Ajzen and Fishbein k (I 980) Theoi?, of Reasoned Action was used as the basis .for this stud?: The theorjq posits that the immediate determinant of behavior is intention. Intention is deiermined bjj the weighted attitude to- ward the behavior- and the weighted subjective norm. Combinations of beliefs, evaluations, and moti- vation to complj 3 determine attitude and subjective norm towards behavior: Salient beliefi related to attitudt. tofiiards both private and public institutions of higher learning and salient beliefs related to the subjective norm .for- both private and public higher learning institutions were identified. The sample consisted of I32 students whose age ranges.fronz I6years to 24years. Hypotheses generated in accord- ance to the theon1 were conjirmed. The.findings also showed that attitude toward behavior and subjec- tive norm e.xplairied 75% of the variance in behavioral intentionjw both private and public. institutions of highei- learning. Attitude toward behavior had a greater relative weight (p = 0.539) compared to the subjective norm @ = 0.401)=for both private and public higher learning institutions. Implications of the above findings are discussed. Teori Tindakan Beralasan oleh Ajzen dan Fishbein (I 980) digunakarz sebagai asas kajian ini. Teori iizi rnencadangkan penentu paling hampir kepada gelagat ialalz niat. Niat ditentukan oleh sikap terhadap gelagat dan izorma subjektif yang dipertimbangkaii. Gabungan keperca-vaan, penilaian, darz motivasi untuk mengikut menentukaiz sikap dari norma subjektif terhadap gelagat. Kepercayan vang kuat berkaitan sikap serta kepercawvaii yang kitat berkaitan dengan norma subjehvifterhadap kedua-dua institusi pengajian tiizggi swasta dan awani telah dikenal pasti. SampeI kajian terdiri daripada 132 pelajar Berumur- antara 16 tahun sehingga 24 tahun. Hipotesis yang dihasilkan berdasarkan teori telah berja,va dibuktikan. Penemuan kajian nienunjukkan sikap terhadap gelagat dari norma subjektif menjcdaskan 75% daripada variasi dalam iziat gelagat iintuk kedua-dua institusi pengajian tinggi swasta daiz awam. Sikap terhadap gelagat nienipunyai pemberatan relatif ?tang lebih besar (p = 0.539) bet-banding dengarz norma subjektif (p = 0.401) bagi kedua-dua iizstitusipengajian tinggi swasta dan awarn. Implikasipenemuarz dibincangkaiz.
