Engaging Early to Deliver Value

Operators are seeking novel and reliable concepts to overcome industry challenges such as complex reservoirs, cost, growth and schedule creep and to optimise capital expenditure of subsea projects.

Combining industry-leading design and engineering services, pipeline and riser technologies, and an extensive subsea installation track record, Granherne and Subsea 7 have formed an Alliance that is strategically positioned to collaborate on Concept, Pre-FEED and FEED Engineering for subsea oil and gas developments.

Through earlier engagement at the project definition phase, and by combining the extensive field monetisation and front-end planning capabilities of Granherne with the proven subsea solutions, technologies, and EPCI experience of Subsea 7, the Alliance can identify opportunities to reduce overall field development costs and ultimately deliver economically viable solutions, in line with client requirements.

Viable Solutions

Engaging Early to Deliver Value

The Alliance’s capabilities and expertise covers every stage of the project life cycle, from concept through to execution, and later, integrity management, field optimisation and decommissioning. The primary area that we look to create value for our clients is in the earliest stages of project planning, improving assurance of constructability of proposed subsea infrastructure solutions and mitigating risk. Early engagement of the construction and installation contractor can also significantly reduce overall project cost.

3

Adding value with Early Engagement through our Alliance:

■■ Coherent answers from one fully integrated team versus multiple contractors ■■ Introduction of impartial and proven subsea solutions to unlock projects and meet client requirements■■ More efficient and effective Front-End Loading■■ Greater level of project definition at time of authorisation■■ Advanced project planning, taking account of vessel, resource and facility availability ■■ Robust estimating and scheduling for Capital Expenditure■■ Earlier and more thorough risk identification and mitigation■■ More timely development of risk mitigation plans and assignments■■ Improved operability and maintenance analysis■■ Extensive subsea installation know-how, experience and track record

Engaging Early to Deliver Value

One, cohesive, integrated team developing solutions for your challenges at the earliest possible stage, will reduce the number of interfaces when compared against other unaligned and/or separated engineering and project execution teams.

Our Alliance bridges Granherne’s renowned unbiased and independent perspective with the technical experience and technological capabilities of Subsea 7. The Alliance strives to be a project enabler, lowering costs and streamlining schedules with the combination of theoretical and practical experience. Both companies have been active in the development of new subsea technologies, and seeing their transition from the “drawing board” to proven and effective solutions. The complementary nature of both Granherne and Subsea 7 competencies are seen in many areas, such as more efficient engineering of the interface between floating production facilities (Granherne) and their associated risers (Subsea 7). Other cross-competencies include Granherne’s extensive Flow Assurance engineering capabilities, with Subsea 7’s Pipe-In-Pipe, Direct Electrical Heating and Pipeline Bundle solutions.

Optimising a Large Deepwater SURF development: Nigeria

Subsea 7 performed optimisation work as part of the tender phase for a large deepwater greenfield development offshore Nigeria. The SURF scope comprised pipe-in-pipe production loops with riser base gas lift, a water injection network, a gas export line, Steel Catenary Risers for connection of flowlines to the spread-moored FPSO and umbilicals for field control. During the tender process, Subsea 7 was able to propose a global 30% reduction of the SURF cost.

This reduction was achieved by, amongst other initiatives, proposing an alternative field architecture (with merging and simplification of production loops), proposing an alternative for oil export line design, reviewing in detail the interfaces with FPSO and SPS scopes) and proposing merged end flowline structures into in-line structures. The cost optimisation process has been performed in close collaboration with the client, who reviewed the preliminary benefit evaluation of each idea, and made the selection for global field optimised architecture.

Enabling the New Frontier of Subsea Development: Gulf of Mexico

Granherne provided a substantial team of industry experts to the Integrated Project Team to assist with the engineering scope for the development a 20,000 psi-capable subsea system for oil and gas drilling and production. Granherne’s primary responsibility was to provide a Systems Engineering (SE) framework to manage and control the technology development process. Granherne also undertook in-depth study of High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) configurations to provide the engineering sensitivities and design parameters for the program.

The process was based on proven SE principles and included:

■■ Operational scenario development■■ Requirements management■■ Technology readiness assessment■■ Technology maturation planning■■ Interface management■■ Field Architecture■■ Safety and reliability calculations (SIL)■■ System requirements
