It gives you a good idea of the standard that is required at the KIT and pre- pares you for the challenges that you have to face at university later on. The first semster schedule is very intense and it is essential that you are able to motivate yourself to work as hard as you can. During the semester and for the exam preparation much support and study materials are provi- ded by the lecturers and the student office. Nevertheless you have to keep in mind that it is your own responsibility to succeed in your studies. The Carl Benz School is the place for stu- dents who are determined to do their best. If you are able to manage your studies here, then I believe that you will become a formi- dable and well-educated engineer. When I first arrived in Karlsruhe the German culture and language were a huge shock to me. I could neither speak nor understand any German and felt completely overwhelmed when somebody started talking to me. Now, after having spent a couple of months in my new home town , I know what to reply when someone greets me in German and after going through a lot of practice, I am finally able to order my food in a restaurant alone! Living in the International Department is fun and a truly amazing experience. You get to know many fellow students from different countries. Moreover, you can easily ask the seniors and your course mates for help, since most of them live in the student accommo- dation of the ID. The pre-semester which started in August was, in my opinion, not really difficult because the contents of the lectures are quite similar to my A-Level exams. My first semester is tough and challenging, but quite an exciting experience. Our weekly schedule is very tight and some of the sub- jects were, of course, new to me. However, after some time, everything became much easier and I am getting used to the wor- kload. The International Department is a very nice place to live and I get to know many inter- national people from different countries, not only from my batch. All in all, I think the Carl Benz School of Engineering is the right place to study Mechanical Enginee- ring. Student Testimonials Studying Mechanical Engineering in Germany International Department has a great sur- rounding where we can easily meet people from all over the country and the best thing is, they are all nice and friendly! The learning style here is very tough and challenging. But due to the difficulty itself, it makes me want to study hard and devote great deal of attention towards my studies. I believe we as students should have those desires to achieve what we want -in my case, to be a successful engineer. Of course, there is ups and downs during my studies here, but everything will be paid off in the future. As the saying goes, „Where there is a will, there is a way.“ Studying here in KIT has been a great jour- ney. My first year was wonderful and chal- lenging. It was not hard to adapt to the envi- ronment at the ID. Everyone is mostly helpful and friendly. You get to meet people from all over the world and socialize with all of them. In terms of studies, I would not say that it‘s all fun and games. Being involved and contributing in classes is the best way to go. Since it is different from what we are used to back home, I had to adapt to these changes in the first few months I was here. Living in ID is great because you get to live close to your friends and it enables you to study together frequently. It’s been more than a year now, since my enrollment at Carl Benz School. Throug- hout these times, I’ve gained a lot of knowledge in engineering, both in theory and also practice. Personally I think the studies here are really tough, but with determination and the help of the lecturers and tutors, that won’t be a problem at all. The study process here is really good. Besides lecture sessions, we have tutori- al classes which help us to improve our problem solving skills. What really gets my attention to come here is the intern- ships provided by this institute which gives students the opportunity to gain expo- sure and experience working life. More- over, I’m happy to be able to attend Ger- man classes here because I enjoy learning other languages besides Malay and English. I am proud of myself being part of the Carl Benz School and really enjoy studying here in Germany. Living in the International Depart- ment feels like home. The students are inter- national, very friendly and they are willing to help should any problem arise. I am able to learn about the different cultures and gain exposure. Moreover, internships are offered CBS is for people who love mechanical engineering and those who love challenges. Even though the subjects are very tough, with regular commitment and effort, they are really enjoyable. Studying in Germany gives me a very big opportunity to learn the German lan- guage and also the culture of Germany. I have also the chance to meet a lot of peo- ple from many different countries not only friends from Germany, also friends from Rus- sia, Turkey, India, China and many more. It‘s really enjoyable and great studying here. Even though it is sometimes very stressful, we can handle it well and meet with other students regularly and help each other. Brunei now needs more ‘high quality’ mechanical engineers to help develop and modernize the country. Hence Carl Benz School of Engineering is the best choice to study and explore all the different fields in mechanical engineering. I think that it is very good that the CBS offers internships. This gives us the opportunity to learn technical and mechanical skills. Living in Germany is both fun and challen- ging. At the ID I got to know people from different countries around the world. They are more friendly than expected. Living in ID always feels like home as we always work together, eat together like a family, and spend time together on special occasions like New Years Eve or birthdays. The pre-semester was rather easy as the syllabus contents were almost the same as A-levels, but I had a long holiday before I came here and didn’t study for nine months. I found it hard to remember what I had learnt, yet I got through it! I can still cope with the first semester, but hard work is really needed despite the lectures and notes given. Textbooks are mostly in German, which make things more challenging. Nevertheless, the colloquiums and tutorials we have every week help us in understan- ding the subjects. Apart from that, lecturers and friends, including the seniors, are also very helpful. In spite of this, I’m sure all the hard work will be paid off in the future and I’m really grateful that I chose to come here in the first place! The pre-semester was a big shock for me, - we had class tests almost every week which do help a lot in preparing for the exams.
