• Identify the pattern: 101011 , 101011 , 101011

• Find the number of complete sets of pattern:

100 ÷ 6 = 16 R4

• Find the sum of 16 set of (101011) + Remainder (1010)

(16 x 4) + 2 = 64 + 2 = 66

Numbers and Algebra strand

Each of the three cards shown is printed with a different

whole number. The smallest number is 23. When these

numbers are added two at a time, the sums are 61, 71 and

86. What is the largest number on the cards?

__ + __ = 61

__ + __ = 71

__ + __ = 86

71 – 23 = 48

The largest number is 48.

Each of the three cards shown is printed with a different whole

number. The smallest number is 23. When these numbers are added

two at a time, the sums are 61, 71 and 86. What is the largest number

on the cards?

Mathematical reasoning:

23 is not used to get 86 because you

cannot get the biggest sum using the

smallest number

1. Transfer error

Example: 9 x $12 = $108

$100 ÷ 2 = $50

2. Wrong use of equal sign

Example: Mr Tan spent of his money.

He is left with $12.

Monitor the homework completion

* Get your child to present his / her work clearly and systematically

Encourage your child to have regular revision

* Attempt questions where corrections have been done

for previous mistakes

* Get the basic facts and formulae right

Build time management skills

* E.g. when doing a timed practice, get your child to complete

the practice within the given time

How parents can support their child

Underline or annotate important information in word problems.

Do not dwell too long on a question. Skip questions when unsure of the approach to solving them and return to complete them later on.

Attempt all questions.

Show all the Math equations and workings.

Check the accuracy of the calculations.
