Allegedly imaginary stories are often based on reality. And they are always marvellous.True to life, they beget a legend like the legendof Palmes d’Or, a sublime champagne bornfrom a woman’s whim and Nicolas Feuillatte’spassion. Recently unveiled by Nicolas in oneof those rare moments of confidence, the

legend magnifiesthe reality.

We are in the1950s. Nicolas is

still living in New York. Seductive and attrac-tive, he falls madly in love with a young operasinger with a promising future. From Paris toMilan and London to New York, he never mis-ses a concert, assiduously courting the youngartist. A rising star, she swims in luxury andglamour: Nicolas’ passion ignites.Inaccessible, the poetry had to be continuallymore astonishing: in her mind, the only accep-table proof of love was to accomplish a uniqueexploit.

It took more than 30 years, the hazards of lifeand another encounter before NicolasFeuillatte finally found the means to expressan ultimate homage to an unquenched love:the Champagne region and a special champa-gne. This would be the fulfilment of a wilddream, with all the energy and perseverancehe is renowned for.

He was going to create his exceptional Cuvéein the image of his Diva: extravagant, fantas-tic, sublime and unforgettable. A special bot-tle inspired him the same way the Diva wasinspired by black pearls. Rare and precious, inhis eyes these jewels were more original thandiamonds, bewitching with their lustre andmystery. The imprint of pearls on glass, in theimage of the souvenir of this love engraved inhis memory: a unique bottle was going to beborn. It took such a unique story to createsuch a different champagne bottle. The blen-ding of the greatest and best vintages quicklybore its fruit.

All that remained was to name this vintage. The sense of humour and derision won out.Who other than Nicolas Feuillatte himselfcould attribute the ultimate distinction 30years later: it was obvious that this honourwas golden, a Palmes d’Or.

e! ELEVEN YEARS OF A MAGNIFICENT CUVÉE

Maestro of a Cuvée born from the desireof a man in love, Nicolas Feuillatte createdPalmes d’Or for demanding consumersand exceptional amateurs. It is fullyexpressed through eleven memorablevintages that display an accomplishedknow-how always in quest of perfection.

PALMES D’OR ROSE VINTAGE 1999

PALMES D’OR ROSE VINTAGE 1997

PALMES D’OR ROSE VINTAGE 1996The most “Burgundy-like” of rosés

1996 was the first rosé vintage in a long, promising series. It bears the mark of the redsfrom Les Riceys, pinot noirs with characteristicaromas. Les Riceys is the farthest southeastchampagne vineyard in the Champagneappellation. This means it is the most“Burgundy-like” of Nicolas Feuillatte’s rosés.Its body comes from the Bouzy grapes. Here, red wine from the appellation is not addedduring the blending. The method known as“saignée” (Skin contact method) gives it aruby colour with overlapped reflections thatdistinguish the Palmes d’Or from all other rosé champagnes. The bubbles areall the more stunning, testifying to a remarkablevivacity. The mouth is full of flavours confir-ming a nose of red fruits with fleeting flashesof menthol. Its length and memory of gusta-tory emotions means it can go well with themost daring gourmet combinations.

A hardy autumn companion

Here the blend is shared 50/50 between LesRiceys and Bouzy. The latter’s presencegives this hardy rosé an obvious structureand a virile side that is so appreciated on anautumn table. From the first look, its coppery colour evokes autumn. The ballet ofbubbles suggests a “Starry night” concentratedin a glass. The initial citrus fruit fragrancesgive way to sustained hints of blackcurrants. With such a beginning, this rosé expresses aworthy vinosity without losing its especiallyappealing smoothness and softness. An easyto enjoy wine developed for the gourmet. Itis no surprise that top chefs appreciate it.

At the apogee of know-how

It breathes a superlative summer nose: hot likea magnificent season, sensual and voluptuous, racy and elegant. The adjectives jostle eachother in the tasters’ descriptions: the unexpec-ted result of a dream year. A selection of redfruits (raspberries, cherries, etc.) enchants thepalate and procures an indescribable pleasure. The perfect balance between the strong pinotnoirs from Bouzy and the subtly scented onesfrom Les Riceys is transcended by a well-controlled acidity. It is the ideal companionand ambassador of pure pleasure. This vintage propels this Palmes d’Or Roséamong the great expressive wines. It is no surprise that it has collected gold medals atwine tasting competitions.

Promises completely fulfilled

Starting with very nice chardonnays, from agenerally abundant and wonderfully balancedharvest, today this vintage offers interestingbuttery notes that are up to this vintage’spromise when it was released. One alreadyspoke of complexity dominated by aromas ofpastries! The nose is enchanting as soon asthe temperature rises. And the mouth ofhoney is velvety and smooth. It stands out byits texture reminiscent of marshmallowconfectionary. It is a wine that has achievedits fullness, recognisable by this hard to describe rancio. For those who like these fragrances and flavours, this wine is a must.

Fine and elegant with astonishingcomplexity

In 1995, everything suggested an exceptionalvintage. The chardonnay grape gave uncom-monly powerful wines dominated by citrusfruit aromas while the pinot noir grapes spiced up the fragrances and flavours of a wine destined for exceptional ageing: a prediction that has proven true.Even today, it still doesn’t open up immediately. The lower the service temperature, the longer the somewhat closed nose maintainsits suspense. Then, its astonishing com-plexity stands out: a palette of pastry aromaspunctuated by caramelised notes mixed withsurprising hints of liquorice. This gustatoryrichness creates an impression of lightsmoothness and elegant roundness that lingers in the mouth.

