"Mobile Number Portability" means the facility which allows a subscriber of a mobile telephone service to retain his mobile telephone number when he moves OR

From one mobile telephone service provider to another, irrespective of the mobile technology

OR

From one mobile technology to another of the same mobile telephone service provider, within such limits as may be

permitted by the licensor

Introduction

Operator Portability:-From One Operator to another E.g BSNL to IDEA,AIRTEL to VODAPHONE and vice versa etc.

Location Portability:- From one location to another

Service Portability:- From one service to another e.g Prepaid to Postpaid.

Types Of MNP

Doner Operator:-The operator from whose network the suscriber is porting out.

Recipient Operator:-The operator who will be providing mobile service to the suscriber after porting.

NBDB:-Number portability data base (maintains portability and provides routing )
