Scope: This Project aims at developing an automatic assembly tooling which enables flexibility in
aero structure assemblies with as little human intervention as possible.
Tooling plays a key role in the manufacturing and assembly of aerostructures. It is widely
applied around the world to support the production of single components or large assemblies.
The development of flexible and cost-effective tooling to meet the aerospace requirements is
still a challenge. The main goal is to create a consortium to develop and implement projects
targeting cost-efficient flexible tooling for aerostructures manufacturing.

Coordenator:ANA MARIA RENÓ MINUCCI
Partnership:UNDER DEVELOPMENT
Opportunity/Priority:THE TRIPLE HELIX CONCEPT Main Contact:ANA MARIA RENÓ MINUCCI
Phone:(12) 3946-1500
Email:[email protected]
Extra Information:
The application of the triple helix concept (the chain of opportunities)
Scope: There is a potential “mid-market” between ships and aircrafts, the only two means of
transoceanic cargo transport. Aircrafts have speed with high cost and ships have low cost
with long transit time. The Flying Vidfamne concept addresses this gap in terms of speed
and cost. It is the blend of sea and air travel with operating efficiency (44% better than any
modern aircrafts) at speeds of up to 460 km/hour, while carrying 1270 tons of cargo which
is 5 times bigger than the biggest cargo airplane – The Russian-Ukranian – ANTONOV –
AN-225. It all thanks to the aerodynamic principle known as the “GROUND EFFECT”:
the compressed air (cushion) between the airplane´s wing and the ground. It can fly over
water, sand, snow and land. It will fly 6m up to 6000m high above the water surface. Low
cost of investment due to the already available technology, turboprop engines and
unpressurized payload. Also cheap maintenance infrastructure because it can use any naval
port or shore as bases of operation. An innovative technology waiting to be unleashed.

Extra Information:
Scope: This project adapts and develops solutions for Integrated Health Vehicle Health
Management and for Human Factor Analysis relevant to a digital future of Aeronautics. To
handle the increased complexity of aircraft systems, it seeks to develop systematic and
integrated approaches for fault diagnosis design and analysis while investigating
opportunities to make use of service data to expand service capabilities. Moreover, with
increased autonomy of aircraft, it also looks into the interaction between pilot and aircraft,
sensor technologies for operator assessment, training and certification. The project is
carried out with relevant industrial and academic partners in Sweden and Brazil and has a
long-term objective to establish a collaboration platform between the actors; a number of
activities such as joint workshops are dedicated towards this goal. The consortium presents
good complementarities and diversity in terms of industry segment (commercial/military
aviation) and research areas, leveraging the possibilities for impact and exchange of
knowledge and practices. Therefore, the overall objective of this project is to gather,
process and use the big amount data coming from executed flight to: 1. Enhance aircraft
fault diagnosis and anomaly detection capabilities; 2. Analyze the human factors related to
pilot´s performance. The adequate utilization of the big data available will (1) promote the
improvement of fault diagnosis and anomaly detection in the aircraft´ equipment and (2)
orientate the training process of pilots based upon their performance data. Both initiatives
sum up to render safer aeronautics systems.

Extra Information:
Scope: The development of the national defence industry is one of the main goals of the National
Defence Strategy because the country needs to achieve auto sufficiency in technologies,
products and services that are vital to the Defence sector and to its own economic
development. In order to reach this objective, the government needs to stimulate the
creation of innovation, the development of dual technologies, the improvement of
suppliers´ operational capabilities, and the participation of local companies in new national
and international markets. The procurement of new technologies by the Brazilian Armed
Forces, which involves the specification and joint development between the Forces and
their suppliers of new technologies, products and services, can certainly help in this sense.
However, while we understand relatively well how and why this type of procurement leads
to innovation in the supplier, we still need to know better how it can shape the
development of capabilities in the suppliers, especially when it comes to strongly regulated
economic sectors, like the defence industry. As such, in this project we explored how the
capabilities needed to enable suppliers to explore dual technologies in civil markets and to
export their new products and services are developed during the purchase os strategic
project by the Armed Forces. We were able to identify the capabilities developed and
whats prevents companies to further develop in the long run. Future research will be
focused on understanding how these barriers can be overcame.

Theme:ImprimeAí
Coordenator:ISI for Advanced Mterials
Partnership:None Opportunity/Priority:Development of new material for 3D Printing Main Contact:Gustavo Spina Phone:551143445093
Email:[email protected]
Extra Information:
Scope: The project’s mission is to make a product to print with 3D products using raw material
made of 100% recycled plastic. In Brazil, it notices that the plastic filaments used by 3D printers to manufacture the objects have a high cost and in their greatest majority are
imported. In this way, the development of recycled ABS to print 3D products was the main challenge. In the next steps the development of other recycled materials will be made.

Extra Information:
Scope: Today distributed integrated modular avionics (DIMA) leads to dynamic adaptive mixed
criticality real-time embedded systems, exploring the balance between performance/power
consumption. The project proposes a new DIMA framework with fault tolerant system
based on detection, diagnosing, and system reconfiguration. There are three research lines:
modeling of adaptivity concepts at a high level of abstraction; design and implementation
of a monitoring system; and accelerated electronic aging tests.

Partnership:KTH and SAAB Opportunity/Priority:Adaptive real-time embedded systems for avionic design Main Contact:Denis S. Loubach Phone:+55 12 3521-3404
Email:[email protected]
Extra Information:
Scope: This research project main goal is to develop a new real-time adaptive embedded system
framework supported by formal models of computation, where hardware adaptivity is
captured at a high level of abstraction. A secondary objective is that the developed
concepts and models shall be platform-independent, therefore possible to be implemented
in a number of different hardware platforms. However, the proof of concept adopts an
FPGA-based system on a chip, with no loss of generality.

Use of optimization, fem, in lab tests.
Scope: The main goal of this research is accomplish the optimum design of the wing structures
using genetic algorithm and FEM (finite elements method). The optimization process will
be feed by wind tunnel tests which will provide the main loads to be considered in the
structural model. The process will be interactive, since one optimum design is obtained, a
reduced scale model will be constructed and tested in the wind tunnel, so we return to the
optimization process and repeat until obtain the desirable design.
