this important deadline!
August 1- deadline for all DE students taking clas-
ses online or on the college campus to provide their
Roswell counselor with a copy of their final schedule.
Failure to submit your final schedule will result in
student being placed in face to face classes at Roswell.
August 1- deadline for all DE students taking Col-
lege English at Roswell to be fully accepted by Geor-
gia State. Remember, it can take up to 3 weeks to pro-
cess your materials so be sure they are submitted early.
Failure to be fully accepted by this date will result in
student being placed in face to face class at Roswell.

Notification to Parents of the Screening and Referral Process for Gifted Services
New Authorization to Give Medication Forms
and Care Plans must be completed EACH
SCHOOL YEAR. Please make sure the
school has CURRENT telephone numbers for
parents and all authorized alternate contacts
(if you are unable to pick up your child should
they become sick during the school day).
Please note that we will not allow a seriously
ill or injured child to drive, walk, or ride the
bus home. Please update any changes with
your child’s health conditions and their asso-
ciated Care Plans (diabetics, severe allergies,
etc.)
The clinic is open every day from 8:00 am to
4:00 pm and is located next to Student Ser-
vices Office.
MEDICATIONS
It is best for students to take medication be-
fore or after school; however if it is necessary
to take a medication during school hours the
following policies apply to Roswell High
School students.
Your child may carry over-the-counter medi-
cations and does not need to complete a medi-
cation form. Medications MUST be in the
original containers and under NO circum-
stances be shared. This privilege can be re-
voked at any time if a student is not comply-
ing with the medication policy. The clinic
does not supply any over-the-counter medica-
tions and can not dispense any unless they are
supplied by the parent with a signed Authori-
zation to Give Medications form. If you need
or choose the clinic to administer, supervise,
or store any medications, an authorization
form must be completed.
Fulton County Board of Education and state
laws prohibit RHS from providing any medi-
cation. This includes emergency medications;
(Benadryl, EpiPens, and asthma rescue inhal-
ers) so please make sure your child has any
needed medications should an emergency
occur. Your child IS ALLOWED AND EN-
COURAGED to carry his asthma inhaler,
EpiPen and/ or Benadryl DAILY. Please
make sure your child’s name is on all medica-
tion in the event it becomes lost or misplaced.
All prescription medications must be kept in
the clinic and will not be administered unless
an Authorization to Give Medication form is
completed with the health care provider’s
signature and the parent’s signature. They
also need to be in the original containers.
Although we want your student to return to
school as soon as possible after a medication
change, it is for the safety of your child that
we ask that you observe him for any unsus-
pected reactions and report it to the prescrib-
ing health care provider.
INFORMATION and FORMS
This information is a snapshot of the county
policy. Please visit the Student Health Ser-
vices section of the Fulton County Schools

IMPORTANT TO NOTE
Students need to be fever free for 24 hours
without any fever reducing medication (Advil
or Tylenol) before returning to school. Under
some circumstances a note from your physi-
cian may be necessary for your child to return
to school. Whenever there is a doubt about
sending your child to school, please consult
your physician before doing so. You also may
call the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta 24-
hour nurse advice line at 404-250-KIDS for
advice when your child’s doctor’s office is
not open.

The consideration for gifted services may be
reported or automatic as defined by the GaDOE
Resource Manual for Gifted Education Ser-
vices. The Fulton County School System
screens all students for eligibility for gifted
services twice a year and uses a systematic
approach to identify highly capable students
who may qualify for gifted services.
The gifted teacher routinely reviews available
data to refer students for further assessment.
Students meeting either the automatic screening
OR the classroom screening criteria AND have
supporting data gathered from test history,
products, and/or advanced content levels are
referred for additional testing to determine
gifted eligibility.
I. Automatic Screening- identifies students
who score at specified levels on a norm-
referenced test as defined in the GaDOE Re-
source Manual for Gifted Education Services,
for further assessment to determine eligibility
for gifted services. At the beginning of the
school year, TAG teachers review existing test
data.
Standardized Tests Students must have minimally a combination of
scores that include > 85th percentile and > 90th
percentile in two of the three areas on a stand-
ardized, nationally norm-referenced achieve-
ment test: Total Reading, Total Math, and
Complete Battery.
STAR Assessment –
(Spring 2017 Assessment)
Grade 1- 8: Students must score 90% or
greater on system’s STAR assessment for Math
or Reading. Supporting data is needed.
Acceleration Assessments- Students must
score 80% or greater on system’s Acceleration
Assessment in:
Grade K: English/Language Arts and Mathe-
matics. No additional supporting data is need-
ed.
Grades 1-3: English/Language Arts or Math-
ematics. Supporting data is needed.
Georgia Milestones End of Grade Assess-
ment- Grades 3-8: Students must score at the Dis-
tinguished Learner achievement level (4) for
English/Language Arts or Mathematics. Sup-
porting data is needed.
Grades Grades 10-12 -students must have an overall
cumulative average of 95 or greater. Supporting
data is needed.
II. Classroom Screening- Local schools select
a two-week period from January-February to
review all students in the school (Grades K-
11).
Classroom teachers use the Characteristics
Instrument for Screening Students (CISS) to
identify students with superior abilities in five
or more of the following areas: motivation,
interests, communications skills, problem-
solving abilities, memory, inquiry, insight,
reasoning, creativity, and humor.
III. Reported Referrals- All reported referrals
(parent, teacher and/or administrator) are com-
pleted through the two system- level screening
and referral processes each year. All referrals
are first reviewed by the local Eligibility
Team to consider if existing information
warrants a formal testing for eligibility. Students who meet either the automatic screen-
ing OR classroom screening criteria AND who
have supporting data gathered from test history,
products, and/or advanced content levels are
referred for gifted placement testing.
Once referred to testing:
Parents receive the Parent Notification for
Testing Consent Form.
Student is tested for the gifted program.
Parents receive test results.
If state eligibility is determined, students are
placed in the gifted program with parental con-
sent.
Parents may request to view their child’s
screening results. For more complete infor-
mation regarding Fulton County Schools Gifted
Services, please visit the Advanced Studies

