Project ManagerElected as Project Manager responsible for the roll out of Ericsson’s new standardised Remote Access Solution (RAS) to all of Ericsson’s customers in the UK and Ireland. Responsible for all customer liaison, solution design, timescales, budget, delivery, documentation and handovers. Management of a team of Subject Matter Experts to address integration, security and customer support & handover issues. The ongoing success of this project formed a key component within the Market Unit to achieve local support accreditation within Ericsson. Customers included major operators such as Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, O2, BT, Cable & Wireless, etc.

Technical Architect Team LeaderLeadership of a team of 12 Core Network specialists assigned to deliver mobile core network solutions to key mobile operators. Responsible for line management, team dimensioning, project management activities, quality monitoring, budgetary controls and customer liaison.

Management, co-ordination and participation in the design of core packet backbone network for Vodafone’s GPRS service using Cisco routers and Ericsson ATM switches, Project value around £500,000.

Assigned exclusively to the Vodafone Mobile Networks Account. Operating in the capacity of customer interfacing, design and implementation of the Core infrastructure for the Vodafone GPRS network, primarily on the transport network layer involving blending IP and ATM to form a dual resilient backbone. Involved in co-ordination and management activities for the first early adopter trials. Production of all relevant support documentation such as Implementation Instructions and Customer Technical Documents. Vodafone’s GPRS Network was commercially launched in April 2001.

Pre-sales and implementation support for the design and validation of worldwide networking solutions, and value added services to specific clients whose bases of operation are in the UK. Prime role being ownership of all technical aspects relating to named accounts such as 3M, Enterprise Oil, Nycomed Amersham, G N Comtext . Account spends vary but typically lie in the range of £10m - £100m.

Redesign of G N Comtext worldwide network to transport significant legacy X25 based telex traffic over new Cisco and Nortel worldwide IP network.

Design Authority responsibility and implementation support for a regional network infrastructure for a major Metropolitan Borough Council using Xylan (Alacatel Internetworking) and Shiva products. Project value around £170,000.

Compilation of detailed, vendor-independent Invitation To Tender document on behalf of a major local government client involving a resilient Gigabit Ethernet backbone, with 10/100 Mb switched Ethernet to the desktop for around 600 ports. Inclusive of WAN infrastructure, plus all implementation, support, facilities management, maintenance and consultancy elements.

Established an internal IBM Token Ring Subject Matter Expert forum . This led to a successful £0.5m+ bid for an IBM Token Ring customer infrastructure project for PHH (Europe) plc.

Project Manager for Token Ring Switching Infrastructure project for PHH (Europe) plc (Part of Cendant Group) involving the deployment of multiple Xylan Omni-Switch chassis across various UK sites.

Design Authority responsibility and implementation support for a major national network for British Steel linking their Port Talbot site to approximately 120 customer sites using 3Com routers and Citrix Thin Client technology. Project value around £250,000.

Responsibility as technical ‘Product Champion’ and technical consultant for 3Com products within the Company, providing a source of specialised technical knowledge to the Memorex Telex (UK) Ltd technical and field staff. Role extended to include monitoring and input to senior management on 3Com policy, accreditation requirements and programs as required to retain and enhance current reseller Partnership status.

_________________________________________________Lancare (UK) Ltd 1992 – 1997

Seconded into Strategic Account Manager role within the Knowledge Group to restore and rebuild troubled internal Business Unit acting as approved supplier to Barclays National Programmes Project. Exercise involved re-structuring staff responsibilities, specifying and deploying software support system, training programs, extensive public relations exercise with customer representatives, canvassing support from other divisions within the Company and tight monitoring of turnover against costs. Business Unit was back on track within 6 months with customer credibility restored and the total business from the Barclays account for 1996/97 was around £2.5 million.

Responsible for winning status of Microsoft Solution Provider for the Knowledge Group and introducing internal procedures and methodologies to support the accreditation. Went on to

win status of CHEST SELECT 3 Approved Reseller for the supply of Microsoft applications and operating software products into academia. This led to first year Microsoft sales in excess of £0.75k.

Role as Senior Network Consultant involving network design activities to meet customer requirements, site survey visits, creation of proposal documents, bid management, customer network health checks, consultancy and training. Responsible for profitability in all cases.

Extensive tender response and bid management experience on network implementations typically up to the value of £500,000.

Project Management and Design Consultancy for the refurbishment of Barclays Bank new Offshore Trading Centre, Isle of Man.

Contribution to management policy on Company structures and internal procedures. Formative to the present internal and reporting structures within the Company.

Design of £500,000+ AT&T PDS Structured Cabling System & Token Ring network for PHH (Europe), Swindon Offices, 5000 voice/Token Ring data outlets plus Network Management.

Design of campus wide Ethernet network for Reading University Bulmershe Court site. Fibre and Thin Ethernet implementation. 11 active Ethernet Hub locations, 200 outlets.

Project Manager (with some design input) of Wide Area and Local Area Networks for Southampton Area Health Authority.

Project Manager for various Wide Area Network implementations within Wessex Regional Health Authority.

Membership of in-house committee (Dowty CASE) to specify and implement a computer-assisted post sales/Project Management support infrastructure.

Responsible for supporting five high-spend national accounts to promote sales of MegaStream based services. Achieved through delivery of consultancy to customer Communications and Data Processing professionals at CIO level on voice, data and integrated networks.

Product Manager for design and introduction of new Slimline Terminal handset range for Philips Key Systems. This subsequently became the new global design for introduction across international markets.

Produced two white papers on voice and data convergence.

Key participant in European collaboration on development of Philips Sopho-S voice key system. This enabled cost savings through joint collaborative design serving multiple European markets.

Product Management of Voice Switch and Handset instruments for Philips Herald/Pentara/KBX100 and Sopho-S voice Key Systems. Involved extensive European travel.
