• The Sea-Axe is an advanced hybrid non-intrusive tool

• Cassette built design for easy shipment & maintenance

• Based on Mass/Controlled Flow Excavation (MFE/CFE)

• Low pressure, High volume

• Instantaneous & controllable vertical water column fluidizes the

seabed at a velocity ˃10 meters per second

MFE/CFE system offers the following advantages over other dredging

techniques:

- No physical contact with the seabed or seabed assets

- No need to dispose of spoil

- Real-time sonar imaging of the work site and progress

- Continuously variable power

- Utilisation from small, economic vessels

- Effective on a wide range of substrates, including sand, rock dump and clays.

Overview - Sea Axe Controlled Flow Excavation System

Personnel

• JBS use experienced, competent, skilled operatives for all subsea excavation activities.

• During a 12 hour shift we utilize 1x Supervisor and 2x Technicians.

• Soil strength from 80 to 200kPa, ancillary jetting equipment and one additional technician per shift is added.

• Sea Axe can remain submerged in water for up to 72 hours and requires minimal maintenance.

• 100% spares/redundancy supplied in our DNV 2.7.1 control room/spares container.

Tidal – can operate when propeller is submerged and there is enough clearance between the nozzle and the product.

Various Exit Nozzle Diameters

• These are set prior to deployment according to the project. A large

nozzle is used for sand and softer materials. A smaller nozzle is

used for harder soils.

Ancillary Agitation Lances

• Built as standard and utilized for breaking cohesive surface

materials in up to 200kPa shear strength.

Added Controllability

• Our patented twin chamber body section reduces torque and

assists with stability which means the Sea Axe can direct the water

column more productively over the target.

Sea Axe is capable of:

• Removing harder materials

• Creating narrower trenches

• Reducing the number of pass’s to achieve client specification.

Soil Sample Analysis - Example

Soil density and soil strength are affected by the principal soil mechanics of particle size,

leading to cohesion and therefore shear strength. Particle sizes visible to the eye and larger

are categorised as sands or coarser sediments (e.g. gravel, cobbles etc.).

These particle sizes have less cohesion, except temporary cohesion through quick

deformation. The particle size affects settlement (sedimentation) velocity, where particle

sizes of approximately 0.2 mm or larger start to hamper jet trenching. Particle size not visible

to the eye are categorised as Silts and Clays, i.e. particle sizes of approximately 0.06 mm

and smaller.

These much smaller grain sizes infer much more friction and increase the shear strength of

the soil.

Sample Projects (1) of (2)

1. Exposing Access for Maersk Tyra

Client: Subsea 7 / I Tech Services and Maersk Oil and Gas

Location: Maersk Tyra Field, Offshore Denmark

Depth: 50m

Soils: Mixed medium strength sands and clay up to 3m depth below natural seabed. Pipelines buried 1.5m below natural seabed

Vessel; Rock dump vessel Pompeii

Scope of Work: The operational procedure was to assist the client to excavate areas over 8”, 12” & 26” gas pipelines and create safe access exposing the

Gas pipelines for diver access.

2. Post Trenching Cable Transitions for Nordergrunde Offshore Windfarm

Client: NSW

Location: Nordergrunde Wind Farm, Offshore Germany

Water Depth: 6m – 20m. Tidal

Soils: Mixed medium strength clay up to 3m depth below natural seabed with extremely hard cohesive materials from 3–5m at more than 70kPa

plus shear strength.

Vessel: MSV Pegasus

Scope of Work: The Operational procedure was to assist the client and to ascertain the position of cables transiting from 70m out from and up to the

Individual monopiles. Proof of cable lay and acceptable required protection depths of these cables were essential. In total there were 19

monopiles - 38 cables. Data recorded by Fugro and our own Sea-Axe multi beam information was combined to produce the final proven

survey report for client.

Sea MFE/CFE – What makes us Different ?

Stability, Accuracy, Power and Controllability - Sea Axe is the most powerful single prop available resulting in the ability to trench using less passes to reduce vessel time and increase project efficiency.

• Sea Axe uses a single impeller. The impeller is bottom mounted with the exit nozzle directly below. This allows Sea Axe to be deployed in both shallow and deep water - One tool for multiple applications.

• The JBS patented inner vortex chamber makes Sea Axe the most stable MFE/CFE unit available. Sea Axe directs the water column over the target area more accurately and can cut deeper in single passes. This removes the need for additional excavation runs resulting in less vessel time and increased operational efficiency.

• Sea Axe harnesses the seawater and controls the flow exiting the nozzle to cut the seabed materials. This is comparable to natural erosion rather than dumping large quantities of water which create lunar landscapes. Sea Axe provides a uniformed and controlled excavation area.

• Minimum deck space required for complete spread, 10 square mtrs. Environmental biodegradable oils for motive power. Highly motivated and competent personnel with years of excavation experience and a willingness to utilise client personnel to train as the Sea-Axe team thereby reducing overall cost.

• Can be operated with an ROV and in very shallow waters (2 meters).
