1. How to access the course material First check that the computer you are using has all the software required. To do this click on "Technical information".

This will open a window which will indicate if you need to download or activate anything:

access codes in the login section and click on the login button.

2. How to move around the course material When you log in to the course material, you will see your welcome page. Here you will see how to access the General English course.

To go into a unit of the course, click on the unit.





You will see the first page of the unit and the navigation column on the left.

In the navigation column you will see the 13 sections of the unit. Click on the section name of the section you want to enter e.g. Reading





The reading section will open and you will see that each exercise is on a different page. To change from one exercise to another, you need to click on the numbers you see at the top of each page.

Once you have finished the unit, you can continue with the next unit by clicking on the home link.

To finish a session, click on “log out”.

On the homepage you can view your progress in graphic representation. For more detailed information click on “Breakdown of these scores”.

Text to Speech

The Text to Speech tool allows you to listen to any text you write into the text box.





Record yourself

Dictionary

Grammar reference The Grammar reference opens up a level-specific Grammar Reference which you can use at any time.

Additional Resources

On each page of the course you have access to the "Record yourself" tool, which allows you to record yourself and save these files. This tool is designed to help you to improve your pronunciation. You can listen to yourself and compare your recording to the original.

The dictionary is an online dictionary which allows you to translate words from English to other languages on the list.

Interactive English

Forums

Interactive English is a monthly Net Languages publication available at three levels: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. Each issue contains an interesting news text, vocabulary and language exercises, and discussion tasks. You can listen to native speakers talking about the topic (also available as a podcast), and you can access previous issues. Interactive English is mobile friendly and available as an app for Android and IOS smartphones.

In "Additional Resources" you can find links to useful listening and video material as well as online reading material suitable for language learners.





The forums can be accessed by the links in Extras or the Forum and Netsearch sections of the General English course. Click on the corresponding level to enter in the level specific forums.

Here you can see different messages and tasks posted by different students studying the same level. If you click on a message, you can read it and reply to it if you like. To post a new message, click on NEWTOPIC.

If you are posting a task for a specific unit, click on the unit number e.g. unit 7. If not, click on General.





Pronunciation

The "Pronunciation" link opens up the phonemic chart. You can click on each phoneme to hear the sound of the phoneme in isolation as well as in a word.

In the section Username, write your name, in Subject, write the topic of your message, in Confirmation code, write what you can see in the picture (this is to prevent Spam from entering the forums). Write your message in the large window and when you have finished, click on Submit to post it.