The Roswell High School Marching Band
has been in full swing this summer preparing
for the fall season! The Percussion Ensemble
practiced twice weekly throughout the month
of June while the Color guard rehearsed three
times a week to perfect their routine. The
entire marching band then experienced two
weeks of band camp in early July, 12 hours
daily of intense music instruction and drills to
prepare for the 2018 marching show, “The
Dividing Line.” Week one was held at Ro-
swell High School and then week two was off
campus at Oxford College of Emory Univer-
sity in Oxford, GA. The Hornet Swarm per-
forms at all football games, marches in pa-
rades, and competes at several competitions
this fall. Check out our calendar at roswell-
band.com and follow us on Facebook
@RHSBand to stay informed of all RHS
Band activities.
The Roswell High School Band, consisting
of three classroom ensembles, The Hornet
Swarm Marching Band, the Roswell Percus-
sion Ensemble and the Roswell Winter guard,
is supported by the RHS Band Boosters Asso-
ciation and many local businesses. On Satur-
day, September 15th, we’ll be hosting our
Second Annual ExtravaBANDza featuring
food trucks, activities for the kids, raffles, and
of course, live music! Please mark your cal-
endar and plan to join us for this community
event!
The Roswell High School Chorus is proud
of their consistent superior ratings at Georgia
Music Educators Association (GMEA) LGPE
and regional choral competitions. Many of
the students also participate in oth-
er GMEA honor events such as District Honor
Chorus and All-State Chorus and GHSA Lit-
erary competition. There are four performing
ensembles at Roswell: Chamber Chorus,
Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Men's Chorale and
Women's Ensemble. Enrollment in Chamber
Chorus and Vocal Jazz Ensemble is available
by audition only. Chorus performances
throughout the year include the Variety Show,
a themed-based high-energy revue, in
addition to regular school concert
performances and other performances
throughout the community. This year
students will have the opportunity to compete
at Festival Disney in Orlando. The RHS
Musical Theatre Department, the combined
talents of the Choral and Theatre
Departments, is proud to participate in the
Shuler Award program each year with the
presentation of an annual spring musical, and
they are thrilled to have been one of three
high schools in the county to win an award in
2018! Auditions for the musical take place in
the fall. More information is available
at www.roswellchorus.com and on the
Facebook page, Roswell High School
Chorus.
The Roswell High School Orchestra is an
award winning high school orchestra that
went to Midwest Clinic in 2015, receives
Superior ratings (highest recognition) annual-
ly at LGPE, and has won several Mickeys at
Festival Disney. Its students have been mem-
bers of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orches-
tra, All National Orchestra, All State Orches-
tra (GA), and numerous other local youth
orchestra programs. The new Roswell Or-
chestra website is located at: http://
www.roswellorchestra.org. The 2018-2019
school year will be a trip year which is always
exciting for the students. We are in search of
parent volunteers to assist with the operations
of our orchestra so if you would like to help
please contact Sara White
The Roswell High School Theatre offers a
variety of opportunities for students to be
involved in Theatre, on stage and behind the
scenes. Each year there is a large scale pro-
duction, One Act Competition, Short Atten-
tion Span Theatre and more. Last year’s One
Act, The Miracle Worker, was invited to per-
form at Thescon, a tremendous honor. All
students are invited to join Theatre Troupe,
and those who meet the requirements may be
inducted into the International Thespian Soci-
ety.
Our Roswell High School Junior Reserve Of-
ficer Training Corps (JROTC) is proud of our
2017-18 accomplishments. The Roswell Hornet
Battalion finished its training year with 15 ca-
dets attending the JROTC Cadet Leadership
Camp at Riverside Military Academy. Through-
out the year, the cadets were challenged to study
leadership, ethics, citizenship, communications,
life skills and other subjects designed to prepare
young men and women to take their place in
adult society. On top of sending teams to the
state level drill competition, the program also
placed well enough to qualify at the National
Level with its leadership team. The program
works hard to tie the curriculum to community
involvement with the cadets providing more
than 3000 hours of community service in its
effort to build the citizens of tomorrow. Learn
more about our Hornet Battalion at http://

Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Fulton County Schools aims to engage students in cutting-edge, hands-on career exploration and
preparation opportunities that set them up to excel in postsecondary education and productive careers. CTE programs and pathways allow
students to apply math, science, and communication competencies in laboratory and occupational settings that develop specific technical
skills applicable in broad concentration areas. Curriculum incorporates Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) in all content areas.
Students are encouraged to pursue pathway completion, which entails taking a sequence of courses (minimum of three) in the same indus-
try cluster. Upon completion of a pathway, students are eligible to take an assessment leading to an industry recognized credential or certi-
fication (e.g., Microsoft Office Specialist, OSHA Certification, NCCER Core Certification). Participation in co-curricular student organiza-
tions (e.g. Skills USA, DECA and FBLA) and work-based learning enables students to leave high school with tangible marketable skills
and documentation of their capabilities, as well as greater understanding of the college and career paths related to their chosen industry.
Currently, Roswell High School offers Career Tech courses in the following eight industries:
Architectural Drawing and Design Food and Nutrition
Broadcast/Video Production JROTC – Army
Construction Personal Care Services – Cosmetology
Engineering and Technology Web and Digital Communications
Contact Career Tech Department Chair Lisa Funderburk for more information: [email protected]
As an added-bonus, RHS PTSA offers two scholarships specifically for seniors who have completed a CTE pathway!

first week of September. The team con-
sists of all doubles matches: two lines of
boys, two lines of girls, and one line of

team captains and boosters of the Ro-
swell Racquet Club and is a great way to
keep your skills sharp during the off-
season of high school tennis, or intro-

outs. Players practice on their own and
matches are Sundays at 1:30 pm. The
cost is $30 per player for USTA fees.

you do not have to be a current USTA
member. There will be a parent/ player
meeting on Tuesday, August 21at 5:00
pm. At the meeting we will see if we
have enough players for two teams, we
will ask for parent volunteers to run the

The RHS School Governance Council (SGC)
is proud of their most recent achievement –
finalizing the RHS Strategic Plan through
2022. Visit http://school.fultonschools.org/hs/
roswell/Pages/School-Governance-
Council.aspx. Scroll to RHS Strategic Plan
2022. The strategic plan includes four over-
arching objectives: student achievement, peo-
ple and culture, community collaboration, and
fiscal responsibility. Some initiatives are al-
ready underway, such as the creation of a
communications team to assist in communica-
tion and collaboration with our families and
surrounding community. This team has hit the
ground running by developing a communica-
tion framework for RHS. Other initiatives and
related activities are in progress.
SGC meetings are open to the public and par-
ents are welcome to attend. Meeting dates and
times, along with agendas and meeting
minutes, can be found on the school website.
http://school.fultonschools.org/hs/roswell/
Pages/School-Governance-Council.aspx At-
tending SGC meetings is a great way to hear
about the direction of the school. More im-
portantly, it is a valuable opportunity to identi-
fy those areas in which you can help and be an
active participant in that direction.
Fulton County Schools (FCS) became a Char-
ter System in 2012, and is the largest in Geor-
gia. Charter systems give schools the oppor-
tunity to support the needs of their students
and allows for flexibility from one-size-fits-all
state requirements. Roswell High School be-
gan the transition to a FCS Charter System
School in 2014 with the formation of our first
SGC.
The purpose of the SGC is to provide parents,
school staff, and community members with an
active leadership role in the management of
the school. The SGC operates under the con-
trol and management of the Board of Educa-
tion, and is responsible for making decisions
regarding the strategic direction of the school
including:
a.) Approve the schools strategic plan and
updates
b.) Approve the annual budget and annual
resource allocations
c.) Manage the Request for Flexibility Process
d.) Participate in hiring the principal (in the
case of a vacancy)
e.) Provide annual feedback on principal per-
formance

With August 6 right around
the corner, most of us are scram-
bling to fit in those last few
‘must-do’s’ of summer. While
preparing for our school sched-

you to consider adding these
things to your checklists and
calendars:
Support our amazing school

year is fast. Commit now to be-
ing intentional with your plans.
Roswell High is a successful

The Reflections 2018-2019 Theme is
“Heroes Around Me” Nationally and locally, PTSA has
supported the "Reflections" Pro-
gram for more than 40 years,
encouraging millions of students across the
nation and in American schools overseas to
explore their artistic talents. Roswell High
School's PTSA sponsored "Reflections" Pro-
gram offers students the opportunity to express
themselves for fun, recognition, and competi-
tion not only against other students at our
school, but at the regional, state and national
level. Students in grades 9 through 12 of ALL
abilities are being called on to submit works in
six categories:
This is a great opportunity for all of our stu-
dent body to build portfolios, resumes, win
prizes, and use their creativity!
Information on how to submit your work will
be publicized in the coming weeks. RHS Stu-
dents have gone on to compete at the state and
national level.

requires a few parents to help publicize the
event, organize the entries, submit winning
