Assembly Instructions

Tip assembly over and tighten fixture bolt with wrench hand-tight.

Note: See Special Tools Section (pages 10-11) for fixture bolt size.

Apply Loctite 243 to set screws of sand collar.

Thread set screws into sand collar. Make sure set screws do not stick out into ID of sand collar.

Place bracket on vertical build fixture.

Note: See Special Tool Section (pages 10-11) for fixture dimensions.

Bronze bearing pre-installed into motor bracket.

Inspect shaft straightness. Pump shaft must be straight to within 0.002” total indicator runout (TIR) when shaft is supported at each end. Shaft straightening should be done mechanically without using heat.Note: If shafts are cut to length be sure cut is square and chamfer end.

Shafts offered “cut to length” for standard stage counts and as double ended sections in lengths of 4’, 6’, 8’ and 10’.

Assembly Instructions

Install sand collar onto shaft and push over bracket bearing until seated.

Tighten sand collar set screws to 100-120 lb-in.

Install impeller onto shaft and position bottom against bracket/bowl. Slide collet onto shaft and position into impeller. A flat screw driver may be needed to spread collet while sliding.

Note: When using a mix of impeller trims, always start the sub turbine build with the largest impeller diameter, A-Trim, followed by the B-Trim, and ending with the C-Trim impellers.

Drive collet into impeller using the collet drive hammer. Collet will not drive flush. Continue to hammer collet until impeller is secure on sub turbine shaft.

Assembly Instructions

Slide bowl onto shaft and align cable guard indentions on the outside of 6” STS bowls.

Secure bowl with bowl bolts(Impact or torque wrench recommended).6x6: Torque bolts to 10-12 lb-ft. Stages 1 thru 9 will receive 8 bolts. The top of stage 9 and higher will receive 14 bolts.

Note: For 6” STS pumps longer than 13 stages, after installing the 10th bowl, use three .030” shims between the next set of bowls. As depicted in the picture. Tighten bowl bolts to make tight. After bowl is tight, install the impeller and collet. Next remove the shims and tighten the bowl down normally. Repeat procedure until all impellers are installed.

8x6 & 8x8: Torque bolts to 17-20 lb-ft. Stages 1 through 12 will receive 8 bolts. The top of stage 13 and higher will receive 16 bolts.

Repeat process from Step 7 thru 10 for all stages up to last bowl.

Do not install an impeller between last bowl and discharge bracket.

12

6” STS: Press top bearing into top bowl assembly.12

6

Assembly Instructions

Attach discharge with bolts as in steps 10-11. For 6” STS and 8” ST, ensure the cable guard holes on the discharge are lined up with the cable guard holes on the motor bracket.

Lift pump with proper support and lay down horizontal.

CAUTION: Prevent from rolling.

Remove fixture bolt from pump shaft. Use impact wrench as necessary.16

16

6” STS : Pump 6” STS discharge 1/4 full with Dow Corning 111 grease.

8” ST : Pump top bearing chamber 1/4 full with Dow Corning 111 grease.

Assembly Instructions

Place key on pump shaft as shown.17

17

Apply Loctite 243 to the motor coupling set screws. Install set screws so they are clear of the keyway.

Tighten set screws onto key.

Torque Values:6x6 and 8x6 = 50-60 lb-in.8x8 = 100-120 lb-in.

Assembly Instructions

6” STS - Install upthrust screw in discharge until contact is made with top of shaft and all downplay is taken up.

8” ST - Install upthrust bolt in discharge until contact is made with top of shaft and all downplay is taken up.

8” ST - Unscrew bolt and nut together until upthrust spacer can be installed between nut and discharge bearing housing.

6” STS - Spacer thickness = 0.221”8” ST - Spacer thickness = 0.250”

Note: An alternative procedure to using the spacer is to back out the 6” STS upthrust screw 2 1/4 turns or the 8” ST upthrust bolt 2 1/2 turns, then secure the position by tightening the lock nut.

Remove spacer and tighten lock nut against discharge, holding bolt constant with no rotation.
