Kayak Rentals There is nothing like exploring the Merrimack River by kayak. Our recreational kayaks are stable and easy to paddle. We rent single person & tandem recreational kayaks. Note: You will need to provide either a license or credit card as collateral to check out a kayak. The collateral will be returned once when the kayak is returned back to the Boathouse. The kayak rental rates are listed in the chart below. There is a general public rate and a discounted UMass Lowell rate (valid UMass Lowell ID required). ACA Level 1: Introduction toKayakingJune 12 & 14, 5-8 pm$100/person

This six-hour course is focused on helping students learn to travelsafely and efficiently by kayak of the types designated as sit on top,folding, inflatable and “recreational.” This program puts emphasis onproper paddling strokes and open water kayak rescue. We will alsolook at considerations for weather, environment, and equipment.Cost includes use of all equipment. This course is designed for adults,but children aged fourteen and up are welcome to participate with a parent.

Quick Start to Flatwater KayakingTwo days, 2-hour sessions$60/personQuickstart to Flatwater Kayaking is a 4-hour program that emphasizes safety, enjoyment andskill acquisition in “recreational” kayaks. Thisinstructional program’s introduction to safe andefficient paddling is also relevant for river andtouring/sea kayaking. This course is designed foradults, but children aged fourteen and up are welcome to participate with a parent.

UMass Lowell will be offering the following kayak activities andtours. All equipment and supplies included unless otherwise noted.

Water Sports FestivalSaturday, June 2, 9 am - 4 pmFreeThe Annual Paddling Festival is a day for the community to visit theUMass Lowell Boathouse and learn about our summer programs.People can also try our different kayaks. This will be free to thepublic. No registration is necessary and appropriate for all ages.Just show up at the Boathouse on June 4th! Note: Children participants must be accompanied by an adult to attend.

Free Kids Kayaking Clinics6-7 pmFreeThe Free Kids Kayaking Clinics are a chance for kidsin the community to come to the UMass LowellBoathouse and try kayaking for free. Parents will alsolearn about our Kayaking Kids Instructional Programalong with other summer kayaking programs. No registration necessary. Just show up at the Boathouse! Note: Children must be accompanied by an adult to attend.

Sunset Paddles7-9 pm$30 per personThe Sunset Paddle is just that! We will leave theUMass Lowell. Boathouse at 7 pm and explorethe Merrimack River. We will watch the sunsetover the river and then return to the boathouse.Please come fifteen minutes early if you wouldlike kayaking instruction. Appropriate for adultsand children.

Youth Quick Start to Flatwater KayakingJune 26 & 28, 6-8 pm$75/personYouth Quickstart to Flatwater Kayaking is a 4-hour program thatemphasizes safety, enjoyment and skill acquisition in “recreational”kayaks. This instructional program’s introduction to safe and efficientpaddling is also relevant for river and touring/sea kayaking. Gamesand team challenges will be incorporated into the curriculum. Appropriate for youth thirteen-sixteen years old.

Kayaking Kids Instructional ProgramThree days, 3-hour sessions$100/personThis program runs for nine hours over threedays and combines recreational kayakingskill development with adventure education initiatives for a truly unique experience.Participants will learn to overcome challenges individually through paddlingand as a team through our fun challenge games. Appropriate for kids ten—thirteen years old.

Full Moon Paddles9-11 pm$30 per personOur Full Moon Paddles are guided tours onthe Merrimack River using the light of thefull moon. Paddling by moonlight is a veryfun experience and something that you willremember forever. Please come fifteen minutes early if you would like kayakinginstruction. Appropriate for adults and children.

Fourth of July Fireworks TourJuly 48-10 pm$30 per personThere is nothing like watching the fireworks from the river. We will paddle out during sunset and find a good spot to viewthe fireworks. Whether you are a couple looking to get awayfrom the crowds or a family trying something new for thefourth, this tour is perfect for you! Appropriate for adults and children.

Custom Classes & Group ProgramsWe also offer custom guided group tours and classes. Thisoption allows you build a program that fits your needs. Choose the best dates and times that fit your schedule. Note: You need at least 10 people to create a custom tour or at least 6 people to run a custom class.