Contradictory but so charming

Ah, 1996! A year hailed in Champagne thatcaused a lot of ink to flow. There was amplealcohol content and acidity. The pinot noirgrapes provided a broad aromatic palette.Their strength, while providing a legitimatestructure, balanced the acidity of the chardonnays, which provided refinementand elegance. Everything was present to presage a long ageing period and a paradoxical maturity. The proof is the difference, still presenttoday, between an extremely mature noseand young mouth. This vintage is delightfullymysterious. It still exhibits acidity combined with freshness and elegance. It isstill developing balance. Consequently, itshould be cellared pending the recognisableolfactory and gustatory harmonies.

The exception of a great new wineRich with incredible freshness

Classed as an exceptional vintage as soon asit was launched on the market, it is still excep-tional. It surprises all tasters with its balanceand above all its incredible freshness. Its sur-prising, lightly buttered nose is matched by a remarkable fullness in the mouth. The citrus fruit aromas come forth as theywere on the first day of picking. The char-donnays, accounting for 60% of the blend(40% pinots noirs), will continue to movetowards exact parity with the pinots.

The first in a prestigious decadePleasant maturity and length intact

The Chouilly chardonnays stamped theirstyle on this grand vintage whose promisewas fully recognised in the tasting noteswhen it was released at the end of 1996.One spoke of a bright yellow colour withgreen hue. The very fine bubbles impartedaromas of white flowers. The pinot noir, contributing 40% of this blend, had done itswork. Today, the nectar’s bright golden colour catches the eye. The original floral hints andcitrus fruit mouth have evolved towards apleasant maturity with flavours of gingerbread. The length is intact. Here is a vintage thatwill be remembered as the first in a prodigiousdecade rich with excellent years.

A great champagne is revealedThe vintage gamble that paid off

Whether due to the three fabulous vintages(1988, 1989 and 1990) before it, the fact isthat few champagne houses dared make avintage champagne in 1991. Of course thebrilliant and amber colour has taken on aslightly golden hue but it hasn’t lost its initiallustre. And, if initially this vintage had a niceorange blossom scent mixed with a touch offresh fig, today the nose captures red fruitscents, given the equal amount of pinots andchardonnays in the blend. Those who bet on the vintage’s qualities werenot surprised that it turned out to be a greatchampagne. It has substance, yet remainsvery hardy in the mouth. Full-bodied, it holdsits own at the table.

Clearly a Diva

The visual image of the Palmes d’Orcampaign establishes a constant parallelbetween the bottle, the only and uniqueDiva, and its human incarnation, thesublime black model whose radiatingbeauty echoes Palmes d’Or’s beauty.

The exquisite material in the Palmes d’Orbottle shines with all its brilliance … likethe pearls on a black pearl necklace thatseem to spring out of the bottle’s verystructure.

It is a continual play between the Palmesd’Or bottle and the young woman, eachacting as a mirror for the other, eachhighlighting the other; a subtle game ofattraction and separation that gives thebrand a veritable personality. Palmesd’Or is a brand “on the move” that mixesaudacity, extravagance and absolute elegance.

In choosing a black model, Palmes d’Orcreated a total break with traditionalchampagne practices. An intent thatunderlines Palmes d’Or’s incomparableoriginality and personality.

PALMES D’OR VINTAGE 1997A divine surprise

The gift of a sublime month of Septemberwithout rain made up for a year full ofcontrast, thereby contradicting the mostpessimistic prognoses. In the end, thevintage owes its success to grapes withhigh sugar content and excellent averageacidity. Today this excellent year givesthis great wine a fullness that owes muchto the pinot noir grapes emboldened bythe elegance of the chardonnays. The eyeis gratified by a pale golden lustre and theballet of small, active bubbles. The danceof aromas, between the chardonnays’hints of citrus fruit and the pinots noirs’suggestion of a Vienna two-step, presagesa supple, round, buttery and long mouth.

Palmes d’Or is a blend of 40% chardonnay(Montgueux and three Grands Crus:Chouilly, Cramant, Mesnil) for eleganceand finesse and 60% pinot noir (fiveGrands Crus: Bouzy, Verzy, Verzenay,Ambonnay and Aÿ) for roundness andstructure.

PALMES D’OR ROSÉ VINTAGE2000A reflection of the house style

This vintage was hoped for. 2000 is a mythical date marking the end of amillennium. The capricious sun finishedby satisfying the winegrowers as theharvest revealed the round and powerfulpinot noirs that Nicolas Feuillatte is fondof, perfect for creating a great rosé. Thehouse style mirrors perfectly the methodknown as “saignée” (Skin contactmethod), which enchants the eye withits raspberry colour and overlappedsparkling reflections. The red fruit imposesits fragrances on the nose and in themouth while the acidity marks thepalate with a zest of English bonbon. A fine vinosity responds to this lusciousaromatic palette. Preferably for the dinnertable, this Palmes d’Or Rosé will honourit majestically.

Palmes d’Or Rosé is a blend of pinotsnoirs from Bouzy selected for theirstrength and pinot noirs from Les Riceyswith remarkable character and aromas. The Cellar Master’s art is expressedthrough the perfect mastery of themethod known as “rosé de saignée”(Skin contact method).

“Sublime is the excellence that hides atthe core of the smallest detail”.

For Palmes d’Or, each object intendedfor the service set has been designedwith the clear understanding that themost sumptuous of jewels is nothingwithout the setting that underlines itsmagnificence.Named “Black Pearl,” this Palmes d’Orline pays homage to the bottle whosecharacter is found on each item: thechampagne cooler and ice-bucket’s deepblack with coppery shimmers evokes thebottle’s beautiful antique tint; the facetsof the flute and the coupe are the exactreflection of the bottle’s exquisite material.

Evidence of Palmes d’Or’s elegance andglamour, the retro champagne coupeprovides grace and sensuality when tasting Palmes d’Or Rosé.
