Sue has pure bred saluki dogs and I have pure bred Italian greyhounds. Salukis

are a sight hound weighing 20-30kg. They do like to run but mostly are a quiet family dog who loves a soft bed and a warm room.

I have pure bred Italian greyhounds which are also sight hounds but are very much smaller, infact only weigh 5-7kg and are around 33-38cm at the shoulder. They are very playfull and friendly little dogs.

Now that Sue and I have bought this property together we have 2 saluki entire bitches and 3 entire Italian greyhound bitches between us. The requirements of owning 5 entire bitches on our property means that we now have to apply for a planning permit as the council sees this as a change of use of the property.

Our dogs are first and foremost important family members to us. We adore them and want the best care we can give them. They are also show dogs and to be eligible to compete in the open show ring they must be kept as entire (not desexed) dogs. We are registered members of Dogs Victoria, which requires us to be responsible dog owners and occasional breeders of pure bred dogs, and to follow a strict code of ethics for the care of our dogs. As such we do not breed many puppies, in fact since 2011 we have only bred a yearly

average of 1.25 litters. This can be verified by Dogs Victoria field officer, Sylvia Power who has recently conducted an inspection of our property and dogs. Even though this is a proven fact the council still require us to register with them as breeders. We are hobbyists not a business. When we do decide to breed a litter of either pure bred salukis or pure bred Italian greyhounds we will only do so if we have people already wanting our puppies. They most often

go to other registered breeders or show enthusiasts who are on a waiting list before the pups are even conceived. One of the shire concerns is extra traffic caused by buyers wanting puppies. Our puppies mostly go interstate and therefore we deliver them to the airport when the pups are old enough to go to their new homes, therefore no traffic issues to be concerned about.

We have high and strong fencing to ensure our dogs are confined and they cannot see over the fencing, to prevent any barking at movement over the

fence, They are not left out in the yard after dark and as such are quiet at night. We have a high colourbond fence at the front of the property which also helps to reduce noise. The dogs do not bark constantly, however they will bark with excitement if visitors arrive. At these times we use the high colourbond yard so that the dogs cant see and wont continue barking.

We dean the day yards everyday and have installed a composting system to dispose of dog poo. There is no smell.

We both want to be responsible animal owners and will do our best to ensure that our dogs do not have any impact on our neighbours.

Excellentfacifities for the dogs, who didn't manage one bark when I arrived − I wasn't aware there were

any dogs there until Ms Perkins let me inside,when the dogs came to greet me − still not a bark.

The dogs five in the house a s part of the family, however have free access to excellent large grassed

yards with shade trees in each. The fencing of the outdoor runs is secure pool fencing and the exterior

fencing is solid to a height of I 500mm.
