DESIGN AND ANALYSIS

DRIL-QUIP ' S Research andDevelopment Department isequipped with a sophisticatedcomputer network. The SU-90Wellhead System componentshave been designed and modeledusing the most advanced computertechniques. Each wellhead

component has undergonerigorous engineering analysis andtesting. Prototypes of each systemcomponent have been extensivelytested to confirm that the product meets the design criteria.This underlines DRIL-QUIP ' S commitment to provide advancedtechnology in precision-crafted products for the oil industry.

 All DRIL-QUIP  SU Series UnitizedWellhead Systems are engineeredand designed in compliancewith API 6A guidelines whereapplicable, and can be supplied incompliance with European UnionExplosive Atmospheres Directive(ATEX) and EPS regulations.

The SU-90® Platform Wellhead System isavailable in a single or multiple BOP stackconfiguration. Casing heads are designed toprovide technical and operational flexibility

without sacrificing the pressure-containing orload-carrying capacity of the system.

The low pressure SU-90 Casing Head can be equipped with an adjustment ring foradjusting tension or height as required on theprimary conductor string.

The high-pressure wellhead can be landed,adjusted, locked and sealed inside thecasing head.

The low-pressure casing head is run on asimple drill pipe or full-bore installation tool

and can be supplied with customer-specifiedside outlets and top connections.

The high-pressure wellhead provides ameans of suspending and sealing multiplestrings of casing and tubing inside a singlewellhead using mandrel hangers.

The high-pressure SU-90 Wellhead isdesigned to land in either the low-pressurecasing head or on the primary conductorcasing. In both cases the wellhead can beadjusted for height or tension as required.Additionally, the high-pressure wellhead can

 be sealed in the casing head, if desired. Sideoutlets and top connections can be suppliedto meet customer specifications.

MANDREL TYPE 

CASING HANGERS

The SU-90 Unitized Wellhead Systems utilizemandrel type casing hangers. These casinghangers incorporate field-proven subsea tech-nology for landing, sealing and locking casinghangers to the wellhead without externalintervention. These operations are performedthrough the BOP stack.

NOMINAL BORE PROTECTORS 

AND WEAR BUSHINGS

The SU-90 Nominal Bore Protector and WearBushing protect the wellhead ID duringthe drilling operation. The Bore Protector isretained into the wellhead and starter headwith a friction bind O-ring seal. The WearBushing is locked down to the seal assemblywith 4 J-lugs mated to slots on the OD of theseal assembly torque nut.

SEAL ASSEMBLIES

The SU-90 Seal Assembly incorporates a metal-to-metal sealing system that was developed for,and field-proven in, DRIL-QUIP’S SS-15 SubseaWellhead System. Metal-to-metal seals locatedon the seal assembly ID and OD are drivenover a radial surface to energize the annulusseal. The sealing system is radially preloaded.Each seal assembly has two sealing systems forredundancy and to allow testing of the annulusseal from outside the casing head or wellhead.

The SU-90 Tubing Hanger can be installedon top of the production casing hangeror can be nested inside the productioncasing hanger. The SU-90 Tubing Hanger

accommodates either single-string or multi-string tubing completions.

The SU-90 Tubing Hanger Running Tool is a hydraulictool that can run the tubing hanger and annulus sealin a single trip. DRIL-QUIP can offer the tubing hangerrunning tool in a configuration that accommodates

either single-string or multi-string tubing completions.

SERIES DH, DHS, DM

AND DL GATE VALVES

The DRIL-QUIP series DH, DHS, DM, and DLGate Valves are bidirectional sealing gatevalves designed to offer maximum reliabilityfor extended service in the field. All DRIL-QUIP gate valves are manufactured in accordancewith API and ISO-9001 quality standards,and are available in four styles, all qualifiedto API 6A PR2:

FIRE-SAFE GATE VALVES –

MODELS 6FC AND 6FA FEATURES

• Designs meet standard API specifications

BONNET FEATURES

• The Valve is designedso the stem-to-bonnet

metal-to-metal backseatwill engage in a fire. Thisis to eliminate the pos-sibility of the packing

 burning out and creatinga new fuel source forthe fire. All other com-ponents are designed towithstand the half-hour

 burn and cooldownwithout leaking. Thepressurized valve mustnot show any significant

leakage during the test.

• The Metal-to-Metal DX® Bonnet Seal ispressure energized and will not leak dueto high temperatures.

• A Nut Shroud is added to protect the bonnet bolting from direct flame.

• A Eutectic Ring is positioned above the upper bearing face and will melt in the event of afire, or if the temperature exceeds 250°F. If thisoccurs, valve body pressure forces the stemupward and a metal-to-metal backseat seal is

engaged. This seal isolates the valve bore and body pressure from the stem packing.

• A Spring Cartridge is used to engage the stem’s backseat when the Eutectic Ring has meltedand there is no or low body pressure in thegate valve.

SIGNIFICANT DESIGN FEATURES

cooldown and one-time operation withoutsignificant leakage

features of our field-proven SU-90 or SU-702Unitized Wellhead Systems.

DRIL-QUIP’S Multi-Slot Wellhead Systemincludes double and triple well or producingzone completions. The Multi-Slot Wellhead isavailable in vertical or horizontal tree configu-rations and can accommodate stack valve or

 block valve tree designs.
