1.SUMMARY In this experiment,heat transfer by free and forced convection is examined.The aims of this experiment are;to learn heat transfer kinds which natural and forced convection and observe the free and forced convection heat transfer in different surfaces which fin,pin and flat plate,at different speeds . Firstly,for fin,free convection is examined at 20W heater power and at different sections of surface.Secondly,forced convection was observed at 20W power and at different flow rates.In this part of the experiment,the surface temperature of fin’s four part was measured and it was found that ;when flow rate of air was increased,the surface temperature was decreased,and when the distance was increased,the surface temperature was decreased.In the other part, at diffrent power values ,temperature was measured and it was observed that when power was increased,surface temperature was increased.All of the measurement was done at steady state condition.The ambient air temperature was 20.8 °C. Secondly,all of the measurement for fin was repeated for pin.Firstly free convection is observed.Likewise the fin part,in forced convection of pin ,when flow rate was increasing,pin’s temperature was decreased and when distance was increased,the surface temperature was decreased.In this part,it was found that pin’s surface temperature was higher than fin.Finally,for flat plate,at different flow rates,surface temperature values were obtained. As a result,it was expected to find that,the efficiency and film coefficient values in fin must higher than pin because of its extended surface and it is expected to find that the least film coefficient value seen in flat plate because of its small heat transfer area.
